[X] We're your friends, and no matter what we'll stick beside you.

We should be able to back this up

[X] Abstain.

We keep going from crisis to crisis, barely getting a chance to breathe. We get caught up in tactical concerns (which are understood as critical life-and-death choices) and we scarcely have time for the strategic, which is fine right up until we find out we should have also been considering the strategic.

Then we get told we should play "Guess What I'm Thinking Based On The Needle I Hid In The Haystack Of Details", and if there is one thing I loathe beyond words, beyond rationality, it is a Guess What I'm Thinking game.

Anybody with eyeballs and reading skills can tell that IB is an outstanding writer, and anyone who can point me to stories he's written that aren't this or Hatchling Quest will get an internet cookie. Quests, though, I'm becoming increasingly more skeptical about.

Except it isn't, because if you read through the thread the votes explicitly a "What do you guys think is the best way to approach this issue" because as I said repeatedly there are no right answers, and definitely no wrong answers. As people have realized, it's what you guys think you can commit too.

Absolutely nothing has been a strategic concern. It is entirely a case of me going "Guys, I kinda dropped who three of the sages are." Zelda's issues are really me going, "hey, there's a lot of stuff going on in updates. If you look closely back you'll see how this was coming to pass. But there's also a whole lot more you all missed."

Nothing has been about "oh you fucked up" but entirely a case of "From here on in, there's going to be a lot happening in updates. Be prepared to really pay attention to them, even if they're irrelevant to the current vote"

Considering the amount of times the GM said to discuss the updates and the fact the story kept pointing out Zelda's fragile mental state it's not any surprise that Zelda would have a breakdown.

It's also unlikely we would have had any real chance to fix this similar to our situation now; this is going to be an ongoing issue with Zelda and there is going to be no easy fix.

Concern addressed. So is someone other than me gonna start taking notes, or am I going to have to go back to doing it?

Because y'all in trouble if I'm the only one taking notes.

[X] You can get through this, you're so much stronger than you think you are.

For me, it's really down to this one or the "friends" one. We went with "friends" the last time this came up, and it's helped, but I'd like to also say this.

Oh no, you don't have to go that extreme. Just want a little more discussion. You'll probably see what I mean in the next update of things I want a discussion on.

Though... you might feel the need when something happens in the future. But that isn't going to be for awhile unless we really speed through stuff.

Even when you just wrote that Link was fairly well aware of the issue at hand. You purposefully force us to choose between pushing Zelda to be whom she just got through saying she doesn't want to be, by either putting unrealistic expectations "you're strong, you can do it" or "We believe in you, you can being the Queen!", or even "Even if you're being selfish by wanting to be your own person, I'll still be your friend." Then we have the other options of blatantly ignoring the issue with "Anyone willing to throw their own life away to help others that are suffering can't possibly be selfish, except they are, by committing suicide, when we need you to re-take your throne." or "You can do it, there's no issue too important as to let it control your life! You can just power on through, and fight to reclaim your birth right!"

And only these, options, despite the fact that Link recognized at minimum some of the issue being that she doesn't want the responsibility that comes with reclaiming her throne. And doing the sensible thing like telling her that "Wanting to figure out who you are for yourself, isn't being selfish. Not wanting your friends, your loved ones, to fight, or die, for you, isn't being selfish. Even being righteously furious on behalf of those that suffer under the Empire, isn't being selfish. Those that would push you into doing, into being something, someone, you don't want to be. They are being selfish. Others that tell you not to worry about their sacrifice for you, or your heritage, and insist on you being safe while they risk themselves, they are being selfish. This expectation to be whom you aren't, isn't right. Wanting to be yourself is normal. Whatever your choice however; I'll remain at your side. As long as you'd have me. *smug smirk* And maybe even when you don't want me to stay there either."

But nope, apparently, despite realizing that she doesn't like these heavy expectations, your Link can't social because his intellect is somewhere between a goldfish, and a domesticated canine. And the way you worded it about how we didn't do anything about Zelda's issues before now, makes it sound like you're penalizing us for not feeling like picking apart each sentence in your prior posts. Regardless of if that is what you meant or not, that is how you came across as meaning. Review... selling... is something for fan fiction; not quest managing. If you're going to continue limiting choices because of people not randomly writing theses about your story posts, please let me know now, so I can unwatch the thread and not invest more personal time into watching a train wreck in slow motion.

Except none of the votes are like that, you're making an assumption that all the votes are "you should be queen" when Link hasn't made any indication he wants to push Zelda in that direction.

Write-in's are disallowed to prevent bandwagoning, as well as stop a thousand variations of votes, and to prevent people from being intimidated from participating as is what happens when these come up. I also don't want a PMAS scenario of absolutely gigantic votes that people think are necessary. I would like to clarify I'm not asking for PMAS or other long-running quests assumptions of player involvement, where the gigantic analysis posts are the norm. Just a bit more player involvement every now and then.

:eyebrow:... okay. Fair enough.

:???::wtf: Hrm, must be my own shit social, because I seem to be reading a different conversation than you are. Zelda just got through saying she doesn't want to be queen. So, unless you're just utterly shit at summarizing the context of a response, those responses are pretty much the less verbose way of saying what I just ranted. Irrespective of if that's what Link meant at all, it is what Zelda is going to hear.

So, unless you're purposefully setting up the misunderstanding between Zelda and Link, and possibly Mipha, that would be my biggest gripe. That expectation of magic translation getting through to Zelda. Whom is depressed, and boarder line considering suicide in her current state. Those of us that have reached that state before would recognize the symptoms. She's not looking for someone to tell her she can do it. She's looking for someone to tell her she matters. Not as the princess, but as Zelda. And what with each of these options seemingly either dismissing the issue altogether, or telling her to buckle down and give it her best; yeah, I'm a little disappoint. (not a typo)

If you want more discussion, I'd suggest implementing 8-12 hour voting moratoriums, maybe even 24-48 hour ones if you just wrote an 8k+ update and you want people to pick it apart. The nature of instant-open polls means that there is a real first-mover advantage for votes, so naturally people who care about the vote will pour a bunch of effort into piling on the vote first, which means you lose a lot of the rest of the discussion in the rush.

Also, it's important to close the polls after a certain amount of time, preferably before interest completely dies off. Closing the polls, rather than letting interest die off, leaves players with more incentive to talk about stuff not directly related to voting issues, which also encourages people to pick apart other parts of the story.
