Kingdom on the World's Edge [A Fief Builder / Cultivation Quest]

Voting is open
1. They could send an elixir this turn.
4. Sending your troops into Lugong would be a bad look politically.

In terms of actual food sending a food caravan would provide more than improving the soil fertility, but improving the soil fertility would get them to somewhat stable state.

I left the embassy and the other organization creation actions in there in case you wanted to make copies. You can expand the temple now though.

Check. Can we purchase Mystical Elixirs for skills (or, well, one mystical elixir...we really only want one for Administration this turn)? We could make one ourselves in theory, but not a Perfected one, which is what we'd like to buy if possible.

So when do you guys wanna get started on Kid 2? Lil Chao is getting older quick, and I wanna have him share at least a little friendish with the next one.

Do you mean Leaf Cauldron? That's the general alchemy one. Iridescent Toxin is focused on poisons.

I did yes, fixing now.

I think we should wait until Chao reaches Matser. We won't have to help him as much then.

Spending actions parenting seems both necessary and difficult to do with two children at once, so we should wait at least a few more years to cut down the overlap there.

I've been a bit reluctant to work on this turn. I finally spent some time thinking about it, and I realized that it was the repetition of writing stuff for all the action including things that I have basically written before. So with that in mind would anyone mind if I skipped some of that stuff. Like making routine artifacts, cultivating, or what your organizations are doing.

I mean the more mundane stuff like making mystic artifacts this turn or doing routine cultivation. Things like making a super important treasure for a treaty or breaking through to the next level I would still give their narrative. Or for instance not mentioning the academy copying a technique this turn, but I would mention what happened in Xu with their politics.

That seems fine. A sentence saying it happened seems more than sufficient for the mundane stuff.

Okay actual resolution question here. According to my calculations Lin Fu will only be able to make High Grade treasures normally.

15 (Skill) + 5 (Soul) + 1 (School Bonus) +2 (Artificer) + 7 (Roll) + 3 (Treasure) = 33
Gold Treasures (21/26/32/39)

So the question how do you want to apply the foundry bonus. He could add it directly onto his skill for a +7. That would let him make perfected treasures. But then he would have to make everything personally. And as a master he would only be able to make 3. Alternatively, and how I was going to handle things by default, the bonus could allow him to spread his skill across the entire foundry, which result in 12 High Grade treasures.

The same question would apply Nuan Wen, but he can do Perfected Gold Elixirs even without an organization bonus. So it doesn't really matter for him unless you want him producing mystic elixirs.

Hum, i would probably would go with the quantity over quality, on this one the forge is meant for economic growth and arm our troops.

Also in case anyone is wondering how any perfected gold treasures ever reach the market given how far under the target Lin Fu is. It's because of taking extra time. With an assistant and taking two actions Lin Fu can make a single perfected gold treasure every year, and he's not the only master artificer in the kingdom. Also technically it's possible to roll higher than a 7 for an action. I just set that as the average for NPCs. So some perfected treasures will come out when the artificer was actually expecting a high grade.

For comparison Junjie had +3 artificer compared to Lin Fu back when he was a master because he has a pure metal spirit root. But pure spirit roots are fairly rare.

Ah! Is that how that works? I think we go for the full 12 High Grade, then. Though that should mean that the alchemy hall is still doing all Perfected stuff, right?

That's lower profit margins than we were hoping for on the foundry, but it'll be fine in the long run. Actually, given that Lin Fu can hit 34 with a +4 Item, once he hits his next Minor Realm, we can buy him one of those to get him to 35, and he can if fact then make 12 Perfected Gold Items per turn as long as we provide him with 12 Perfected Iron Hammer Elixirs. At least, that should work in theory (this would get him to 39 without the organization bonus).

Hmmm. That does mean we might want to rearrange what Treasures get made for who, though. We do want Perfected Priest for whoever is in charge of the new Temple, and everyone to have Perfected Cultivation Items (a total of 6 of those). I would've bought those and just sold the products of the foundry rather than give our employees lower quality items (this would still leave him making an Iron Hammer item for himself and weapons and armor for our Master level commanders). So yeah, 7 of those Treasures would've been bought instead of made in the foundry, but we'd still be making High Grade stuff. For now anyway.

I think if you feed someone 12 elixirs in a year they're going to have problems, but we can address that later.

Anyway title do you all want for Junjie position as Mei's husband. Traditionally it would probably be something like Prince Consort, but you can make suggestions. Longshan doesn't have any traditions here.

My assumption is that he wouldn't (and indeed can't) be involved personally in making each item given action limitations, with the organization making the rest under his direction so the 12 elixirs would get split up a bit more than that. But yeah, discussing that later makes sense.

We have Minister of Peace already, which actually seems fine...we're a Monarch, people aren't gonna argue.

With Li Mei out cultivating in the Wild Lands you take over her queenly duties of overseeing court. You admit to having very little experience in this sort of thing. Your court in Xian Gu is much smaller and mostly deals in tourist disputes and merchant woes. You are not well acquainted with nobles and their schemes.

Fortunately you have a plan. You dress in your heaviest armor and decorate the royal hall with all your many many swords as well the trophies you have taken from your defeated foes. You then carefully start sharpening your primary sword while you listen to the nobles present the cases.

The nobility is rather forcibly reminded that for all that they regard Li Mei as a barbarian you in fact hail from even further away. Far beyond the Spine mountain in some no doubt completely barbarous land. It also helps that there is a low hum in the room from the air splitting as breezes flow over your sword's blade. You can actually see half a dozen plots shrivel and die as the nobles decide that their affairs were really too trivial for a monarch's time after all.

Of course there are plenty of serious cases left, but most of them are more administrative in nature, which leaves you on much more solid ground.

After the court sessions are done you have a much more pleasant time organizing the creation of an Adventurer's Guild with Nuan Heng. Together you plan out where to place it in Quhan and how much land it will need for such things as a storehouse, guild hall, and training yard.

Fortunately both of you are well acquainted with the local itinerant cultivator population and it is a simple matter to put out word that you are organizing an adventuring hall. Soon dozens of warriors and masters have arrived and are clamoring for your attention. It's the best of both worlds after all. They'll have a stable patronage while still being able to go out and explore for ancient treasures and fortuitous encounters.

Figuring who exactly should lead them is a bit more difficult. But you are soon approached by Jiang Long, who presents you with a letter of recommendation from his Grand Uncle Jiang Qiu. The old grandmaster praises his nephew's aptitude, and given that he was once a respected adventurer himself such words have a great deal of weight.

You don't appoint Jiang Long on that alone, but after considering his other qualifications and level of advancement decide that he is indeed the best candidate. He is not quite as strong as some masters you have seen, but he is well rounded with a solid grounding in many schools. You believe that such flexibility would serve him well out in the wilds and more importantly give him the foundation to cultivate a wide variety of adventurers.

Medium Adventurer's Guild
Gives three Quest Rolls every turn.
Quest's aren't always successful, but provide loot.
Regardless of Quest Results produces Gold Spirit Beasts Parts x20.
Costs $370/Turn.

Leader: Jiang Long (Mid Master) (Water/Fire/Wood)

Junjie Administration: +1 TP

You return to your forge and produce a number of mystic treasures. You have several new grandmasters in your employ, and you wish to ensure that all of them are outfitted as befits the retainers of a peerless artificer.

Perfected Mystic Treasure: +4 Cultivation (Nuan Wen)
Perfected Mystic Treasure: +4 Cultivation (Cezary Wulfstan)
Perfected Mystic Treasure: +4 Cultivation (Aruna Kristina)
Perfected Mystic Treasure: +4 Leaf Cauldron (Nuan Wen)

Mei

Since she's planning on using one of the storm swallows there isn't any need for Li Mei to use the local Qi. So rather than stress Longshan's dragon veins she flies out into the wild lands. Once there she takes out one of the storm swallows and shatters the formations that she used to seal it.

The result is instantaneous as the area goes from clear skies to covered in angry grey storm clouds. Lightning begins to fall from the clouds as the nearby animals run for cover. Li Mei laughs and flies from bolt to bolt for a few moments before centering herself.

Landing on a nearby upwelling of rock she raises a fist and calls the lightning. At her command the storm clouds cease randomly striking the ground and form a vortex around her as the lightning combines into a single continuous massive surge that strikes her continuously.

This would kill anyone else, but of course Mei is a lightning cultivator. For her this is simply easing the intake of Lightning Qi, and with that taken care of she falls into deep meditation. This is the first time in decades that she has taken the time to examine her own path, and in that time she has accumulated many experiences and encountered quite a few beings that stand in the heights above her.

As she considers all that she has learned and seen she enters a state of enlightenment and begins to rapidly improve herself. Her primary goal at this point is to extend her soul palace. It is already well established and perfected. Now she must extend it outward. Once becomes an Imperial it will form the basis for her Domain. Under which nothing can escape her will.

That will take time though. For now she simply spends several months taking in Lightning Qi and examining her own path.

Lost: Storm Swallow Corpse: Lightning Qi source (4 Uses)
Mei Cultivation: +111 SP
Mei Cultivation: +5 (77->82)

Li Chao

Your son has shown an interest in leadership this year so you make him a set of toy soldiers. They have clever articulation and tiny formations that enable them to move in response to orders and the two of you spend quite a few days engrossed in playing out pretend wars. He proves that he is indeed his mother's son and picks up on strategy extremely fast. He can't beat you unless you allow it, but that's because he's only nine. In a few years he'll probably give you a much harder time.

Once Li Mei comes back from her cultivation she seems energized and in a fantastic mood. So she more or less takes over little Chao's training for the rest of the year. She uses the soldiers to show him some of the battles from her own campaign establishing Longshan and proves that she is in fact the best general in the family as not even both of you together can beat her with any sort of handicap.

She is also sparking with lightning and helps Chao to take Lightning Qi into his system and direct it around his system to get a feel for it. While the two are occupied you examine your son and note that his Dantian is nearly formed. He'll probably become a warrior in a few years regardless of whether he works at it or not. Which puts a time limit on crafting the first of his caged suns.

Li Chao Cultivation: +5 SP
Li Chao Caged Sun: +10.4 SP
Li Chao Caged Sun: +2 (2->4)

Nuan Heng

It's not exactly his forte, but Nuan Heng spends some time training his skills with the mud ball techniques. You fervently hope your best administrator and deputy never actually needs to use those skills.

Nuan Heng Mud Ball: +11 SP
Nuan Heng Mud Ball: +1 (5->6)

Afterwards Nuan Heng journeys to the kingdom of Lugong. He escorts a large supply of food, and does in fact end up using his mud balls against several groups of bandits. Though fortunately the escorts you sent are enough to see most of them off.

Once he arrives at the capitol of Lugong, Yězhū xī (Boar Woods), he has an audience with Empress Yi Da. She seems distracted, but welcomes him to the city and thanks him for the efforts that Longshan is providing. The food itself is given over to the Lugong granaries for distribution around the kingdom while Nuan Heng meets with several of the imperial ministers to see about fortifying Yezhu Xi's surrounding fields.

On his way back he stops at the Viridian Elk Tribe and coordinates with their elder in charge of mortal affairs to ensure the surrounding villages will be able to grow sufficient crops in the coming years.

Lugong Capitol Food: X5 for 5 years
Viridian Elk Food: X5 for 5 years

Yan Xiu

Yan Xiu retreats to the resort and closes herself in one of the caves with the most abundant supplies of Qi. There are perks to being a close advisor of the royal family. She falls into intense meditation as she studies the insights that Li Mei has provided to her on the path of fire and water. You expect she will improve significantly.

Yan Xiu Cultivation: +121 SP
Yan Xiu Cultivation: +11 (21->32)
Yan Xiu Breakthrough: Grandmaster (Early) (Turn 31)

You are pleasantly surprised that Priestess Yukiko is now in charge of the Xian Gu temple. The temple itself was not rebuilt, but with the more secular shrine maidens moving out the remainder of the temple has been renovated and reconsecrated.

When it was all done a festival was organized to celebrate, and it quickly spread throughout the city as other followers of the white anteater lent their support. Qǐméng Zhě even made a brief appearance to bless the temple and officially appoint Yukiko as the High Priestess of Xian Gu.

Spreads White Anteater belief
Increase size: Medium Temple
Operating Costs: $370 - ($50 Fealty)
Can perform one religion action

Your emissaries travel to the city of Xu to see how the populace is integrating into the kingdom. They find that the city has become a center of the white anteater cult with almost everyone believing in the ancient spirit beast's divinity. Given that you are on good terms with the spirit beast personally it isn't hard for your emissaries to convert the population's religious fervor into a better view of the royal family, by extension Longshan as a whole.

Though if you ever have a falling out with Qǐméng Zhě it will probably have the opposite effect. Of course if you ever have a falling out with Qǐméng Zhě you'll have other things to worry about.
