Winter is Coming: House Stark Quest

Politically, trying to ally with Dorne (those dragon lovers) could win us the South and hopefully provide some protection from pro-Targarean conspiracies.

On the other hand, three's no way someone from Dorne wouldn't treat the North as a frozen hell and we'd probably have to work to earn our wife's loyalty (freaking Dorne and their love of poison).

To be honest, this is all moot as I can't see the offer even being made.

So how can we use Robbs single status to gain more troops?
We kind of need them if we are to go up against the Reach and Stormlands, whilst giving them Tywin and Gregor might unleash Dorne, we have no guarantee.
If we do have a Melisandre/Melony character proclaiming Stannis to be Durran Godsgrief reborn or something, or if Renly dies for whatever reason, then the Kingship will be his and he'll have the support of the Stormlanders. So in the event of Renly's death, I think it would be best to get Robb married to Margaery.

If not, Asha maybe? Tell Balon we'll unite our houses and our lands, and make her Lady of the North and the Isles?
...Yeah, no. After we kill him though, his ships will be ours.

Yeah, with no Mel, Stannis is probably gonna end up dead, leaving Renly as King...
As discussed before, Stannis was pretty ambivalent about fighting the overwhelmingly superior forces of Renly. Mel is the one who convinced him. We'll have to see what he does here.
So wouldn't that also mean no Red Comet and no dragons for Dany?
Possibly. Though that is much less directly connected. Magic can come back without the White Walkers coming back. The dragons have only been gone three centuries, the Others were gone for eight millennia.

7. Armistice
Those words had begun the riot.

It had not been a long one. Not when Queen Cersei unleashed Janos Slynt and his men upon them. Then it had become a slaughter, those not cut down trampled underneath those who sought to escape. It changed nothing. The Lannisters could not afford to butcher the nobility of the Crownlands to keep secret what had transpired here today. Not anymore.

With Ser Barristan's aid, his hand tight around a still dripping sword, you made your way to Sansa. "Are you alright?"

Her face was very pale, but she nodded. "Joffrey. He's-"

"Aye. The Kingslayer's get. All three of them are."

A wave of revulsion crossed her face so like Cat's. How long it had been since you'd seen her. "I'm so sorry father," she said. "All of this has been my fault. Lady, Jory, Septa Mordane-"

You put a finger to her lips, then retracted it remembering how long it had been since you'd bathed. "Hush, love. They did this, not you."

You turned to the daughter of Tywin Lannister, the man your son - gods, to think of Robb leading troops to victory against him - had smashed at Oldstones and thrown into a cell. Your leg burned as you approached her, but you did so regardless. Her hands were shaking as she spoke. "Come to gloat, Lord Stark?"

You smiled for what felt like the first time in years. "No. I've come to bargain."

---

More news followed, in the days to come, as rumors gave way to fact. The Kingslayer in a cell with his father and brother. Riverrun liberated. The Demon of Oldstones on the march to King's Landing with enough men to see the Red Keep unmade brick by brick. It was all the watch could do to keep the peace.

The past few days had undoubtedly been among the worst of Cersei's life, but she was still lovely beyond words. "You should have accepted my offer in the Godswood, Lord Stark."

"You still could. Do you think Stannis Baratheon will reward you for your loyalty? The man despises you simply because Robert loved you. There is nothing I would not offer should you make faith with us again. Myrcella for your heir. Tommen for your younger girl. I would see the Lords of Storm's End and Highgarden displaced to make way for your younger boys. I could spread my legs for you right here and now."

You chose your response with great care. "I think the black cells would be warmer."

Thus was the state of your negotiations. Some manner of exchange was necessary. Perhaps had the Gold Cloaks proven less effective at containing the riot you might have been able to collect Sansa, find Arya, and escape in the chaos. If, if, if. Such an attempt was a long shot with your leg as it was, and with Robb's victories your well-being was safeguarded.

A swapping of prisoners was to be expected, but the situation was more... lopsided. Robb had an army days from the capital. The Crownlanders would be less than enthused to send their sons and brothers to die against such a host, particularly when Lord Tywin and Ser Jaime had seen such ludicrous losses.

All of which had left you in a position of strength. The Lannisters were not broken though. There were cousins in the west who could raise another great host, further bolstered with sellswords. This was not an end to the fighting. But for now, all that remained was to make contact with your son and decide what you were willing to give up, and what you were ready to demand.

Everyone except Tywin and Gregor for Sansa and Ned. Those two are too dangerous to let go of. Plus they need to pay for their crimes against the Riverlands. Not to mention getting in Dorne's good graces.

Frankly, Cersei's top priority would be Jaime. We can get Ned and Sansa for just him and a promise to withdraw our army.

And then we can turn right around and invite the Baratheons to King's Landing while we head off and pillage the Westerlands.

That being said, Joffrey needs to either die or go to the Wall. There can't be any leeway on that.

Maybe it's time we contact the Martells and Tyrells?

Arrange a marriage of Robb and Margaery (you're welcome son!) and become bffs with the Red Viper.

We should definitely exact a high toll for this. We have an army, they have lost Tywin, Jaime and Tyrion. Also, their own army.

Can they raise another one? Sure. But then they will start to scrap the bottom of the barrel, and to damage their own production capabilities.

"I could spread my legs for you right here and now."
Cersei just offered to whore herself out to us. There has never been a time when she's been more desperate. We can demand literally anything we want to and get away with it.

I really want to arrange a marriage with Margaery if we can manage it. If we can snatch her away from Renly I'll be ecstatic.

Anyway, here's what I'm thinking so far:
- Jaime and some minor Westerland nobles in exchange for Ned and Sansa
- No releasing Tywin, Tyrion, or the Mountain
- Joffrey will not be killed, but he will be sent to the Wall
- Tommen and Myrcella will be kept in good health, but they will be your hostages in Winterfell

I want to push for Cersei to flee into exile, too. We can just have her and Jaime run away to the Summer Islands?

Unfortunately, the Lannister children gave committed no crimes. Not even Joffrey.

Our perfect answer (thus opening bargain?) is thus.
Stannis takes the thrown.
Gregor deserves to be executed for his crimes, but we can be talked down to taking the Black.
Tywin ransomed/auctioned. I don't know what crimes we could pin on him and he'd be worthless on the Wall. He's to dangerous to simply let go. If Dorne wants him they can make a offer.
Jaime gets offered the Black or execution.
Cersei gets offered joining a convent or execution. (Obviously she deserves execution, but we are negotiating with her).
Tyrian gets ransomed.
The children become wards. For who and where is negotiable.

Doesn't matter. The "crime" would be being a pretender to the Iron Throne.

Having Joffrey not sent to the Wall or executed is outright dangerous, and frankly it would be OOC of Ned not to demand something to make sure Joffrey is completely out of the line of succession.

I hope we still pillage the West for as much gold as we can get away with. Also demand Ned's leg is properly treated.

No King in the North now

[x] Tell Robb to keep all prisioners alive and treat them honourably. Demand to have Arya and Sansa return to Robb in exchange for Jaime and Tyrion (daughters for sons), Ned can go home in exchange for Tywin (Lords for Lords). Now, I think the Lannisters won't accept this if Ned/Robb just immediately declares for Stannis, so assure them of the North's neutrality and have them publicly forgive any and all perceived ills and treasons against the crown for now. This is a sucession crisis, the North has nothing to do with it.

What happened with Arya? Since Robb's army is so close, will Yoren just take her to him?

Well yeah. But we need to not push her too hard, or she might as well just kill Ned and Sansa and flle with her children. She probably loves her children more than Jaime.

How about: Tywin and Gregor are sent to Dorne. She flees to Essos with her children, with a few thousand gold dragons, to be taken back from Lannister vaults later. I mean even if we leave her in KL, the Stormlander, Reach, and possibly the Dornish army - now that the defeat of the Lannisters is certain - will come to crush her. Tyrion will be released and made Lord of the Westerlands and rest of the PoW will be released. Jaime can go to the Night's Watch or flee with her, depending on how hard she bargains, I don't really care.

When she asks how she can trust her, remind her we are both honourable, and don't want her children to suffer for her sins.

Add whatever monetary/land deals for repaying the damage their pillaging cost.

Put baelish on the rock for his loyalty.
Sic the bank on him.
Give Kevan the wall and send him joffrey for company.
Send Ceresei to Lysa.
Get stannous to be king.
Make mace the hand.
Skedaddle the hell out of there.

Arya's somewhere in the Riverlands, so they'll probably end up joining us soon.

Way too lenient. If Cersei gets to flee then Jaime absolutely cannot have the option of fleeing with her. Also, let's not give her enough wealth to hire an army. A thousand golden dragons at the most should be enough.

That, and Joffrey needs to either die or go to the Wall to cut himself off from succession for good.

What if we just let Robb march to King's Landing, tear the Red Keep down brick by brick, and throw the freaking Iron Throne into the sea for good. Declare the Seven Kingdoms dissolved.

Since she can no longer stay in Westeros, no matter what, if we don't let her escape with her children, she'll just do it after killing Ned and Sansa. Remember, while she has lost, she still holds the power in KL. We need to make her think taking our deal is better than killing her prisoners and escaping with her kids.
