Yeah these are definitely based on the Chaos Gods.

Catty - Slaanesh
Competitive - Khorne
Indifferent - Nurgle
Manipulative - Tzeentch

[X] Indifferent

So far, Yon has seemed pretty drawn to Slaanesh (even his Sect seemed Slaaneshian), so I'll throw in a vote for that too.

If he's survived this long he's not incompetent. So let's treat our rival with some respect, shall we?

Why bother?

Also, the fact that he's survived this long just means that he managed not to piss off the drill sergeants hard enough that they were willing to kill an inner. That's not hard.

He still hates Yon so indifference just seems like giving him a chance to strike first. Might as well shift the power in the relationship

Having someone to compete with is always good for personal growth. This is someone with a head start on Yon in many ways, a rival to overcome in classic xianxia fashion. Iron sharpens iron, so let us sharpen each other's swords.

Edit: Wait I just turned this into dual cultivation again didn't I.

Indifferent is the move that continues following through on the core Yon strategy, and it's a solid play for all the same reasons.
You make some good arguments, changing my vote.

Voted manipulative to act first before he tries stabbing us, but indifferent plays to our style more and it is a good point the sergents are those that really matter here.
Heh. They've left the eye... which means that demons aren't whispering things to you all the time. It's a very weird experience from Yon's perspective.
My read was that it was the jump from the warp to the materium, but nice theory, didn't think that we might have lived in and than left the eye.

Yon knew from experience and examining her spiritual response that "that" had been extraordinarily painful, but it seemed that worship of the Lotus Prince among the Celestials held that pain was simply a sensation like any other that was to be enjoyed. The Lotus Eye sect taught that pain was something that could be transcended through enlightenment, and that joy came from that enlightenment itself.

Ah yes. Prepare for a very odd wake up call. Enlightenment does I fact bring joy, it's just that that involves your brain being required to derive pleasure from literally everything.

It almost sounded like they were entombed within the bowels of some enormous ship that was sailing across a sea of raw spiritual energy!

You are dear.

There were easier ways to get extra spiritual energy… at the sect.

It's really interesting as a note that sexual fluids can be used as a weak spiritual carrier fluid. It makes total sense too, in a Xianxia context!

I loved the elaborate description of how dual cultivation works and the inherent power imbalance (in the opposite to normal direction) if done wrong.

I just had a very silly thought. You all know about isekai stories, and truck-kun, right? The idea presents a truck as a near-inevitable force of death. If truck-kun is coming for you, you might have just a moment to see it coming, and then wham. You're gone.

Well, with respect to the Sacred Brotherhood from the Storm Sworn Sect....
The only thing keeping the centre were the adamant bonds of brotherhood and devoted lovers, and the death of one partner inevitably resulted in the death of the other shortly after - along with the probable incredibly messy death of whatever caused the death of the first partner.
Their love is like a truck.

They basically use their love and brotherhood to stay sane in spite of not just khorne corruption, but cultivation of techniques that cause aggression.

This is badass, probably better than many space marines can do.

It's chaos. If you aren't doing intrigue to get to a beeter position (or keep your good position) you'll soon be pushed out someone who was.

Also Amep is going to start shit. I see this as being willing to finish it.

It also suggests that there might come a time when Lady Va might come to want him to do it "wrong". After all, their current environment doesn't have but so much in the way of cultivation supplies....

Now, don't get it twisted. I don't necessarily expect that it's going to happen. It would require a number of things to line up just right.
- She'd have to be seriously worried about her rate of cultivation, but be unable to acquire other more normal cultivation supplies
- She'd have to be unwilling (for one reason or another) to receive such assistance from her peers, for reasons that would not apply to Yon.
- Yon would have to be close enough to her in cultivation that she'd derive significant benefits from it.

...and this is complicated, of course, by the profound unacknowledged and unresolved semi-romantic feelings on both sides of that particular relationship. It's also going to be complicated by whatever her current social status is with the rest of the young core disciples. On the one side, by the rules that everyone was functioning under at the sect, she'd take severe status damage from even thinking about it. On the other side, the rules are very clearly different here (though we don't really know by how much for people at her level). Further, there are ways to gain meaningful and important status that are not beholden to the old rules in any way. Meanwhile, Yon is useful. He's valuable, and he's been becoming moreso over time, while also becoming less beholden to her. Most of the tools that she used before to ensure his loyal service are either no logner available or severely attenuated.

So... the possibility exists.
