Should tie-breakers be determined via dice rolls or waiting for additional posts?

[X] - [Proficiency Pool] - 4d6. Studying is a talent of yours. You didn't skimp out on books in your youth and that shows. While not the best, you're certainly a better student than most.

I dont think i will vote for the next 3 votes about dice pool allocation as i dont think any of it really matters at this point, but i will be reading to see where this goes. That said, I thought the high librarian was a bit of a secret. (this is what I thought after listening to the first 2 books)

[X] - [Proficiency Pool] - 3d6. When it comes to studying you do your best. As good as anyone else, you can say. Long and dry books still get the best of you, though. Studying isn't your strong suit.

I don't think she was a secret so much as she was rather anti-social and thus didn't interact with the student body aside from the main characters. If I'm wrong, then, I suppose that's just a creative liberty.

She works with others, at best she would be an open secret. She's in charge of the Grand Library, holds massive amounts of political power, is the Known Creator of Liches, and people ask her to pact with her frequently enough to be noteworthy. Aka, too influential to be a big secret, and not secretive enough to hide it.

Pretty clear winner here, will be posting potentially later tonight. We shall see. Today's been a bit busy.

Throwing yourself into the test, you quickly make short work of the assignment. Most of it is simple, just basic knowledge that any middle-class person should've had taught to them. You know that some commoners don't get much of an education, but anyone going to Skyhold should. As for you, long hours spent with your head in books means you can easily make top scores.

Not that this one is much of a challenge, but it does have some deceptively difficult questions. Namely, about the nature of aether and its flow. The calculation to determine aetheric density is complex and somewhat obtuse. Still, you've got the answer down.

Judging by some of the groans around you, several of your classmates haven't paid as much attention. By the end of the hour, a few defeated faces fill the crowd. You're not one of them, thankfully. The official in charge of your group quickly gathers up the papers, sorting them and setting them aside for later. "Alright. Now that you've gone through the boring stuff, we've set up a bit more of an exciting test."

That made everyone perk up, and you all happily followed the man. He led you to a rectangular chamber, narrow in width but long enough to require you to run to get to the other side in any decent amount of time.

It seems an obstacle course has been set up, and not a simple one like the kinds you've seen at fairs and celebrations. Highvale has many such occasions, but here you've seen they've gone all out. Rings, bars, ladders, and tunnels fill the space. There are two lanes, each with their own menagerie of obstacles to overcome.

The man was joined by several other robed individuals. "These two here will be on watch, so don't worry about falling or hurting yourself. Professor Alheim is a force mage, and Vilina's a healer. I suggest you use your fledgeling magics here, if they are applicable. Otherwise, it's a measurement on how fast you can reach the end and back." They gave their own short introductions, and soon enough youths were sprinting down the hall.

You watch as people leap and tumble. Several are naturally better at it than others, while some use their own affinities to aid themselves. Forming handholds, boosting their jumps, and pushing things aside. It's a mad dash, and the leaders get quite a few cheers.

How do you approach the issue ahead?

[] [Locomotion Pool] - 4d6. Speed is life, and you've lived yours to the fullest. Whether it be clambering up a tree, dashing down a hill, or swimming through a river, you've done it all and with great vigor.
[] [Locomotion Pool] - 3d6. You're no stranger to childhood play, but you've never been quite interested. Sure, you'll play a game of ball or climb the mountains with your friends, but you've never put your all into it. You preferred staying around your home town rather than being more adventurous.

Whatever the case, as you reach the end, you suck in breath. That was quite the challenge to perform. You've worked up quite a sweat, and find yourself...

[] [Stat Boost] Ready to keep going. - +1 HP. You're well used to exertion. You've got plenty of vim and vigor to face the challenges ahead.
[] [Stat Boost] Sweating a fair bit. - +3 MP. Who needs to work out when you can simply read? Running long distances isn't your forte, but you're of average fitness.

I think you need to redo this one, 1 hp to 3 mp?

It unbalanced.

We have no basis for that assertion, and I favor combat over movement.

HP is more valuable than MP. You'll be taking less damage than you will be spending mana. Also, HP means you won't die. For the record, you'll be starting with 3/3 HP and 6/6 MP to start with. Picking one or the other means you'll have either 4 HP or 9 MP.

What?

Um saying who in there right mind would pick hp over mana?
Given the nonexistent mechanics, I'll show a pretty obvious example. Let's assume we have a magic missile spell that's 100% accurate and deals 1 dmg for 5mp. 3mp would be in our eyes equivalent to 3/5 of 1 hp, then. While being more versatile it becomes a debate.

Edit: That said yeah mp is the obvious choice even with this example.

The way that combat will work is that each 'hit' against the enemy will deal 1 damage at base. Likewise against you. Spending MP will increase your dice pool to roll against their defenses. 1 MP = +1d6, 3 MP = +4d6, and so on. You'll also be able to do attacks like a 'Heavy Hit' which would deal double the damage. Critical rolls (exceeding their dc by over 2x) will also add damage. But yes, MP is pretty valuable, but HP is literally your lifeblood.

How much of a role is creative use of our affinities gonna play in our battles?
And in locomotion challenges?

Similar to the way that Exalted works during challenges and battles there will be an option for a write-in [Stunt]. Stunts are special actions you can take that require you all to be creative and come up with courses of action that grant your character an advantage. So long as it makes sense. Unlike in that game, you're not quite at the level of a wuxia hero. Depending on the level of stunt, and my personal examination, you'll gain bonus dice to your roll.
