Four and five changes the subject. We don't want that.

Three asks a question that probably doesn't matter.

[X] But why are they only acting on this now?
- This is the one that asks what changed? I think this is one that leans into Lavenza's strengths and knowledge.

"That does sound abnormal," She admits, when Akira tells her how his parents have been acting. "Has anything... happened, recently? Something that might have... shifted a balance of power somewhere?"

She knows Akira has his persona now. He just hasn't realized it maybe. So she's wondering if he has realized it or whether him having it by itself shifted dynamics enough.

Progress to Akira knowing he has a Persona is important because then there's a young kid with a Persona. Multiple people will want Akira with someone to talk to to prevent a Shinjiro incident from lack of training.

[] So why are they insisting their good people to neighbors who have nothing to do with the school
- This asks why the parents are doing what they are doing. Which has a few options.
1) Groundwork before escalating to try and have the neighbors on their side. Like sending Akira away for being a bad kid.
2) CPS is looking into them.
3) Someone noticed something when coming over more often after the storm and trying to head off 2.

Thing is I don't think we can do anything with this avenue even if Akira knew something. Distinctly adult stuff.

But yeah choice of 1 or 2 here.

Where the Corner Might Be
You think you understand the basics of what's going on. It's really simple- for whatever reason, Akira's parents have decided to escalate while simultaneously attempting to make themselves look good. It's a strange combination, but that's not the weirdest thing about it. "So... why are they doing this now? It's not like we're doing anything new."

If any of your arrangements were new, you could see this happening as a form of retaliation. But all of this has been happening for, at minimum, months. You'd think they'd be used to it by now.

"It might not be anything to do with you in particular," Lavenza suggests. "A sudden desire to exert power could come from many sources. It's just that, if their methods of expressing power are limited..."

Then of course they'll turn to hurting Akira. He's the one person they can always reach. If they tried acting that way towards anyone else, that person would just stop associating with them. There's still about a decade until he can really do that.

"Yeah, but when that happens, they usually just yell at me. They don't..." They don't do this.

"Because they were angry with others. But have they ever felt threatened?" And you immediately understand what she's talking about.

Shadows can do some pretty desperate things when they're backed into a corner. You're led to believe certain wild animals are the same. Why should humans be any different?

You... can't think of any threats that could be resolved by making Akira look bad, though.

Especially if he hasn't noticed anything being different. "I... wouldn't know if they were. They keep saying I need to be perfect for their reputation, but I don't... know what their reputation is. ...I don't think they even have friends." But then, apparently this is also something he's noticing for the first time.

You're not that surprised, though. You can't imagine people like them being very popular.
Bullies are less successful when you can just walk away from them.
"I don't think anyone would want to be their friend." If someone can ooze malice just by opening the front door, the only people who'd get close to them would have to be particularly oblivious, or just as bad. "Do you think they'd be able to put up with other people like them?" That's the thing you're least certain about.

"That would require finding them," Lavenza points out. "Which might require admitting to being that sort of person. I'm led to believe they would try to avoid that, given their recent actions."

Except they're so conspicuous about it.

If any of you can think of a better reason for any of this, you don't say it.

That's probably for the best. You need to be mentally prepared for Tartarus.

You want to see what the end of today's expedition looks like. That means you have to be part of the later part of the expedition, which means a lot of sitting around in the Tartarus lobby. You wish Chidori-san was back from whatever she's doing- she makes some very interesting drawings during Tartarus trips- but you guess you can't just sit around waiting for her.

You're already doing a lot of sitting and waiting in the Tartarus lobby. Though, there's enough of you waiting around that you can still find some way of keeping busy.

[ ] Morgana is staring at the same wall of Tartarus that Makoto-san usually does. He... hasn't done that before.

[ ] Aigis-san is poking around the area behind the stairs. You aren't sure why... but it makes you nervous.

[ ] Mitsuru-san brought her navigating equipment in, possibly just so she has something to fiddle with. It's been awhile since the last time you saw it, but you don't think she normally looks this concerned while it's in use.

Aigis went off by herself without supervision. I'm worried.

Boiling Point
Once upon a time, three children survived something everyone else did not. It was the kind of thing that would have messed anyone up, but they didn't see that. They just knew it was them against the world.

For the longest time, those were the memories Chidori held most fondly. They'd cared about each other, back then. Taken care of each other. And, somewhere along the line, she'd started taking it for granted.

Perhaps the line was crossed when Takaya held his first gun, as precious as anything, his eyes gleaming gold.

She'd asked about it, at the time. Been told that everything was perfectly normal, and his eyes had always been that way. And she'd gone along with it, because he'd never given her reason to doubt him before.

But now, thinking back on those memories, she understood the truth.

Takaya's eyes used to be green.

"Of course I'll testify." She was the one person who could do so for both the cases of Shuji Ikutsuki and her former companions. There were plenty who had witnessed one or the other, but they all had school, so it would be easier to send her.

And then she'd see what happened to them. What those consequences were, in the world they'd been part of but never knew about.
Another thing they lied about.
She wanted to see that world for herself, too. To know what she'd been missing out on, those years where she hadn't felt anything, and followed the only person who did. What could have been, under better circumstances.

"It may take a while," Mitsuru warned her. Chidori found that, despite her heritage, Mitsuru was a perfectly reasonable person. Likable, even. Maybe it was simple solidarity between people who could both navigate and fight. "I can arrange your accomodations, but depending on our plans for the month..."

"I don't care about Tartarus." It would be interesting, to try and paint the blocks and how they came together, but just thinking about it was enough to know it was beyond her current skill. She'd taken a color palette of the new block on the last visit, and for her that was all that mattered. "Just chalk it up as another thing Ikutsuki took from me."

Or Takaya. He'd taken a lot of things, too. Mostly her peace of mind and the lives of other people.
And those matter.
She just wasn't looking forward to that part.

Even with a sketchbook, there was only so much one could do on a train. Chidori spent some time looking out the window, at a world she'd been told existed but never seen for herself, but for a lot of it, all she could really do was think.

She still didn't want to believe that Takaya and Jin were no longer the people she'd known from childhood. Takaya had taught her and Jin how to read as much as he was able, which wasn't a lot, but it let them get started. Jin had sought out the best places to loiter, that wouldn't kick them out before closing but had interesting things to do or look at. One of them had been an art supply store, and... that was how it got started.

Not that they'd paid for the supplies, of course. They were orphans, and the Dark Hour was the ultimate shoplifting experience. Why would they?

She wished she could tell exactly when things changed from that. The moments when she realized something couldn't have been the first moment it became true. She'd been too willing to believe the best of them for that.
Would knowing change anything?
"...I'm not sure," She admitted, quietly enough that no one else on the train could hear her. This had been happening more frequently, lately. She used to just reach for a pill whenever any unsolicited voices happened. But then she'd been given an actual prescription, with a strict schedule, and she'd had to learn to live with it.

Sometimes, responding felt like more of a relief than the pills. She tried not to examine that too closely, but... "Junpei would say not to worry about it. I think... I have to, for the sake of who they once were." No one else would remember them.

She wasn't even sure if they did.
They won't thank us for it.
"I know. That's why I have to." The nightmare they'd lived through would always be part of them. None of the people they used to be would have recognized themselves.

She was just the only one who'd admitted it. That some of it hadn't been necessary- that none of it had, except that a group of scientists had completely lost touch with morality, and at some point, Takaya had embraced that. Jin followed because it was Takaya. And Chidori hadn't wanted to be alone.

And now she wasn't. She'd escaped that darkness, even after they'd been consumed by it.

Maybe it was because darkness was her element. She couldn't remember if it always had been, but it was now. If that was what saved her in the end... She didn't know what to think about that, either. "He said we needed to do whatever we could to save ourselves." Well. Before he gave up on it. "I'm doing that now."
...So be it.
She wouldn't say it had been an instant realization. She'd literally had to talk herself through it.

But she had realized something.

And, for the first time in a long time, she immediately wanted to act on it.

"...Hello, Hypnos." Takaya had been ruled by his worst impulses for a long time. She owed it to him to acknowledge that for what it was. Jin certainly wasn't going to.

"...Come to revel in my failures?" He said this, but he looked healthier than he had in a very long time. The prison was at least forcing him to take care of himself until he could stand trial. He and Ikutsuki were probably going to be testifying against each other, it just felt like something they would do.

It was probably a good thing that they wouldn't let him starve to death in his cell. Chidori never would have been able to ask this otherwise. "Why are you here? When was the last time Takaya was himself?" The only way to get the answer to that would be to ask directly.

Hypnos shrugged. "He couldn't handle being human anymore. So I said I'd handle that part, too. It worked out."

Did it? Because it looked to her like their little arrangement had landed them in prison. "Can I talk to him?"

"He doesn't want to." Of course not. He'd given up on the world long before he gave up on her. Why bother? "You know, you could try being like us. You might be happier like that. It's not like you're that useful without Medea-"

"Apate." Of course he hadn't noticed anything was different. He hadn't properly noticed her in years. Maybe not ever.

It felt right, that the last thing she said to him would be the name of her Persona. To tell him that this sort of change was possible, though he'd long given up on it.

Jin hadn't even been willing to entertain this much. Her last words to him would always be when she left.

She'd just have to figure out how to live with that.

A Closed Door
Makoto-san will sometimes stare at a wall in the corner of Tartarus for a while. He says it's because there's a door to the Velvet Room there, which makes at least as much sense as there being one shoved in the back of the mall.

You aren't sure which of the doors he uses more often, but apparently he frequents both. You guess that justifies there being two doors in the first place.

But the only person who ever stares at that door is Makoto-san. Lavenza doesn't come through this one, and while Elizabeth definitely knows it's there, she never actually comes with you to Tartarus. If she did, you'd take it as a sign that something had gone horribly wrong.
Or she wants to Megidolaon Makoto-san with a Pixie again. It could be either.
Today, Morgana is sitting by the foot of the stairs, which no one's really climbed in a while, looking intently in that direction. You sit down next to him, the marble cold beneath you. "Are you looking at something?"

He turns towards you, and then back to the wall. "I was just thinking... Makoto goes there a lot, doesn't he?"

"That is how he does things with his Personas." The exact details fly over your head, but the two of you have always understood that basic fact. "I guess he could just do things in the mall, but..." You guess it's more convenient to change things around somewhere he's already going to be.

"Joker used to do something like that, too. He'd go over to the side of... a lot of places and start mumbling to himself."

Akira as a Wild Card... you want to say it's not something you've really thought about before? Except... no, you've always thought the Fool Arcana suited him. He hasn't always agreed, but it's not like people need to agree with your impressions of them. "So there were a lot of doors?"

"...I guess? I could never see them, so..." His gaze still never leaves the place where a door should exist. "I guess we should have asked about it a bit more? But it didn't feel like he wanted to talk about it."

And getting someone to talk about things they don't want to is for people a lot more persuasive than a cat with wind powers.
Maybe Mitsuru-nee, but we shouldn't have to rely on her for that.
"Why are you thinking about this now?" The Velvet Room isn't exactly a new concept for either of you.

"I was just thinking... that one time, your friend said I was probably created by something. And... and... I don't know. It's just something about the color." And you don't even have to ask what color he's thinking of.

It's always Velvet blue.

[ ] ...That's one of the things his Shadow didn't like.

[ ] Has he considered talking to Elizabeth about this?

[ ] Well, it's not like you have any other ideas.
