Oh right, this landmine.

[X] Deizil

Time to kill one bird with two stones. Both because I'll be more entertained to see more of him, and because:
- He never can stop himself from running his mouth when he shouldn't
...seems like a rich vein in this context.

Also it just occurred to me, looking at those mini-character-sheets, that including the fairly redundant information of everyone's circle of sorcerous initiation is... ominous.

It's the same template I use for all the roster votes, and usually Amiti is in there somewhere and I get to write in "Necromancy" and "Ivory Circle" for her as a point of differentiation.

I love the contrast of the people voting for Deizil because they think he's the least bad, and the ones voting for him because they think he's the most bad and want to see chaos.

One thing I noticed on a re-read is that whatever we vote for here will have consequences that last beyond just the immediate situation, but continue through the entirety of year six. So we might be seeing a lot of whoever we pick.

Vote closed, Year 6 01
Deizil stonks at an all time peak. Earnings have eclipsed one Deizillion talents. Earth Aspect buddies in magic school during the end of an age is a-go.

Doing a reread, and I wonder what is going to go wrong, an hour before the Jade Prison breaks.

Yoxien clucks his tongue — a distressingly human sound from a raiton. "Lover's spat, if you can believe it. Never try to be the one to break things off first with a Solar — that's some entirely free wisdom for you girls."

"I'll remember that," you say, tone dry. Not letting yourself be seduced by an Anathema in the first place is obviously more intelligent, but even the most powerful of demons have very strange ways of looking at the world, and their judgment is not really to be trusted.

"It also wasn't meant to be forever, I don't think," he says, voice distantly wistful. "She couldn't bear the thought of anyone summoning me or winning my affections. I think she intended to let me out within a century or two — and in the event of her death, she very thoughtfully left a clause that the binding would fail the moment her successor came into their power. But, well, some issues with that mechanism were simply not foreseeable."

Yeah while we're on the subject what do you think that guy can do to you if he's got your name?

Because obviously he's getting out that cage in a few minutes.

I think it's more what he can use that name to learn about you. Know thy enemy and know thy self, and you need not fear the outcome of a hundred battles.
Current as of Interlude 4, update 04
I believe this was intended to be updated with the conclusion of year 5's interlude phase?

It is inaccurate :p. Granted, I do not blame Ambraea for not knowing that the remaining goals section is currently missing her single most important objective for the next foreseeable future as generally speaking, you don't plan for the shit happening right now.

No, our real goal is Survive next year alive.

This tells you a lot about what a Dynastic sorcerer's role often is. A Heptagram student is building connections within this relatively finite pool of Exalted Dynasts here looking to become dedicated sorcerers as their primary focus. Amiti being useful for like... Knowing and being able to talk to sorcerers from other houses is kind of the hope. Cerec is pleased that Amiti has actually formed at least one useful friendship in spite of herself, and is even a little proud of her. The bar was low.
Hmm. I have to ask what her opinion is now? Three years later, Amiti successful enough that she is part of a particularly close nit circle of practitioners of sorcerous arts?

Amiti befriending Ambraea and the daughters of two different Great House matriarchs is vastly exceeding expectations in most ways. She has unique skills that are very valuable to the house, ignoring any moral scruples that might make one hesitate.

She's also become somehow weirder and more morbid than she was to begin with, and is even more alarming than most sorcerers are. This is a tradeoff that must be accepted even while it makes her very hard to find a decent husband for.

"There, that's some breathing room!" Amiti says, sounding a little drained while she undoes the rope she'd had tied to her belt — the other end is back up at the top of the cliffs, and presumably it's how you're going to get back up. She takes in both your and Deiza's appearance, noting the minor injuries. "Are you alright?"

"Fucking marry me," Deiza says, grinning at the necromantic carnage that Amiti has set loose in front of you.

Amiti, if anything, looks even more alarmed by this than she had by the monsters. "No!" she says, after a fractional delay. Then, ignoring the rope and the lengthy climb it represents, she leaps nearly straight up, carried by the same wind she'd come down on, landing on a ledge overhead, and then jumping again to the top of the cliff. You can see L'nessa and Darting Fish looking down anxiously at you
Well, perhaps she should look towards Simendor? Even if Deizil isn't an option, I'm sure there is some nice dynast with appropriate reverence for the necromantic arts to be found?

Hmm. Wasn't there some nice boy who gave Amiti a particularly rare book?
Amiti follows her gaze, already knowing which book Sai means. She pulls it out; a thick, leather-bound tome, frequently mended, the sad remnants of gilt lettering embossed on the cover. "Oh," Amiti says, "I finally convinced Huwen — one of the younger sons of House Daha-Ai, I mean — to trade me something worthwhile. You pointed me in that direction, remember? Incredibly prickly boy in our letters, I have no idea how I won him over. But it's a fascinating read! Please don't mention me having it to anyone important; I'm fairly certain it's proscribed."
Yes, Huwen Daha-Ai. He seems promising.

He's also from a much poorer and lower status House than Amiti. He's trying to court her for a reason, and her House would not agree to that match unless Amiti forced it or they truely ran out of better options.

Very mild spoiler here, but House Daha-Ai is mentioned in a list of minor cadet houses from a struggling region of the South where the Empress strikes most of them from the rolls very shortly before she disappeared, so his family is going to end up absorbed into the one surviving cadet house from the area.

Article:
Of the satrapies between An-Teng and the Violet Coast, only Low Yethrai — a wealthy, fortified coastal state ruled by the Immaculate shaman-princes of House Raden — still stands strong. Decades of Lunar assaults, Lintha raids, bandits, plague, Fair Folk, and other troubles have left once-thriving cities in ruins, coastlines denuded, peoples scattered, and satrapies torn by rebellion and civil war. Shortly before her disappearance, the Empress stripped cadet house status from two nearby houses: House Daha-Ai of Duneport, a grim lineage of necromancers, and the bellicose House Sunbird of Turning Crag. Sensing opportunity, House Raden arranged numerous marriages to absorb those fallen houses' Dragon-Blooded scions. While the house seems numerically well-positioned to face the Time of Tumult, its forty-odd Dragon-Blooded remain disparate and fractious, with factions scheming for power and prestige even in the face of growing threats to Low Yethrai itself.

Hmm. This has me wondering if Amiti is easier or harder to marry off than normal in the calamities to come? On one hand her talents are even more critical to her house and spouse's survival, on the other, paranoia and superstition is rising.

Now I'm curious how the heptagram is going to fare, particularly how the dominie will prepare for the incoming enemies.

Amiti is weird and socially inept even by the bad Dynastic expectations for sorcerers, and very likely to continue to mess around with some deeply taboo magic (her control spell is the one to raise a group of corpses). She's also of a strong Dynastic bloodline, from a powerful house and a well-placed household. There's a tradeoff there in terms of who wants to marry which of their sons off to a woman like that. Other houses would probably not offer their best sons, and would bargain harder than they otherwise might.
