Looking forward to seeing what the heck happened there.
Not looking forward to explaining to Gavhaul that we went against orders and now have to leave the expedition again, to save our friends.

Thankfully a moment's sleep, which involves leaning on Gorok's shoulder, is all Mina needs to conjure up Pepper once more into the waking world. He arrives with a surprised hiss and a jump almost a foot in the air, before realizing where he is and what must have happened.
"Oh dear, I suppose someone must have noticed that..."
He goes on to explain that as soon as he entered the town, built of stone unlike most woodland settlements, he had noticed white and silver banners flying above a moss-covered long hall in the center of it, a sign of strange visitors in town. A half-bell's worth of skulking about later and he had discovered that it was a fey delegation from the Court of Resplendent Morn looking to buy in on something, though what that might be was the subject of feverish speculation among the villagers.
The Court of Resplendent Morn had not shown much interest in the gems that were the lifeblood of Fusil before it was said, due to having access to the dazzling and wondrous deposits of the First World, where the gems came in hues and patterns that defied human imagination. Neither morehad the seasons before been particularly harsh, which might tempt the least fortunate to sell their services or, in particularly dire circumstances, their own children to the fey as servants in their hidden halls.
Your furry spy had caught a lucky break when he'd heard one of the older village boys say something about them being after the 'skytube' as his sister was feeding Pepper, though he had quickly been shushed by his mother. After informing Cob and Sirim of the exchange at an agreed upon meeting spot by the village midden he'd tried to get closer to the meeting with the fey... though as he tried to open a high window covering Pepper's nose came up against a ward as solid to him as a wall of ice... and the next thing he knew he ended up here. Someone inside must have been alerted that they were being spied on and chosen to remove the spy.
"Probably one of the fey and not the villagers on the balance."
"So they are paranoid about being observed or overheard..." You shake your head. "Either that or they have master Urgor's response to peril. It's hard to get a grip on how these spirits think just from the stories I heard so far."

Thus reassured, if only in part, you decide to wait for Cob and Sirm, whom you expect to catch up to the caravan at evening time. What you do not expect is for the goblin and shade to arrive with a present: It somewhat resembling a crossbow, but where the bow mechanism normally was had been replaced by a two foot long and two inch diameter hollow steel tube worked to near-dwarfish precision.
At the sight of it the world the words of a spell come almost unbidden, to drag the sense of familiarity from the clutch of fading dreams.... this device, you know, allows its wielder to shoot items weighing no more than 10 pounds up to 440 feet using a runic induction enchantment. It takes some skill to hit with it, though far less than with a modern bow or crossbow. In your hands is a weapon of the Old Empire, one of those that had been carried from the steaming jungles of the Mowagi Expanse to the craggy coasts of what-wound-be-Thassilon against the Empire of the serpentfolk.
"Cob, Sirim, where did you get this?" The riot of emotions, of familiar and strange—you'd used a weapon like this a thousand times and a thousand times again, and at the same time never used it—drops your voice to a strangled whisper.
"Tunnels under big house. They're hiding some good loot there that they don't wanna talk 'about. Got in the tunnels alright, but I couldn't get past the last guard since he was a big longshank, wide-shank maybe, so I took this off him when he wasn't looking to show you. Looked funny so thought maybe magic, maybe it's important. Good?"
"You stole a guard's weapon off him while he was on duty?" Mina is obviously in awe of the feat.
Cob naturally preens.
But the question now is what to do with that insight. The villagers of Fusil have some of the goods from the crash, some of the very treasures you want, and they are talking to the local fey about them, maybe to trade them away. Should we go back to offer them a better deal? Should we just go back there to finish what Cob started? What do they know? What else did they find? Questions whirl around in your mind like bats in a field of numb-shrooms.
What do you do?

OOC: Readers of A Sword Without a Hilt may recognize that item. I already had a whole collection inventive and clever magi-tech, so why not use it?
Somewhat resembling a crossbow where the bow mechanism has been replaced by a two foot long and two inch diameter hollow steel tube, this device allows its wielder to shoot items no larger than Tiny-size or weighing more than 10 pounds using the Launch Item spell up to 440 feet. Where applicable, the wielder must make a Ranged Attack roll to strike a target.
That's gonna be great for delivering Alchemical items at range. Really glad we sent in Cob to scope out the town. Good loot and even better information.
So Fusil got their hands on Azlanti magi-tech, and not just a bit of scrap or single curious device, but a sizable number of devices. Otherwise, I doubt a village guard would be equipped with a Launcher rather than a crossbow. Does that mean they salvaged it from the stasis tubes, took it from the Azlanti survivors themselves, or was it given to them in trade? Or could one or more of the survivors be in Fusil now?
I agree we need to pass this information on to Gavhaul.

Launchers are also just barely capable of shooting a light ballista bolt. If we could get a small supply of them, each would be able to do 3d8 points of damage. That's pretty solid.
It will make setting enemy ships on fire while at sea much easier, too. Launching Alchemist's Fire from 440 feet is a great way to burn sails and rigging.
We really need to expand our supply of Alchemical items when we get a chance.

Not as is, you would have to alchemically stabilize it (basically make a tanglefoot bag). Having the slime does mean you can make them for only 70% of the crafting price and Cob can make those.

Gravity Bow would increase damage to 4d8. I'm not sure if it would work with a Launcher, though, since they're technically a Wondrous Item rather than a traditional weapon.

Gotcha, but which ones you think would fit well with new launcher? If good as you say, might be worth it more to put Gorok on ranged support duty from now on.
That or train Cob to use it to be our resident alchemical stealth bomber.

No, Gorok is melee-focused, like Artemis said. He isn't just for dealing damage in melee, but keeping enemies off our casters. Also, Gorok now has his second iterative attack, which increases to three attacks once Haste is applied.
A Launcher is good for certain situations, but it is limited because it can only be used once per round, no matter how many attacks you would normally have available.
Cob or Gorok would be best to use it at a distance before serious combat starts, or when other attacks aren't practical, like between ships at sea or while riding on our Abductor Figurine. Otherwise, it would probably be better for Mina or Kori when spells are running low or they're trying to conserve them.
