[X] Plan: GIVE! HIM! BACK!
-[X] Use the arrows of light on the Octos weak-spots and injuries.
--[X] Aim for the deepest cuts on the Octo's tentacles.
--[X] When either bow or arrows run out use infused daggers as projectiles.
-[X] Keep Mobile; no matter how pissed you are a boulder or tentacle is still going to hurt if it hits you.
--[X] use hearty Elixir if you do get hit.
You leap into action quite literally, enhancing your movement with magic to propel yourself around the arena, bouncing off the arena's architecture. The Octorok, now recovered from your attack, looked absolutely furious and it raised its tentacles up to bring them crashing down onto anyone unable to get away. This included the tentacles the others had damaged, rage making it ignore the pain. Pumping as much magic as you can into your legs you rocket into the air, then twist to bring your bow up, an arrow already nocked and drawn back. You pour power into it, along with all your prayers that this would hurt it and bring you one step closer to saving Link and the arrow begins to glow, as bright as the dawn itself.
You release, and a shooting star flys through the air and impacts one of the damaged tentacles, engulfing it in holy power. The damaged tentacle isn't destroyed so much as completely vaporized, vanishing before your eyes in a burst of golden light. The Big Octo howls in pain, its foul blood pouring from the stump that was all that was left of the tentacle. You land with a roll, immediately leaping away again when you get to your feet as the octo begins flailing after you, trying to crush you with its many tentacles. Mipha and Undyne dive for cover, but Mipha was taking risks, running out of cover when it became safe for a moment to slash at whatever was closest, tears streaming down her cheeks.
You can't focus on her now though, dodging the tree sized limbs slamming down around you. All you could do was wait for the Big Octo to... there! It had raised its injured tentacle to bring down on you and you jump up onto a teetering pillar to take aim and then release, recoiling as you are nearly blinded. You aren't sure what happened though, as your bow seems to explode into motes of light just as the arrow leaves your hand. The arrow, however, wasn't affected by in the slightest, golden light filling the arena as another arrow strikes out and detonates, utterly annihilating the tentacle. You can't help but feel a hint of triumph at the sight, and how badly it was bleeding. Soon, soon it will bleed out and you will cut Link and Sidon from its belly. They have to be alive. You can't lose him, not again. Please not again-
GRRRHK?!
You're flying through the air at incredible speed, blood exploding from your mouth as your rib cage fragments into your lungs. The pain is unbelievable, and you numbly realize that a tentacle had hit you in the chest and sent you flying. You're still conscious though, and you gather what magic you can to catch you before you impact the wall. You still hit it hard though, your head ringing from the impact. You can feel a sticky wetness spreading from your chest. The edges of your vision begin to go dark, but you cling to consciousness, screaming in your head to stay awake. You won't die here, you won't die to a giant Octopus when the others need your help. You REFUSE.
You hand numbly tries to find the hearty Elixir at your belt, and once your fingers brush against the bottle you grab hold and bring it to your mouth, ripping the cork out and pouring it in. You aren't sure if it's from the adrenalin or the fact there was plenty of open wounds for it to get into your blood stream but in moments you can breathe and move again, and you bend over coughing and hacking up blood, taking another few moments before you can stand.
You stumble out, drawing a dagger from the many you've collected. The Big Octo seems to notice you, the sickly yellow glow from its glare washing over you. You don't waste a second, letting power flow into the dagger before throwing it straight at the monsters eye. A howl nearly deafens you as it stumbles back, a solid chunk of its eye simply vanishing in a flash of light. You can't help but grin, even without a bow this new power is why is the ground rushing to meet you?
Your arm catches you so you don't break your nose, but once on the ground, you find it impossible to move. DId your injury not get healed? No, it feels like your whole body is weighed down, like you've been running non-stop for days. But why would it... Oh no. Your new power, using it too much exhausts you!
You only have enough strength to raise your head enough to see the Big Octo recover, blinded in one but still capable of killing you.
This was it.
You were wrong,
again. You can't save anyone, you can't do anything without hurting someone.
You're never going to see Paya again, or Mipha... You'll never see Link again.
The hopes of so many are going to die with you.
Maybe that'll give you peace, they'd probably be better off that way-
Wait, why wasn't the Big Octo attacking?
You dimly look up, blonde hair nearly obscuring your vision, only to see the glow had completely vanished from Big Octo's undamaged eye. The whole thing seemed to be deflating and twitching, collapsing in on itself like a poorly constructed tent or well, more literally a balloon that was losing air.
It... It was dead?! But how? Did it just suddenly have a heart attack?
Then you see it, a part of its flesh that looked like something sharp was trying to force its way through the Big Octo's flesh from the inside. After a moment with a gush of black blood the head of a trident erupts from its hide, followed by a massive Zora arm. Then a head, followed by an upper torso. Then a blade that was broken in half, with a very familiar arm attached to it. It stabbed and sawed at the flesh, opening the hole wider and wider so a Green capped head could poke through, gasping for air. This seemed to have been a bad idea, as the two begin to struggle, looking distressed as they appear to have gotten stuck. Their struggling proves too much for the weakened flesh, and the wound tears open and the two fall out of the corpse into the water with cries of alarm.
Mipha and Undyne dive into the water, quickly grabbing the two and dragging them back onto dry land. Undyne with Prince Sidon and Mipha with Link.
Link's alive!!
++++
You are Link, and you're trying to desperately get the taste of Octorok blood out of your mouth. Getting sucked into a Big Octo's stomach had been a nauseating experience, probably worse for Sidon as he was trying to get Big Octo blood out of his gills. Mipha was fretting over both of you, while Undyne was berating Sidon.
"You stabbed your way out of the Big Octo's stomach WITHOUT INCLUDING ME?! That should have been our first plan!! I looked like a total IDIOT running around!! GAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!"
"Now Undyne, we should be thanking our new friends in helping us slay such a fearsome monster! A top-tier expression of gratitude is in order!!" Sidon replies.
Undyne chuckles, folding her arms across her chest. "Yeah, you kids did pretty alright back there. You might even be Zora guard good!"
"ZO! ZO! RA! RA! RA!" The two elder Zora cheer, Mipha looking a bit bashful about her sibling's actions, "To a wondrous victory!!"
Sidon suddenly looks around, looking a bit concerned, "Ah, but where is the Princess- Ah, there you are! Come! Join us in celebrating!!"
You look up, and sure enough, Zelda was there looking utterly exhausted. She was also covered in blood, and you feel a pang of worry,
"Hey, you okay? You're covered in blood-" You stop when you see her face, she was crying, "Zelda-OOF!!"
You're tackled by the small girl, who wraps her arms around with a sob.
"P-please don't l-leave." She cries, "P-please. N-not again..."
"Zelda..."
+++++
It took quite a while for Zelda to stop crying, so the others had gathered all your belongings and began searching for the best font of sacred power for Mipha to draw on. The Zora weren't entirely sure how to react to Zelda, so they were generally acted like they were walking on eggshells around her. Mipha seemed to want to stay with Zelda, find out what was wrong but her duty prevented her from lingering, which meant you were left alone with her. Unsure yourself, you couldn't help but feel you were all handling this the wrong way, as Zelda when she had composed herself looked absolutely ashamed she had broken down, sitting by herself and staring at the floor. You'd both had gotten cleaned up from all the blood you were covered in, Zelda was wearing a white underdress while you had changed into warmer clothes as falling into the water repeatedly had left you feeling quite chilly.
So you sat with her, for what felt like hours. You kept expecting Zelda to say something, anything. Maybe pull out her Sheikah slate, writing up notes about the architecture or something. But she just sat there, staring at the ground. Finally frustrated at being able to do nothing you clap your hands against your knees and stand up, turning to Zelda you respond in the most jovial tone you can, "Hey, this it huh? You're going to get healed any moment from now! We should celebrate afterward, I'm sure with all the rupees and gems we can flag down a merchant and buy some really high-quality stuff. I could probably cook up something everyone would like-"
"I don't deserve it..." Was her quiet reply.
You're actually taken aback by that response, "Zelda, why would you say that? No one deserves to have the injuries you've suffered. What's wrong?"
"What's wrong is that you're all bothering with someone who's a selfish fool!!" She snaps at you, before Zelda's expression changes to a horrified one as she realizes what she said, and she curls up clutching her mouth.
"Zelda, what are you talking about?"
She takes a deep shuddering breath, visibly trying to work up the nerve to speak before saying, "L-last night.... Last night I was thinking about today a-and what would happen if we succeeded. And I... And started to become scared."
Your eyes widen as you realize something, last night Zelda was having a panic attack and you mistook it for her being cold and fell asleep! No wonder she looked so tired when you woke up, she probably didn't sleep all night.
"I.... I was scared what would happen if I got healed. A-all the trouble I might cause. So I... I started to give a horrible idea some thought." Zelda's arms wrap around her, fingers painfully digging into her flesh.
"I thought, 'what if I don't get healed', I could.... I could keep being Sheik, and not Princess Zelda. Nobody expects a Princess to be scarred. I could keep traveling with you, and no one would be wiser!!"
She finally looks at you, tears following from her eyes, her expression one of pure terror, "No one would want me t-to lead an army and get people killed. No one would want me to be pampered wh-while others suffer. No one would expect me to save anyone w-when I can't even stop my friends from getting hurt. I'd... I'd just be Sheik..."
"But I realized something!" She states, standing up, smiling even as tears were still falling, "Only a completely horrible person would ever think who they are is determined by their looks. I-I can't change who I am just by changing my appearance, that's ridiculous! I mean, what kind of selfish monster wants to run away from it all when her subjects are being enslaved or killed!? When people like Mipha are trying to survive on scraps?!"
She pauses, taking a few deep breaths as she looks over herself, "I.... I realized I hate myself. Everything I've ever done has been wrong, I.... I should be just like the Elders say, I should-EEK!!" She shouts as you suddenly grab her, wrapping her in a tight hug.
"Zelda..."
Her demeanor breaks, and once again she's sobbing into your shoulder, "What's... What's wrong with me Link?W-why a-am I always like this? All... All I ever do is cry. I can't... I can't..."
Zelda... Zelda was not well. And you were not the only one who realized this, as you could see Mipha pressed up against a door, hands over her mouth and looking absolutely horrified and worried. You doubt she resented Zelda for all the things she had said, realizing the truth of the matter.
You should have paid more attention to what Zelda has been saying, should have been more concerned about it. Zelda had told you how she wasn't even sure if she was sane anymore, and made it clear how much she resented the myth built up around her. But there was still so much more you didn't know about her, and probably won't find out unless you headed to Kakariko village. You did know a lot of her self-hatred was unfounded. She truly didn't want people to suffer, no one who was so ready to throw herself into battle to free those slaves wouldn't be. Thus her being against a rebellion or anything of what people wanted her to do made perfect sense.
The fact she was so distressed now, you realize, was because she didn't want anyone to get hurt for her. But had this been for someone else's sake, you knew she wouldn't hesitate to leap to their aid. In fact, didn't she want to become a teacher because the children in her village had no one to help them learn?
You suppose your appearance hadn't helped either if you had to guess from what she had said before. Zelda reuniting with you had probably brought up tons of very painful memories. Didn't Zelda herself say she had completely fallen apart after she had fled the castle? It also sounded like she was pushed even in that village to become the very figure of that myth, never given a chance to heal from that horrible experience. Given the incredibly arduous experiences the two of you have endured on your journey so far, you probably wouldn't be doing much better in her circumstances.
You need to tell her something. You can't help her heal from what she went through with one talk, but you can at least try to aid her. But what do you say?
Write-in's disallowed. Think carefully before you pick and only pick ONE!
This is a very important vote and will have long term effects.
