My friend, have you seen some of the Terran starship designs in Star Trek Online? Look at this Gorgeous bastard.

I swear, if it turns out that Mirror Voyager looks like a Lexington-class I'm going to advocate for stealing the hell out of it, even if it results in the mycelial network becoming canon.

Harry looked down at Kim's phaser, pointed at his chest. Then he looked at Kim.

"I know you're me..." Kim growled. "Which means I know you. Unloved. Ignored. Overlooked. Weak. But not anymore. Unlike you, I-"

Harry stepped slightly to the left, grabbed Kim's wrist, shoved up, then snatched the phaser away from him. He stepped back, thumbed it to heavy stun, then aimed it right at Kim's chest.

"So," he said. "What's your plan, anyway?"

Kim gaped at him, looking down at his hands, as if they had betrayed him.

"...well?" Harry prompted.

Kim scowled at him. "I'll never talk!" he snarled.

Harry lifted the phaser and placed it, gently, against his other self's forehead. Kim instantly folded, his eyes screwed up tight as he sniveled. "Okay, please, don't! I...I need to be in two places at once. I need to give false orders to the Chief. Then, I make the move on the bridge. I start by phasering the captain's right hand woman, then, the captain herself. Then, with the captain dead, and with the Chief unwittingly inputting the data that I have created to the warp core, only I have the codes to shut down the destruct systems. The crew will have to follow me. Then...I take the ship and enact the orders we've been given!"

"Which aaaaaaare?" Harry asked.

"T-To follow after Sisko and his Spockian rebels. They fled into the Badlands. They must be annihilated for the Empire," Kim said, sniffing slightly. "They spread discord and evil."

Harry frowned, lowering the phaser. "It's on stun, you know? It won't kill you." He paused. "Eighty years ago, Ambassador Spock's lover, James Kirk, came to this universe. He told your Spock that Empires always collapse and..." he looked around himself. "And this room looks like it's from the 2260s! Like, shit." He walked over to the wall, rapping it. "Do you know how cheap this kind of plasteel looks? Modern plasteel actually looks like metal. And this phaser, it's like, fifty years old by my standards. And..." He turned back, frowning, then turned back. "Is this a Sovereign class? A battleship?"

Kim nodded, sitting on one of the bunks, his expression sulky. "Yes. Sovereign class Imperial battleship - crew compliment two thousand five hundred."
"Two-" Harry gaped. "I...fuck. What, do you need five men to a phaser bank?"

"Well, yes,' Kim said.

"I was kidding," Harry put his hands over his face. "You're still using phaser banks?"

"We'd have better weaponry if it wasn't for Spockian rebels always chewing away at the foundations of our society, and if they weren't helped by the perfidious Romulan Star Republic, or the Klingon Federation," Kim growled, softly. "And they have a new ally - the Cardassian Union. But we have our own cats paws...the Bajorans have been quite skilled at keeping the Cardassians under their thumbs." He chuckled quietly.

"...right..." Harry said, slowly. "How big is the...Spockians?"

"A small trifle. Pathetic. That's why we've launched the Fifth Fleet, with Voyager at her head," Kim said, sniffing. "If I could just prove myself..."

Harry sighed, quietly. He sat down on the opposite bed, regarding his other self. "Wait, how did you get me here?" he asked. "This ship has a massive crew, you can't have just snuck into a transporter room, right?"

"Oh, it was easy," Kim said, lifting his chin. "I simply replicated an ionic storm's energy signatures using the EPS power conduits in the ceiling, and then placed a transporter buffer coil beneath the bed. You were the only universe I could access, due to some...strange...dimensional flux around you. It's as if you're easily pulled between worlds."

"Yeah, I am," Harry said, shaking his head. "It's, uh, probably because of my girlfriends."

"Your what?" Kim asked.

"My girlfriends," Harry said.

"...you..." Kim blinked, then nodded. "Ah. Yes. The...mirror...copies of...my...girlfriends..." He trailed off.

Harry and Kim sat in silence.

"Oh my god," Harry said.

Kim sprang to his feet, scowling at him. "Oh you think you're so much better than me, do you!?" He thrust his finger at Harry. "You're not! You just...you just had everything easy, didn't you!?" he started to pace back and forth. "Oh I can see it now. You must have been born rich, to wealthy parents-"

"No one in the Federation is rich by those standards," Harry said.

"Unlike me, you never had to be traumatized by the San Francisco Rad Disaster," Kim muttered.

"Uh..." Harry said.

"Unlike me, you were never forced into the navy by overweening and overbearing parents. You never had to deal with unreasonable demands from...from vile, paranoid crewmates, did you!?" Kim spun around, his eyes almost bugging out of his head. Harry regarded him for a long time, then shook his head slightly.

"Listen...Kim...I..." He paused. "When I was in the Academy, I...kind of thought everyone was out to get me too. But on my first assignment, I got thrown in with a whole crew and...and you know what? I learned that you're only as good as your friends. I have them to rely on, every day - they're why I'm successful."

"Oh, so, you're a captain, huh?" Kim sneered at him.

"I'm, like, twenty two," Harry said. "I'm not...going to make Captain for, like, ten years at best. Okay, actually, ten years would be great, but..." He shook his head. "Whatever. You need allies, people you can depend on. You can't succeed by yourself. That's why your empire is using eighty year old technology and building spaceships out of the stuff that melts if you look at it funny."

Kim shook his head. "You make it sound so easy."

"Well, it's not! It took my people centuries of bloodshed to even get close to being anything better than...than...than...THIS!" Harry exclaimed, gesturing around himself with his free hand. "Now. I'm going..."

It says right there that diplomacy and empathy are blocked, so if we speak violence it might actually get through

Peace through superior firepower

Hold on, first let's find out why Kim decided it was a good idea to usurp the captain. Last thing we want to do is get strung along into an idea that he had been snuck by a more intelligent mutineer and end up getting caught in the crossfire.

[X] "...to ask you how exactly you came up with this great idea of yours, and what made you come to the conclusion that the captain is currently vulnerable to a mutiny."

re the previous chapter, because I was behind enough I missed the vote and the new chapter being posted but not so behind I anticipated that, resulting in me deleting my vote and commentary on it and such:
Well! That's interesting and unexpected! :D

(Also, am I correctly gathering that something along the lines of "Here's how to program a transporter to send you home if you end up in the evil mirror universe Timeline-2A" is now part of the standard curriculum at the Academy? :D)

during/after reading the new chapter:
...Oookay, well, looks like my vote was based on a drastic overestimation of Evil Harry, anyway -- unless he'd have been different if the vote had gone differently, or something.

Ambassador Spock's lover, James Kirk
...Well, that's quite a question-raising description. :D

You know, I'm reminded of a question someone else, I forget who, raised a while back: what are the Borg like the the mirror universe?

Aaaaaand:

[X] "...to see if we can enact your genius plan. We're going to take this ship. Then...we're going to give it to the Spockists."

I mean, uh. We just have a couple of thousand people on this ship, and all the other ships in the rest of the Fifth Fleet, to get around for that, but, you know. It would be cool if we did manage it? :D

[X] But try and be ready to leg it home if that doesn't work. Offer to take Kim with you, though.

Yeah, the mycelial network is one of the dumbest additions DSC made to canon - the other was the fucking "Burn"

Whoever thought up that shitshow deserves to be slapped.

As for ship designs, I jus hope the Universe class (aka the Enterprise J) stays far away from this quest.

- Pure speculation

Rather than their hunter gatherer lifestyle the Borg of the evil universe adopt an agricultural system of technology harvesting. Why destructively harvest a resource that improves over time? Diversity is to be protected because it is diversity that generates new ideas and technology. The Borg Protectorate is the largest political block in the galaxy and it protects an uncounted number of worlds full of diverse life. Planets, freed from the need to protect themselves, are encouraged to devote themselves to scientific and cultrural progress, to be as unique as they want to be as diversity is the true strength of the Borg. Members of protected species reaching the end of their natural lives are free to volunteer to join the collective and live forever as part of it, devoting the rest of eternity to learning and protecting the worlds they came from.

Each year more and more planets fall under their sway. Empires are pushed back. Democracies and federations accept the inevitable and agree to the Borg's generous terms of membership. The Empire fears that it is inevitable they will consume everything until there is no conflict left in the universe.

"We are the Borg. Power down your weapons and apply for entry into the protectorate. We will add our biological and technological distinctiveness to yours. We will adapt to service your culture. Resistance against the aggression of the universe is possible."

Radical assimilationists.

They meet you, and before you can blink, they've changed their ship to look like yours, altered their dress to look like you, and generally act as the universes most wnthousiastic and annoying tourist.
