I want my trains and that hope for a better tomorrow. Is it not the name of the Quest "A Life Worth Living For"? It's better for some to die standing and plant that seed for a brighter dawn tomorrow then to merely survive in bare adequacy!

Sacrifices must be made and a better future forged. Better to make our debt for suffering be paid now then later! The government already grown infested with Tyrants.

As for my Construction choice... The Trains must arrive on time.

Even today shipping by ocean and river are some of the cheapest ways to ship goods and raw materials. We should take advantage of that. If will take a lot of money and population to link the various population centers by railroad now.

Perhaps for the short term but establishing those logistical chains now will pay dividends in the future. It'll make expansion away from rivers and oceans much easier plus it won't just be trains used for logistics. Roads and transports would also fall into the "Industrial Logistics" permit. Such investments would also make exploitation of out of the way resources more practical. It'll set a stronger foundation for an eventual heavy industry boom too though admittedly said heavy industry may possibly be of lower quality starting off.

"All Civilization Is Three Missed Meals Away From Collapse And Anarchy."

Food is not merely one of the most fundamental building blocks of humanity, but one half of the duet that makes their existence possible. Without it, they die; with it, they have a chance to become more than nature adapted them for. It is true and undeniable that food, alongside water, is the most critical aspect of any society. And thus, it should not be a surprise that the government of Praya prioritized the growth of its agriculture sector once its starting population of around one million began to bloom into nearly 14 million within a century, edged on by pioneer spirit, opportunity, clever policies, and generous subsidies to large families.

Thanks to Glowple, terraforming efforts increased with every year, soil and Terran plants spreading ever outward from every center and laboratory they erected to control and boost their efforts, thousands of cubic meters of arable soil soon becoming hundreds of kilometers that could support agriculture. Provided they were carefully husbanded and watched over, of course. A watch established by a nation not eager to see what a collapse of its food production and resulting famine would look like, even as farmers and magnates grumbled and complained about the regulations and prohibitions regarding fertilizers or building restrictions.

And while farms began to sprout, and their products were being shipped back by trains and into the waiting arms of an industry slowly roaring into life within every established city, so too began something else to sprout, rot, and grow.

Graffiti of slogans and art began to adorn walls and trains, streets and houses, depicting politicians and questions, people and chains, the innocent underneath the guilty rising to the top. Flyers talked about injustice and the dream of their parents and grandparents being trampled with two feet, two hands, and a gun. Police found closed doors where before they had amenable witnesses. Politicians saw newspapers closed or journalists removed that asked a bit too much or too insistently about things they'd instead have buried for their liking. Some had had enough with the "Democratic" Government of Praya, their clear favoritism and cultural exclusion of non-Indians, and their near-total refusal to do more than the minimum to achieve cultural co-existence at the least. Those tried to leave. They now rot in prisons for treason and attempted subversive actions. Workers wanted more than what they were given and only got violence and repression instead. Industries began to be labeled as critical to the planet's survival, and to strike as an employee of those made illegal, while others saw wages garnished for the loss of production. Incidents spread around the planet popped up, myriad and manifold, of a thousand and one injustices being created, all disconnected, none of which the perpetrators knew another.

And yet, wherever unrest was, the government also noted a symbol of a clenched black fist rising, blue, red, orange, and white flames flickering within.

This could not stand. They had not settled the planet only to be brought low by malcontents, dissenters, and anarchists who wished for their destruction. Something had to be done. And be done now.

We spent the first few years dedicating major efforts to cultural unification and all of a sudden we have huge ethnic tension popping up?

You started three cultural groups, with the major ones prefering opposite governmental systems (Authoritarian vs Democracy), resulting in your choice of one (Authoritarian) over the other increasing tensions, your Cultural Unity Edict kept it under a lid and everyone working along.

You then did not continue those efforts, while also choosing projects that the ethnic group already miffed brought over, making it seem to them like a "We profit off of you, you work for our convenience," situation.

Now, with your Burning Hand vote, cracks that could have been mended over or ignored with another Cultural Unity round are worsening.

There are many situations where you won't know there are problems until they start goung loud, and this is one of them.

I'd also like to say that when you made the government, you made the [First], not the only or last one that will govern the planet. Even if Praya falls, you'll continue as its successor or replacement.

Edit: Also remember that unreliable narrators can happen when people and their views/actions/reactions are being described. Some may see a problem as worse/better than it is in reality.

I am going to trust the emerging majority. Hopefully the idea of digital watchmen leads to a free "internet" after this government falls. A sort of cultural pushback. Though that'll also have negative consequences but overall a free internet could do more good long term.

Is it a majority though? It seems a large part of it is ethnic tension coming from a (largish) minority that's coalescing around issues like press freedom and work conditions, and our government is basically what a large majority of the population was asking for and is used to from my understanding.

Oh no i mean in regards to the vote. Apology for the miscommunication.

Well that puts a damper on my idea unless I come up with something sufficiently bullshit!

The cursed blueprints remain sealed forever, never to maraud the world of BT.

EDIT: @HeroCooky I was curious about vehicle designs for future reference; what sort of rules are we running with for in universe armor? is it going to be the magical ablative stuff that can be noticeably damaged and degraded by 12.7mm machineguns or 30-40mm autocannons while still being able to survive multiple shots from 120mm APFDS without a full penetration or do you have something else in mind? Sorry for the weird question, I was just curious because I've been looking around all the math and arguments and stuff over BT tech recently.

Also how are we handling fuel cells and fusion engines, because according to another quest I was in it turns out BT fusion engines are basically magical and allow for such easy hydrogen cracking that anything other than fuel cells are basically worthless for mobile armored forces.

Understood, sorry to be so forward (I have a weird thing for low tech I'm sorry to be a bother about it haha).
