[X] Indifferent

Getting caught up in a rivalry before we have figured out a way to cultivate properly is a waste of time, and giving him a reaction is what he wants.

It's really the sharpest burn. Also, it's in-character, and it's the cleanest one to shift from if we find that we have need.

Socially, it's effectively thorns tanking. He'll hurt himself worse trying to attack us than he'll hurt us. If at some point we have to adjust, we'll be in a good position to adjust. If you start out manipulative, it's hard to get off that train if it starts going bad. Further... the people who are actually training us? They'd rather we be low-drama. We're here to learn. If this guy is starting stuff, and Yon is just shrugging it off, then he's being an issue and Yon isn't. That's yet more positional advantage.

Oh - and indifferent also leaves him wide open to attacks from the rear. That's always nice. This guy is clearly feeling low-status, clearly has a chip on his shoulder... we can let someone else join in to slip in the knife.

Indifferent is the move that continues following through on the core Yon strategy, and it's a solid play for all the same reasons.
There was a reason that the Sacred Brotherhood from the Storm Sworn Sect were rightfully feared. The level of violence a band composed entirely of committed homosexual couples who were all dual cultivating to be almost pure yang, and then sworn to service to the Storm Lord, was legendary. The only thing keeping the centre were the adamant bonds of brotherhood and devoted lovers, and the death of one partner inevitably resulted in the death of the other shortly after - along with the probable incredibly messy death of whatever caused the death of the first partner.
That fits... so well....
Somewhat surprisingly to everyone, they only had a few more days under the smothering pressure before there was another announcement to stand by and then everything returned to normal. Or somewhat more normal, since once the pressure abated two things stood out. One was that Yon's spiritual senses felt sharper, his medical duties while under the wrapping effect forcing them to grow in response. The second was that his spiritual senses felt like the world was more… hollow. Yes, hollow was the best word. Like he had stepped from a crowded hall to a mostly empty one, where the buzz of noise was replaced with awkward echoes.
Heh. They've left the eye... which means that demons aren't whispering things to you all the time. It's a very weird experience from Yon's perspective.

I find the idea that everyone expects the surviving gay man in the couple to RIP AND TEAR as a humorous image.
