Finding the Spark (Pathfinder 1E Quest)

We can just use regular teleport scrolls?

Though we'll have to ask for extra reduce persons to get everyone out at once.

Regular Teleport will have a high chance of misshaps.
Not really, no. It will be teleporting to a well-known, previously visited location. It's going in on a basis of a single scying spell that makes us use GT; the way out will likely be easier.

...though I assume we are going to run into the Lamashan hive one way or the other, and should we emerge victorious, there won't be anyone to stop us from simply walking out.

Whew, finally home. Been baking all day. And I may or may not have also eaten a bit too much of the goods...

Putting a plan together now.

I can't help but inquire.
"I can either laugh or weep at the fact that we are looking at a major diplomatic incident precipitated by the diplomats of House Basri, Governor Bozbeyli,"
What are the political ramifications of House Basri participating in these schemes? I assume we have enough dirt on them that the rest of their dealings could be brought to light... or at least to the attention of higher authorities.

* There is hiding a drow incursion into the city, resulting in a demonic hive no one knew to watch out for taking roots under Cassomir
* There is covering up illegal slave and drug trade with the drow, notorious enough to have a political effect on a major faction
* There is privateering and attacking dwarven trade vessels
* There is a kidnapping (and possibly attempted murder) of an imperial knight
* Who is also a nephew of a Grand Duchess, bet that raises the importance quite a bit
* And all of this is done at the behest of a foreign power trying to keep their operations a secret from the Emperor
* Other comparably minor offences like spying on the Lord Governor and threatening the Pathfinder Guild

The number and the standing of the offended parties are such that I am curious to find out who will take the blame for this, and how.
I am also mildly interested to see the priority the Taldan law assigns these violatons.

None of you have knowledge law, do you want to ask the princess and/or the governor? Because you can vote for that.

After we are done rescuing Sir Pisca, perhaps. Seeing how we are the ones who ran into each and every one of these plots, I'd like to see these people... let's call it "removed from power to pursue retaliatory action".

I am also genuinely curious why Swallowtail is attacking dwarves and why the supposed diplomats went along with it. We have aligned ourselves with one dwarven clan already, and I am wondering what significance it might have for our future contacts with elves.

Damn, we are burning through money to rescue Pisca and Saenar. Two 700 gold scrolls so far, and I'm about to vote to use a 2,275 gold Greater Teleport scroll. I hope the princess is willing to reimburse us for our efforts? We might be rich, but we aren't a charity.

Here's what I've got so far. Basically, it's the same scheme we were planning to use to transport the Iruxi with us back to Andoran. The Reduce Person scrolls won't last long, though, so even if we have six of copies I don't want to try using all of them. Six seconds per scroll, call it 30 seconds to cast the spell and get all four of the extra guards in the bag, Teleport, then 10 or 12 seconds to get them all out. That's cutting it close, but the bag has a large internal volume and can hold up to 500 pounds, so even just getting a couple of them out immediately should be enough if there is something to delay the rest from exiting it.

EDIT: Based on the limits of our buff spells, we shouldn't try to bring more than three of the princess's guards along, so I've updated the plan accordingly. We might not need to use Reduce Person on them, since a 500 pound weight limit is pretty good when you consider Cob weighs less than 40 pounds, IIRC, and Sirim is weightless.

I've got multiple layered Invisibility spells used here; individual spells on group members, plus an Invisibility Sphere to hide everyone. The sphere isn't really going to be good for long, since anyone who leaves the radius or attacks will become visible, but we only need it long enough to obscure our arrival and confuse any onlookers while everyone gets sorted out.

I've got everyone in our party covered by Invisibility except for Gorok, who will be using Mirror Image and Shield spells for added defense.

[X] The princess rushes to rescue the knight!
-[X] Gorok's Ghosts will accompany the princess and her guards on the rescue mission. We have a Greater Teleport scroll we can use to instantly transport a small group to Sir Pisca's location.
--[X] If she agrees, we will teleport the party, the princess, and three of her guards.
---[X] Prior to teleporting:
----[X] Ask the princess to use whatever long-lasting buff spells or effects she has available from scrolls or other items which could aid the rescue attempt. If she can provide Communal Darkvision, Communal Delay Poison, or Ashen Path effects, that will allow our party to preserve our limited powers for later use in the fight.
----[X] Ask the governor if he can quickly source a functional greatsword, perhaps from a member of his guard, and a chain shirt as well. If we are able to rescue him, it would helpful if he isn't defenseless for what follows. Alternatively, if the princess has a scroll or wand of Mage Armor, that could work as well.

----[X] Kori will cast Bless on everyone and Invisibility on himself, then activate his Cloak of Darkness. He will the use Inspired Spell to cast Extended Ashen Path (20 minutes duration each) and Communal Delayed Poison (1 hour duration each) on everyone, and activate his Unfettered Shirt immediately before Mina teleports them.
----[X] Mina will cast Mage Armor on herself, if she hasn't already, along with Hermean Potential and the See Invisibility spell she stored in her ring earlier. She'll cast Encouraging Mythic Heroism on Gorok after using her 3rd level Pearl of Power to recover the spell. She then casts Invisibility on Cob and herself.
----[X] Sirim will cast Mage Armor on himself, if he hasn't already, along with Magic Circle Against Evil, Mirror Image, Invisibility, and Shield. He will use Wild Arcana to cast Communal Darkvision on Gorok, the princess, and her guards.
----[X] Cob activates his Unfettered Shirt immediately before Mina teleports them.

----[X] Gorok will use his Scabbard of Keen Edges on his sword, allow Cob to use it on his dagger, and offer the princess or one of her guards its final daily charge. He will then cast Lead Blades on his sword, and Mirror Image and Shield from his ring, then activates his Unfettered Shirt immediately before Mina teleports them.
--[X] Gorok, Kori, Mina, the princess, and a guard of her choosing will be the main passengers of the our Greater Teleport scroll, with the destination being the chamber where Sir Pisca is being held. Cob, Sirim, and two of her guards will travel inside of our Type II Bag of Holding.
---[X] Mina will use a Reduce Person scroll if necessary to make room for two of the princess's guards along with Cob and Sirim in our Type II Bag of Holding. As soon as everyone is in the bag, Mina will use her Fortune Hex on herself to help her use the Greater Teleport scroll. She will use the rerolls from her Hex and from her Hermean Potential spell to succeed on the caster level check, if necessary.
----[X] Upon arrival, Kori will open the Bag of Holding to allow first Sirim, then Cob, then the princess's guards to exit.

Swallowtail might not even know why he's arranging attacks on Dwarven interests. According to Pathfinder lore, he's under command of the Winter Council.

Zarineth - PathfinderWiki

At this point in time he's very much dedicated to eradicating the Drow. If there is a plan to somehow make the Dwarves think it's Drow targeting them, Swallowtail wouldn't hesitate to implement it.

If Swallowtail was directly involved in taking Pisca and Saenar, rather than simply giving orders and maybe providing some scrolls or other enchanted items, Saenar is probably already dead.

There is a lot more we could be getting from this than money. The governor will take care of monetary issues (not having to explain this to Grand Duchess Fahlspar is priceless), but even so we were promised this for the very first job:
I realize you do not lack for gold, but there are other things I am in a position to grant you; access to rare lore, military support of the Navy and the Taldan Horse, diplomatic credentials to go abroad in the world, and more.
Personally, I am eyeing those 'diplomatic credentials'. I might not be Imperial Taldor's biggest fan, but there is a lot of good, and more importantly, interesting things we could do with those, not strangers from a highway, but half-official envoys. Trusted enough to represent Taldan interests, and more importantly, to shape the form they take. The Princess' faction is seeking to change things, and we might be able to help them in that regard... and help ourselves in the process.

But also, the idea of a goblin making a better diplomat than a born-and-raised one from House Basri tickles me funny.

It is, admittedly, the role I wanted for Kori back when we were asked for our motivation, to become a conduit of change, an influence to shape things. Not a power to rule, but one rulers lend an ear to. I thought it'd come to us through the oracular gift and Azlanti memories, but an official diplomatic status fits the mold, too.

And, um. I am geting a kick out of seeing Mina get accustomed to the presence of royalty.

If Swallowtail was directly involved in taking Pisca and Saenar
You mean, Swallowtail is not the mage we saw in the mirror? *reads the entry*

Well, that is a relief and a disappointment all at once.

It's not so much the expense of the scrolls that worries me, but rather us inadvertently setting the precedent that we will freely burn through thousands of gold in single-use magic items to support other people's interests without expecting anything in return.

I don't think it will be an issue this time, but it's still something to consider.

Between the governor, the princess, and Duchess Fahlspar, we should be doing pretty well for ourselves in the reputation/favor department.

I'll lean much more toward relief for this one if he isn't present. A 15th level Wizard is not something I want to deal with any time soon.

I don't want to waste too much Mythic power before we even start fighting, but I'm leaning towards at least having Kori cast Ashen Path on everyone, just in case of magical smoke, fog, ash, etc.

Maybe a Communal Darkvision spell from Sirim for Gorok, the princess, and her guards, too.

The possibility of Drow involvement in the Locker and Demon shenanigans also makes me think a Communal Delay Poison from Mina might be helpful.

The sooner we learn these spells so we don't need to rely on Mythic power for them, the better off we'll be.

EDIT: Plan updated with more buffs, plus a reduction/removal of Reduce Person tactics. Spell buffs limit the practical group to our party plus the princess and three guards. Given the size of the Bag of Holding, we might not need to shrink anyone, and if we do, it would only be one guard.

I don't like that this only leaves Kori and Mina with two Mythic power each, but they're important buffs for the group and they still have plenty of other spells prepared. Better safe than poisoned or blinded by smoke, ash, etc.

[X] Yes
-[X] Adamantine Daggers: x6 (2 for Cob, 1 for everyone else, including Sirim once he has hands) - Cost: 18,000 gold
-[X] Elven Curve Blade: x1 for Gorok - Cost: 3,000 gold
-[X] Tusk Caps: x2 for Warty - Cost: 6,000 gold
-[X] Breastplate (Medium Armor): x1 for Gorok - Cost: 10,000 gold
-[X] Chainmail Barding (Medium Armor): x1 for Warty - Cost: 20,000 good
-[X] TOTAL: 57,000 gold
@DragonParadox, we voted to have this adamantine stuff made from our portion of the loot back on the 13th. It's the 19th now. Since we stayed longer than we were originally planning, I assume we've already picked this stuff up?

Until the sheets get updated (I'm also guessing we'll have some more level ups to handle soon-ish), Gorok's AC should be 1 point higher and he will have DR/--. Warty's AC will be 2 points higher, he'll have DR 2/--, and he'll have an extra point added to his attack bonus, though I doubt he'll see combat down here before he gets his upgrades when Gorok levels.

@Goldfish I also hope we can find Sarenar-Sean- thing's body, so this might be more than just this fight. Locate object, for one thing.

We have access to princess levels of political power:

I think, for the sake of resources, we should spend 10 to 15 min, 20 min? having stuff like Ashen Path and darkvision brought to us, to save on Mythic Power.

If it would take more than 25 min I'd be unwilling.

At the very least, just use the Communal Delay Poison scroll?

Also, as a rogue with higher damage and lower BaB, I think Cob is better off with Heroism than Gorok.

When things are hectic, they also tend to take longer. Just look at the events in the palace after the kidnapping was discovered. It took us 15 minutes to get everyone into the library from where we were originally meeting with the princess, and it took even longer than that for servants to bring a mirror Mina could use for Scrying. If we send off for that stuff, I'm sure we'll get it, but how long will it take? Half an hour, hours?

I would rather go save Pisca and possibly Saenar now rather than wait an undetermined amount of time. The Elves we were just spying on could decide to kill Pisca at any moment, or the Lamashans down there could get involved.

As for the Communcal Delay Poison scroll, I would use it but it can only affect 5 people. It would leave the princess's guards unprotected.

I'm not worried as much about Cob's higher damage in this instance as I am Gorok's saving throws. He's our frontline group member most likely to be attacked and to have spells targeted against him, especially early on when the rest of the party is Invisible. The +5 bonus to his saving throws could make a lot of difference.

That said, Gorok can do pretty good damage. He'll have his Lead Blades spell active, Keen Edge from his Scabbard, and he'll get his Favored Enemy bonuses against any Evil Outsiders we run into down here.

I am going to update my plan to include asking the princess to provide whatever group buffs she can, on the assumption she has to have some decent stuff and the UMD skill. She might be able to provide the Communal Darkvision, Ashen Path, Delay Poison, etc., spells for our group.

Don't bother. I think you'll find him in the hive.

The Doylist reasoning is that Elywa's hook was set up a while ago, and two elves are hardly the toughest challenge for a Party+. Why waste a character?
The Watsonian is pretty obvious as well.

Yeah, we're going to end up going into the hive, after all. That's what I'm planning for, not just a fight with the Elves we saw when Scrying on Pisca.

Darkvision and Delay Poison are practically required for raiding a hidden Drow and Demon base.

I hope the princess has some buffs to contribute to the mission, too.

@Goldfish we're not waiting for getting supplies, which is fair, but can we get the governor to command one of his guards wearing magical armour to strip it off, so we can lend it to Pisca? (Magical so that it automatically re-sizes).

He's going to want to contribute.

Also a sword and shield, in case his own sword is out of reach for a bit.
