Not to be Homestuck on main or anything but I'm pretty sure rivalry is just its own separate kind of romantic feeling in both Trails and Pokémon.
Romance wishes it had what a good shonen rivalry has. All of Rean's love interests have to accept that they're, at best, second in his heart.

Erika is going to need to face some facts...

...wait the Espurr is a magical girl?
Depends how many magical girls are escaped scientific experiments.

As far as I'm aware, the answer is not zero.

I think we might be in over our head with the Espurr. I feel we have enough complications to handle as it is.

Edit: approval voting the rat, I like the thought.

I mean I'd say there's definitely synergy of a Dreepy (eventually Dragapult) with Will-o-Wisp, accounting for the mechanics of this quest rather than the video games:

1. Roland's previous battle losses were in losing the damage race to a stronger and a bulkier Pokémon respectively. Reliable Burn helps with both of those.
2. Roland should eventually learn Hex (I think), which is Dragapult's strongest Ghost-type attack, as long as the target has a status effect on (mechanics may be different in the quest, I admit). Normally you would save the Will-o-Wisp/Hex combo for a special attacker, but the physical/special split doesn't exist in this quest, nor does the 4-move limit. This means this "attrition" move, down the line, is a huge buff to direct attacks.

Just noticed this rereading the update. So there's no using anime material for this setting? At least the characters?
I think a lot of things that use anime or game Dawn still end up using Berlitz for the surname even if they don't use any of the actual details about Manga Platinum.

It's just the last name that we have for Dawn. It's that or make something up.

Is it possible for a Ghost type who has Mastered Phantom Force to learn Shadow Force despite not being a Giratina?
Precisely how good at a skill do you need to get to start infringing on God's turf?

Just don't call it Shadow Force until you're absolutely certain the Pokémon is strong enough that Giratina can't do a take on the myth of Athena & Arachne.

[X] An Espurr
Kinda mewtwo sounds interesting. Not that it influences my decision but both our friends might also be excited for different reasons.

I think Ashen was referring to Dawn's starter being a Chimchar instead of a Piplup. Just a guess though.

Legally Distinct Shadow Force.

I mean, if you're a mon at Champion level, you can probably get away with it?

Giratina might also be happy that someone actually remembered they exist.

@ArvisPresley
Are legendary pokemon capturable like the Ruin Quartet, might be worth keeping a slot open in the team if that's the case.
"Hey, Mariana, why do you only have four Pokémon on your team? Think of all the new battle strategies you could try with another 'mon. I'd love to have a good five on five with you!"

"Sorry, Nemona. I can't. I'm saving room on my team for God."

"... This is why you are my rival. Can't wait."

OOC stuff but Legendaries are split into two for the purposes of this quest
1. Actual Divinity. You'll get melted if you even try.
2. Demi-gods. Theoretically possible. Has happened before. Not with Pokeballs though.

I think we heavy commit to training up Roland for kinda gay shonen reasons and the gym to at least try for field exercise? might make us feel better abt the whole impostor thing. unfortunately managing bonds with Espurr is gonna be difficult cause we kind of want to do Espurr and Roland most weeks but like, I wanna chill with our friends as well
Edited for wording and typos

I'll do my part!

Espurr is going to be an investment. She most likely wont be ready for Gym 1 (Simply because she won't want to fight). She's not going to like other humans for a while, and she'll also be eating into our Ostia and Erika times.

But if Espurr wins it's kinda an investment we gotta make! When adopting a trauma baby you gotta give it the 100%! Especially Magical Girl Trauma Babies.

We're again seeing some dividends from eaerly bonding with Roland, at least: he needs 4 Bond Points to Bond 3, Espurr will need 9. If we're keeping them at about the same pace, we can dedicate one Bond Event/week to Espurr and split the other between Roland and humans, assuming that our action economy for bond events remains consistent (it might or might not). And of course there's always plot and random events, too.

Bear in mind we're talking about the next nine turns of the quest, potentially, so for everyone else voting for Espurr, please remember that a rescue kitten is for life, not just for Christmas.
