Deedeequest or The Wonders of Mundus: Be Careful Who You Pretend To Be - A Genderous Isekai Quest

How Dice Rolls Work
Character sheet is here.

Dice rolls are 1d10 + Stat + Proficiency + any applicable bonuses, such as Boons.

You may spend 3 Tension to Overdrive for a retroactive +5 to your roll (a Determination Overdrive), or +3 to an ally's roll (a Teamwork Overdrive). I will also automatically overdrive to avoid exhaustion or unconsciousness.

It is possible to critically succeed (on +5 on skill checks and +10 on combat rolls) or critically fail (by the same margins), but rolling a 1 or a 10 does not automatically crit in either case. It is possible to crit retroactively by Overdriving.

Your stat bonuses have names:
  • Vigor grants a Strength bonus.
  • Agility grants a Dexterity bonus.
  • Spirit grants an Aura bonus.
  • Mind grants an Intuition bonus.
  • Resolve grants a Guts bonus.
Dice are rolled on a first come, first serve bonus. You only roll for Deedee.

Chapter 3.3.2: Attribution Errors
The inn was not as full as it was this morning. Even if that was far from hard, the elbow-room and the speed with which we could get a table was welcome - and the additional clamor had some advantages.

We met up with the other half of the party and made our greetings, ordered sufficiently quenchy drinks - small ale, juices, tisanes; with this many sheep around, avoiding alcohol completely in favor of water was going to be a great way to get diarrhea or worse - then. took a moment to catch our breath.

Then, Alesha told me, "We'll need your help with the Quinyones, Deedee."

"Me specifically?" I asked.

"You're a better healer," she replied.

"Aw, fuck," Sekhmet said, more a sigh than an expletive.

"How bad is it?" I asked.

"It's not clear," Siobhan said. "There's some injury - but some disease as well, and they don't want to talk about it. Maybe if you can heal one of them, they'll talk to you."

"Isn't this exactly what we thought the -" I lower my voice. "The enemy plan of action was? Make them too sick to work?"

"Assuming enemy action," Hikaru responded in a voce as sotto as mine. "But I think we can. There were more signs of monsters - and the Quinyones rely on pitchforks and torches, not wards against the fey."

"Fantastic. When it rains it pours," I sigh.

Sio perked her ears. "What other troubles? Were the Kosmas family fields attacked?"

I hesitated to answer, still a little surprised that my name back home was too bitter for me to speak. I looked to Sekhmet and to Ace, trying to find the words.

Ace snorted. "Anyone here know an Alesha Jeffords? How about an Akira Tsukuda?"

Hikaru's back stiffened before he straightened, his dragonfly wings twitching as he controlled a flight response.

"Thought as much," she said. "One of the adventurers we met was looking for your crew -" she indicated the four of us in Dungeon Crawling And Chill - "by deadname."

"No, not deliberately by deadname," Hikaru muttered, almost absently.

I blinked. Then nodded. Knowing what I did, I doubt his parents named him Akira.

"Probably our legal names on file before we woke up to the worst beach holiday ever," Sekhmet grumbled. "Man, I'm not sure that's much more comforting."

"Isn't it?" Alesha said. "Doesn't that mean it's outsiders looking for us?"

"Or hackers," Sekhmet fired back.

Siobhan shook her head. "I swear by the Fourteen, if you're brought up on charges of Personation..."

I took a deep breath and weighed our options.

Alesha's got an advantage here, being the one whose provided name isn't dead. Let's use that.

And playing to the local practices, especially in a world where we know the Gods are a thing on multiple levels, is never a bad practice... So long as it doesn't encourage unsanitary behavior.

Tricky. Why would someone even have files on the players? Are they trying to put together a list of who is still alive? And why?

It depends on the greater situation. We don't know if they have managed to get anyone into the game since the event, etc. and then the question becomes why us, specifically.

Oh hey vote's not open yet. I'm thinking along the same lines as Inc here, though.

I think we need to tread more carefully in releasing information to people with real world knowledge than in releasing it to Mundanes, as there's always the fig leaf of "adventurer noms de guerre" to at least cover the people whose legal genders match. That said, the fact that Piper's sources are looking for our adventuring party less Ace, specifically to me leans more toward the idea that it's Ralph than anyone malicious. The gang is not really anybody to anyone in the real world as a group, except to other DCAC people who would know them as a raid static. And if it was someone who'd been following us in-game, they'd have included Ace.

The Quinyones are local sharecroppers, right? Am I recalling that correctly? I think justifying things through divine knowledge is the right call there.

Our heroes might not know the answers, but out here around the gameboard, we've got the privilege of reading Interludes about what's going on in the "real world" of the 2040s. And the most recent such interlude had "Ralph" - our guildmate who dodged the bullet and was offline for the Crash - volunteering for the audacious "rescue mission" of hardtapping Mundus's servers and logging in to find out what happened.

My money is on that being where the names came from. What we don't know is whether Piper knows that because she's working with the rescue party, or because she's working with our enemies and they managed to get info out of the rescue party.

Thanks!

Ok, definitely need to respond somehow then, and I'm going to hope that if it Ralph we can keep our names off the list of people to be pulled out. But we do have info to share... Prob going to vote for Inc.

Agree with clerical justification as well. Might bite us if other clerics come later and go WTF, but it should smooth things in the here/now.

I'm not sure any players, and our primary enemies are the players, would be stupid enough to want to risk disrupting pulling everyone out of here. After all, eventually everyone's bodies are going to start falling apart if we get stuck in here too long. Too long without any use is damn bad for the human body.

The issue is we don't know if that plan has been executed yet - it probably has, based on it involving someone that would come looking for our group specifically.

Hm. I did some back reading and I think it's worth noting that the Quinyones in particular seem quite... opinionated on how to best honor the Gods. Other than Jatu, they're the only ones in the Dramatis Personae with an explicit mention of their patron deities, and according to Iustina, they resent Jatu for being... insufficiently Flammite for the job of "local Priestess of Flamma"? Unless I'm reading it backwards and they think a Flammite shouldn't be in charge of grain processing. Either way, I worry a little that, if Deedee tries to take a theological tack here, then they might see it as arrogant (insofar as a Vulpecian and a Sylphanite shouldn't be lecturing them about such matters when their matriarch has a position in the Auroran temple).

But then, this information is coming from Iustina and there's a certain amount of openly acknowledged bad blood there. So I'm not sure how much salt to take it with.

This isn't it, but I'm not sure how to address the misconception here without actually demonstrating it in character.

This is it, yes. They honor Aurora above Flamma.

I think I might have read the relevant sentence backwards.
"Especially the Quinyones, who hate us all the more for revering Aurora and Eranda above the witch of wine."
I was reading this as Iustina saying "they hate us in part because we revere Aurora and Eranda over Flamma", but in context it might actually mean "they hate us in part because they revere Aurora and Eranda over Flamma".

The second reading was the intended one, yes. Both gods depicted as human, I'll note.

No need to go all out here, but if it's Ralph, he'll know Alesha is the person to talk to.

I'm concerned that there may be some of the old el racismo fantastico going on that might affect them taking a Vulpecian Cleric of Sylvan seriously. At the same time pulling royal authority for medical advice might be a little much.

I think this is the only move. Even with the meta evidence (from the Dramatis Personae update when we met the drovers) that this is coming from Ralph and not from somebody who's beaten intel out of him, the right way to control "who is Out to whom" is to find out it's Ralph IC and then decide who gets what explanation of the situation, possibly with his help & advice vis how the rest of his party would react. Just because we're out to him doesn't mean we want to be out to Piper, f'rex.

[X] [MEDICINE] Explain your treatments and best practices in practical terms.

As previously discussed, I'm worried about the fantasy racism element here, and bringing the Fourteen into it or trying to throw our weight around both run the risk of aggravating that. But some explaining is probably good: both to reassure them, and to increase the chances they fully recover, and to avoid wasting the good Rapport roll we made for this meeting on a scene where no Rapport has a chance to be established.

Honestly this one is just the best of all worlds - if they are friendly just knowing Alesha is here will be enough for them to decide to make direct contact, since she would be much more likely to know where the rest of the group is (and even if not it's still one person found successfully!)

If they aren't they might walk right into a trap not realizing how many they are up against.

In a world where Applied Theology has demonstrable effects, "practical terms" can include "clerical ritual and what pleases the Gods", but isn't limited to that.
