The traveller showed up, an ominous message is currently top secret, and a complete gutting of top talents just happened. And it's possible to exist, unformed as a contingency, with a short list of names to enable quick formation. Which, if roll is canon, nearly all dropped dead from the completely unknown attack. It isn't gonna be the same XCOM of either games, but it's possible for some equivalent to form. Possibly even borrowing the name because of the games.

I mean going off of my work, Lord Hood's already doing some paranoia investigation of what's already happening.
Who's to say the XCOM equivalent isn't still doing the same and making similar conclusions.
The current 'Xcom equivalent', if it's around, is an UN group consisting of many of the most influential countries in the world, currently freaking out as they try and figure out who in the XCOM contingency short list is still alive.
Or it's just now forming because someone in the UN smashed the alarm button after finding out just how many in its short list is now dead.
The two game versions are similar, yet very different.

Mistakes? There havent been ANY real mistakes on our end.
We have not made a single decision that got the planet to where it is right now.
Sure, there is the hope for more clean energy in the future, we will eventually be dropping Sloot, Glimmer, and the nanites. We will eventually change the world if we make it that long.
But the current fuckery is ENTIRELY a result of QM interpreting RNG.

We know there's Transformers in here, though we have no idea which continuity or combination of continuities it would be, and that Primus is going to be an entity on the level of the Traveller for the Light.
Where does that put Optimus Prime on the power ladder of Destiny 2? Could he fist fight a Disciple or Hive God? Or perhaps even make Witty himself fucking WORK for the win thanks to the Bullshittium that is the Matrix of Leadership?

Well considering the Matrix Of leadership has a Fragment of Primus, who is probably in the same weight class as the Traveller.
I'd say Hive God level, but that's only because the Witness is Bullshit enough from the games.

Also, one thing for people to consider, we seem to be very, very weirdly resistant to the Darkness(I know it's from rerolls but in universe they don't know that), so honestly I could see the Traveler just deciding at some point to slam us with uber boosts after a point.
Also I dunno if people saw but we got a 2 for the random event, it was a crit fail basically, which is why is was so Mcfucking horrible

You know, Coilguns would be a lot more manageable than shrinking railguns down to be man portable. We've already solved one of the main problems with Coilguns, that being a strong enough power supply. The other being material wear and tear, but that's a lot simpler to figure out than the power supply. Granted, the railguns have these problems too. Though, it's a bit worse on material wear and tear than it's little brother.
I just want Gauss cannon from the halo verse to be a thing here. The sound has been burned into my brain, and I hear it every time railguns or coilguns get brought up.

Um. We haven't figured them out, because we still need to miniaturize CFRs. We haven't even gotten them small enough to fit in naval ships. I reckon getting them small enough for inside the gun containment is a next year project, the earliest, even with a ton of temp dice.
As it is, we have fairly good odds of creating tech integrated infantry railguns by completing both projects this turn. I'd say job well done there, time to finish the remaining integration phases.

The main issue with railguns is getting the rail materials and the energy source
The rail material needs to withstand the shoots without eroding in a long enough time frame
The energy source needs to be portable
So personally i think we should push for miniaturizing our reactor another couple stages
The next one is a small reactor size (think a couple storage rooms)
Wich is what you can expect on ships and big buildings
Aftet that is engine sized reactors,feasible for normal houses and big/heavy vehicles (trucks,mining vehicles,heavy construction gear etc)
Railguns only become game changing when you can mount them on a vehicle (and smaller)
Static defenses are a waste (it take one small scout drone to call a small suicide drone or a infantry or artillery attack)
We need railguns to be mobile

We have a project for railguns. We put dice on it, more than we probably needed. It's likely going to finish, and benefit from integration being finished for an extra effective weapon. Your over thinking things a bit.
