Turn 7: The Entering the Wound
Colchis - 831.M30

The air around the Wound shimmered with an eerie stillness, a stark contrast to the temporal flux and chaotic energies that once plagued the area. The Wound, no longer a Warp Rift, now served as a stable gate to the underworld, its chaotic aspects transformed into deathly ones. The oppressive, nauseating aura had been replaced by a heavy, solemn atmosphere, like the weight of ancient sorrow pressing down upon your shoulders.

You, Lorgar, Thalassa, and Dharok stood at the edge of this transformed landscape, the remnants of its previous malevolence still whispering faintly in your minds. The sky above was overcast, with dark clouds swirling ominously, casting long shadows over the terrain. The ground was a mix of cracked earth and patches of dark, almost black, vegetation, as if life itself had been tainted by the proximity to the underworld.

"It's been five days since we last saw the Mask," you said, your voice barely a murmur in the thick, oppressive air. "We have two days left in which his agents cannot attack us unless we strike first. We must make the most of this time."

Lorgar nodded, his expression determined. "We need to proceed carefully. The transformation of the Wound has undoubtedly changed the nature of the dangers we face within."

Thalassa, her newly reborn form glowing faintly with an inner light, added, "We must be vigilant. The gate to the underworld may hold secrets and threats we cannot anticipate."

Dharok, his eyes scanning the horizon, spoke up. "Then let us not delay. The sooner we enter, the sooner we can uncover what lies within and find our way through this transformed landscape."

The entrance to the Wound loomed before you, an archway of twisted, dark stone inscribed with ancient runes that glowed with a cold, blue light. As you stepped closer, the temperature seemed to drop, and a chill breeze whispered through the archway, carrying faint echoes of voices long dead.

Ahead of you, three distinct paths branched off from the entrance, each leading deeper into the transformed Wound.

"We must choose our path wisely," you said, looking at your companions. "Each path will have its own challenges and advantages."

To the left lay the Path of the Forgotten Ancestors. This path was lined with ancient, crumbling statues of long-forgotten warriors and kings. The air was thick with the presence of spirits, their forms flickering in and out of view. This path promised knowledge and potential allies in the form of ancestral spirits, but also the risk of powerful entities bound to the underworld.

To the right, the Path of the Shattered Memories stretched out before you, a desolate landscape with fragmented memories manifesting as ghostly visions that floated and danced in the air. The ground was littered with shards of broken dreams and ambitions, each step crunching underfoot. This path offered insights into the past and the possibility of finding lost relics, but it was fraught with the danger of becoming lost in the overwhelming flood of memories.

Straight ahead was the Path of the Silent Graves. This path led through a graveyard of ancient tombs and mausoleums, the final resting places of forgotten heroes and villains alike. The silence was deafening, and the air was heavy with the scent of decay. This path promised treasures buried with the dead and potential shortcuts through the underworld, but also the threat of awakening ancient curses and undead guardians.

You turned to your companions, each of them eyeing the paths with their own thoughts and considerations.

"Lorgar, Thalassa, Dharok," you said, "we must choose our path."

Lorgar glanced at the Path of the Forgotten Ancestors, his brow furrowed in thought. "The knowledge and potential allies we could gain from the spirits of the ancestors are valuable. They might guide us, offer wisdom we lack, and perhaps even fight alongside us. But dealing with powerful spirits is not without its risks. They may have their own agendas or be bound by ancient oaths that could work against us."

Thalassa, her eyes glowing softly, considered the Path of the Shattered Memories. "Relics and insights from the past could be crucial. The relics might hold power or secrets that could aid us greatly. However, the threat to our sanity is real. Fragmented visions could overwhelm us, make us lose our sense of self, or lead us astray. We must be cautious if we choose this path, for the mind is a fragile thing."

Dharok, his gaze fixed on the Path of the Silent Graves, spoke with a note of reverence. "The graves of ancient heroes and villains... There lies power, buried and forgotten. Treasures that could turn the tide in our favor, shortcuts that might save us time. But curses and undead guardians are formidable foes. Disturbing the dead has always carried dire consequences. We must be prepared to face the wrath of those who lie in eternal rest."

You listened to their considerations, each argument weighing heavily in your mind. "The Forgotten Ancestors offer guidance but come with the risk of dealing with unpredictable spirits. The Shattered Memories promise relics but threaten our sanity. The Silent Graves hold treasures but awaken curses and the dead."

Lorgar nodded, his face set in determination. "If we take the Path of the Forgotten Ancestors, we must be ready to negotiate, to appease, and to fight spirits if necessary. Their aid could be invaluable, but we cannot trust them blindly."

Thalassa added, "The Shattered Memories require mental fortitude. We must be prepared to face the past, to sift through the visions without losing ourselves. The relics could provide us with the edge we need, but we cannot afford to become lost in the memories."

Dharok, ever the practical warrior, concluded, "The Silent Graves demand respect for the dead. We must tread carefully, honoring the tombs while seeking their treasures. The undead are relentless, but the rewards could be worth the risk if we proceed with caution."

You stood in silence, the weight of the decision pressing upon you. Each path held its own promise and peril, each choice a step into the unknown. The air grew colder, the whispers of the transformed Wound seeming to urge you onward, yet no clear answer emerged.

Lorgar broke the silence. "We need to consider our strengths and weaknesses. Which path aligns best with our abilities and our goals?"

Thalassa replied, "We must also think about what we are willing to risk. Are we prepared to face powerful spirits, the loss of our sanity, or the wrath of the undead?"

Dharok nodded in agreement. "And we cannot forget the time we have left. Two days until the Mask's agents can attack us again. We must make our choice wisely, but also swiftly."

You looked at each of them, seeing the determination and concern etched on their faces. The decision loomed large, and yet, it remained just out of reach.

Each of your companions weighed the options in their minds, understanding that the path you chose would shape the challenges and opportunities ahead.

"What shall it be?" you asked, the decision looming large as you prepared to step into the transformed Wound.

CHOICE:
[] Path of the Forgotten Ancestors
[] Path of the Shattered Memories
[] Path of the Silent Graves

NOTE:
Lorgar and Dharok, do not respire Essence. Fan does and Thalassa does if she equips the Infinite Prana reactor. Relic and Treasures are separate things. Relics being artifact and equipment, while treasures powerful but consumable.

[X] Path of the Forgotten Ancestors

The power of friendship has not lead us astray yet, all the others are nice to have, but especially with the gifts we gave Thalessa we have the means to free some of the dead from the shard and so overcome him.

Looking at Thalassa's potential loadout, this is relevant:

Article:
By committing one Essence, Thalassa can render herself immune to one of the following for the scene, to be declared at the start:

Wind, cold, and electricity (air); being crushed, cut, or pierced by stone or metal (earth); being burned (fire); being drowned (water); being poisoned or struck by wooden objects (wood); disease (death); possession (spirit); or the twisting of the mind by supernatural powers (dreams).

By committing an additional Essence; then damage for the other categories are downgraded from aggravated to lethal, lethal to bashing, and bashing damage cut in half after soak (round down), while immunity to possession and thought alteration become the ability to make a Willpower roll at difficulty (10 - Mythos) to immediately shake the effect off, and immunity to disease becomes the ability to make a Stamina roll at difficulty (10 - Mythos) to immediately shake the infection off.

That means that Thalassa can become immune to supernatural mental attack but not to curses.

That means Shattered Memories.

Lorgar and Dharok, do not respire Essence. Fan does and Thalassa does if she equips the Infinite Prana reactor. Relic and Treasures are separate things. Relics being artifact and equipment, while treasures powerful but consumable.

Can Dharok beat evil entities up to restore Essence and Willpower from his Mythos power?

Looking at pros and cons of each.

Pros:

Lorgar is good at socials

Cons:

It's relatively easy to ignore socials

No one but Lorgar is very relevant

Thalassa, her eyes glowing softly, considered the Path of the Shattered Memories. "Relics and insights from the past could be crucial. The relics might hold power or secrets that could aid us greatly. However, the threat to our sanity is real. Fragmented visions could overwhelm us, make us lose our sense of self, or lead us astray. We must be cautious if we choose this path, for the mind is a fragile thing."

Pro

Lorgar, Thalassa, and Fan can no sell mental attacks

Relics might be valuable and useful

Cons

Dharok is probably also invulnerable to mental attack because of his True Name, but I'm not sure?

Dharok, his gaze fixed on the Path of the Silent Graves, spoke with a note of reverence. "The graves of ancient heroes and villains... There lies power, buried and forgotten. Treasures that could turn the tide in our favor, shortcuts that might save us time. But curses and undead guardians are formidable foes. Disturbing the dead has always carried dire consequences. We must be prepared to face the wrath of those who lie in eternal rest."

Pros:

Gotta catch them all! Defeated enemy ghosts can be stuffed in Fan's anima for later reformatting into allies

We're very combat heavy and very good at defeating ghosts between Dharok, Thalassa, and Fan.

The only option that might speed us up. This matters as if we want to perform sorcerous rituals or have Thalassa switch her load out having extra time would really help

Any treasures we find might be reverse engineer-able.

Curses are very likely Shaping we can reverse with Pattern Reassertion Touch

Cons

Fighting might consume essence that Lorgar and Dharok can't respire

If they were daemons? Yes. But ghosts are still human, technically, and they need to be evil to count, which they currently are not.

Presumably the Hecatoncheires are though?

Yes. Also do not make assumptions. Like curses are less things that effect you and more, things that effect your kin or things that effect how the underworld reacts to you, making your life harder.

Similarly, the visions are less mental attacks but things you roll willpower and if you fail, you loose time. Nothing that outright attacks you but tricks you into loosing track of things.

No path is simple and each has equal challenges that work around your charms. Keep in mind that the Mask has dealth with both Solars and Abyssals, and has an......unfortunate amount of experience with Infernals, so he knows all of your tricks.

Hm, the two hekatonkhire are the key, the anchor. If they are destroyed, the Mask of Winters will not be able to continue projecting into this universe.

Of course, the Mask of Winters is no doubt acutely aware of this vulnerability and has almost certainly taken preemptive measures to enhance the security of the hekatonkhire.

As said, the Mask of Winters knows all the tricks of the Solaroids, Solars, Abyssals, and Infernals. With that kind of experience, Fan Morgal is not going to be the one to outfox him.

He is still limited by the nature of his tools, both the former daemons and the Wound itself. He's playing defense here and we don't have to outfox him. We can just outstab him as long as we can keep him from outfoxing us.

@Yzarc can Lorgar's cousin able to advance using knowledge that Corax gifted to Lorgar?

Is there a reason why Lorgar's stealth skill not reflected in his core mythos?

Lorgar and Certain Demigoddess archetype is Visionary. Can two with same Archetype able to exist in same time period?

My understanding is that multiple people with the same Mythos can't have the same set of Aspects, but they can share individual Aspects. Both Lorgar and Dharok have the Rebel Aspect of the Human Archetype, but their Holy and Light aspects don't overlap.

Hm, bon chance with that prospect. Seeing as the party completely played into his hands once already...

If we'd had an average or better roll we would have beaten him though. We were just slightly unlucky.

@Yzarc i previously mentioned about ritualistic blood adoption to infuse portion of Lorgar's DNA and gifts to people of the planet. I was wondering can we do something more permanent using help of Worldspirit? A sacred pool infused with Lorgar's blood(his cousin blood as well) and energies of Worldspirit where one can undergo ritual. A sorta like warcraft sunwall or various canon examples of Sacred pools.

P.S. I do not think Demigoddess or Infernal blood far to volatile for such ritual so best use lorgar and cousin.

Yes, they already are. What do you think purchasable "Mutations" are?

Stealth skills? Those are adaptations/Mutations, similar to how Russ got wolves or Vulcan got his traits.

Archetype is personality. As in who they are. Not Mythos related. It is from OwoD. Every one has it. Mythos Archetype are different.

Try this and find out. I know I said this before but I can only give that information that Fan has, and this is the kind of thing you need to try/research to figure out.

Thinking of the Ancestor option, we actually have a couple of potentially valuable carrots for Lorgar to use diplomatically.

Thalassa can offer to use Malleable Soul (made easier by Spirit Ward and Shadow Spite Curse) to turn the ghosts into another kind of spirit, one that probably wouldn't be so easy for the Shard of Winter's Necromancy and charms to affect. This would be similar to how in Exalted there are a couple of ways for ghosts to become gods. She can also offer to increase their stats, as one of the things the Gift can change is 'Characteristics (Willpower, Rage, Gnosis; one point changed per success) DC 6'.

Ressurection is also possible in Warhammer on a way it isn't in Exalted. Fan can probably offer to use CCP to shape them mindless bodies to possess after the conflict is over, which may work well with Thalassa's offer of Malleable Spirit to change their nature so they're no longer ghosts.

Fan can also offer anything VEE can, and that's now a pretty versatile term.

There are other things that can be offered as well. This is the Path of Forgotten Ancestors. We can offer to change that, offering to build/shape memorials to them and the loved ones only they remember. For the truly ancient, we can also offer to let them help rebuild Colchis, to restore what has been lost and forgotten.

Bindings by ancient oaths is also a two edged sword, if they're unwillingly/magically bound, Thalassa's Release from Bondage might be useful. If they're willingly committed to them, then this gives us a potential point of leverage if we know what their oath is. For example, if they're bound by loyalty to institutions on DAoT Colchis, we can offer things like helping them rebuild that institution for a new era.

In extremis, Thalassa can also try the option of Malleable Spirit to change 'Disposition (Friendly, Neutral, Hostile) DC 8'. It's a bit too close to mind control to do indiscriminately, but this is an emergency situation and some ghosts may not have what we'd see as uncompromised free will in the first place'.

Previously I wondered about giving Space Marines the Shapechange (human) and a version of the Procreation Mutations, to try to let them adopt human form and sire children.

Regular space marines who haven't awakened their mythos can speak Enuncia, and I think they can also get any mutation, based on chaos space marines.

While shape changed, I wouldn't expect a space marine to be able to be able to pass on any of their gene seed based mutations, however they might be able to pass over the mystical association with Lorgar's mythos.

In terms of compatibility though, we know this:

Yes. Primarches adapt yo the planet. Including the people. For Lorgar, it is people with TDC.

We know we can build things, like the oasis that grant people the TDC mutation. This means that if we want to selectively recruit people, for example psykers, or people with desirable merits, we can dunk them

When we get to the Crusade, creating mini-oases in Lorgar's Legion's fleets' flagships to baptise recruits in might be possible and desirable to facilitate this and reduce genesesd rejection.

Can we not split up and each take a different path?

I'm pretty sure that Thalassa can make herself immune to mental attack and thus can solo the Path of Shattered Memories, after all. . .

Well, there is nothing stopping you. Just know that it will not be as easy as you think. Certainly doable but I will not shield you from bad rolls. This falls under high risk/reward so, as I Saud, if you want to try it you can write it in.

To further clarify, this is not suicide or insanely hard or anything bug has less of a safety net fof bad rolls.
