If true, then never mind my comment. I'm glad that we have enough eyes on this to not do any mistakes like that.

I'll have to check when I'm home. Right now I am just on my phone and don't have access to my notes.

Edit: No need for my notes, it is listed in the character sheet with both classes. You are right :)

No, Core skills don't necessarily have classes. You don't have a flying class.
If it help, here the part in the Character Sheet for that:

Progress (End of April)
Class Progress: 3/5 progress to next skill level
Runes Club Findings: 9/10 progress to find Castle Runes

Core Subjects
Astronomy
Charms
Defense Against the Dark Arts
Herbology
History of Magic
Potions
Transfiguration

Elective Subjects
Study of Ancient Runes - The Study of Ancient Runes is a general theoretical subject that studies ancient runic scripts. It is taught by Professor Bathsheda Babbling.
Arithmancy - Arithmancy is a branch of magic concerned with the magical properties of numbers. Arithmancy is reportedly difficult, as it requires memorizing or working with many charts. The subject is taught by Professor Septima Vector. It is separated into normal Arithmancy and Advanced Arithmancy Studies, the latter of which is taught as a NEWT-Course.
Magical Theory - A subject taught in Class 67 on the fourth floor of Hogwarts Castle. It covers magic from a purely theoretical view.

Elective Clubs
Duelling Club - A club at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, founded in 1992 by then Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor Gilderoy Lockhart with the intention of teaching the students of Hogwarts how to defend themselves in response to the revelation that the Chamber of Secrets had been opened for the second time. Though the initial club was not much of a success, it was recreated by Professor Flitwick.
Perks:
  • As long as you go to the club, get +10 in training Charms, Transfiguration or DADA
  • At least one duel per month, at max 4 duels per month (Experience and possible Perks gain)
  • Tournament at the end of the year

Hogwarts Ancient Runes Club (H. A. R. C.) - A student organization at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for students interested in runes.
Perks:
  • As long as you go to the club, get +10 in training Ancient Runes and History of Magic, +5 on Alchemy related research
  • ???

The exams will be had after all June actions. Then the spells & potions will be checked. Secondly, there is a general grade of for each subject. To make it simple: A D+ in the Character Sheet will translate into a O in the final grades for a third year.

Herbology & History of Magic are at the cutoff right now (D), but they will turn into D+ with the last class progress in June. The only subject at the moment that is not going to hit the O-exam threshold is Arithmancy. Right now it is at D- and it would hit a D by the time of the exams (Which is fine, I just wanted you to have that information).
From the spider charts in the Character Sheet it looks like a grade O grade in the electives is a grade D- in the Character Sheet.
Those charts are of course not up to date, but this bit is still relevant.

EDIT: I dislike trying to format things ><
An updated Spider Chart Other Skills

Normal Actions
[ ] Case V: The Search for Sirius Black (2 Actions [1 Action in May, 1 Action in June]) - There is a dangerous criminal on the loose, and it is your job to track him down. Sirius Black is a wanted man, and it is believed that he may be hiding out close to the castle. No one should get near, there is danger at all steps. You are determined to find him. You know that Black is cunning and resourceful, and you will have to use all of your acquired abilities and detective skills to track him down. With your determination and intelligence, you are confident that you will be able to solve this case and bring Black to justice.

[ ] Runes Club Research (Progress 9/10. Multiple Actions on this count as multiple rolls stacking) – Spend time with the Members of the Runes Club looking for hidden runes and glyphs in the castle walls (Will also count as a training roll towards Ancient Runes).

Just one action to finish

[ ] Random Encounter – Just… Go and live your life. You don't need to plan everything in your life out.

Balance social and work

[ ] Stage III, A Hogwarts Map (Multiple Actions on this count as multiple rolls stacking) – You are already ahead of what most people know of Hogwarts. The deeper you dig, the more you know that you're still scratching at the surfaces. What is down there? Start making a map of what you already know and see if you can somehow track the people inside the Castle. It should be possible, right? DC 400 [300] Hidden Obsession trait lowers it until end of June, because of increased need. X4

[ ] What hides behind trees I (Danger identified: Dementors. You know have a counter spell and some experience with soul-sucking foes.) – The deep Forbidden Forest extends around to the west of the castle. Everyone knows everything there is to know about the Forbidden Forest; it is a forest and it is forbidden. The rest is just rumors… werewolf's, vampires, monsters and spiders. All dangers a child could imagine await you in the forest. Why were you trembling in anticipation about breaking out of the castle through the passageway behind the mirror and exploring what had been forbidden to you for way too long? (Takes 3 Actions, can't be taken in the same month as Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea and Break through your Horizon)

I could be wrong here but I think this action would open up encountering more acromantulas among other creatures in the forest (centaurs for example) as a way to earn more exp and harvest venom

[ ] Overdrive applicable: In Search of New Spells – Search for a spell stun your enemies or hide yourself from them

[ ] Overdrive applicable: Brew – Brew a Blue Wideye Potion

Personal Actions
[ ] Do your research – (Antidote to Uncommon Poisons, Lumos (Deep Understanding), Point Me, Diffindo, Waddiwasi (Basic Understanding)) X5

Thoughts?

First of all, we have a huge bonus for Alchemy research and creation +30 from mind of stone, 16 for the attributes and skill levels, and +5 from the Ancient Runes club... With that +51 we can get done it in 3 actions with average rolls...
[ ] Do your research – (Antidote to Uncommon Poisons, Lumos (Deep Understanding), Point Me, Diffindo, Waddiwasi (Basic Understanding)) X5
I don´t really see the point of Waddiwasi when we can use Incendio Deep Understanding to throw fireballs...

And as I said before we should train Alchemy, that way we can unlock these beauties for the next turn
Ghostly GogglesMagical Item. You now have a much higher understanding about what it is to be a ghost. For a second, you walked in their shoes and looked through their eyes. They live in a spectrum of the world far different to yours, bridging between the here and the there as most of their magic has passed on and some of their soul stayed behind. You may be able to build something that did the same; give an item magic and then simulate the process the Grey Lady let you feel. Simulate the process of dying and give yourself the ability to see between the living- and the afterlife. [While wearing Ghostly Goggles; Allows you to see the spirits of the living; Gain a +5 in combat against creatures; Gain the ability to see a form of afterimages as footprints that living creatures leave behind; Gain the ability to see living things through walls; ?? when interacting with Dementors ??] (Requires Alchemy and Ancient Runes skill of at least P), DC: 400.

Which, besides having an extremely interesting plot hook with Dementors if we finish it before this year is over... It also buffs our combat, allows us to track down living creatures via afterimages and lets us see living things through obstacles making any attempt of ambushing us almost impossible.

@Fanhunter696 Waddiwasi lets you quickly attack with pieces of the environment, allowing attacks that come from unexpected directions.

It's enough of a Peeves deterrent that Jacob has mourned not having it a couple of times.

It might also allow you to whack a rat with something, or hit a werewolf with a piece of silver.

I admit that it has potential uses in combat especially once we reach Deep Understanding, but at this level, I consider it much less effective than throwing a fireball of the size of a head toward the enemy or cutting them with a magic knife...

And in the case of a werewolf (I guess that you are worried about Lupin wolfing out), we have an extremely easy and effective defense... We run away upwards... And once we reach 5 to 7 meters in the air we are totally out of reach...

I presume next year we will want to swap to hagrids class, which class would you guys like to drop in order to take it?

If that's an option sure, although we will probably lose more than one action.
Not really...

While you can't change your core subjects (Astronomy, Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Herbology, History of Magic, Potions and Transfiguration); Now that you start your third year in Hogwarts, you may choose three electives or take one action less each month to take a fourth one. Classes may be changed in subsequent years:

Just returned and reread this quest and good lord do I dig it. Is it bad if I want to make Neville our friend in the actions of next year?

Also, is the thread more along the lines of diving fully into prep for the Case or a bit more general prep? I genuinely cannot tell.

[x] Plan The Search for Black with a Map in the Forrest

-[x] Runes Club Research x1
-[x] In Search of New Spells (find spells that can incapacitate an/or stunt your opponents)
-[x] Overdrive applicable: Stage III, A Hogwarts Map x4
--[X] If the previous action is finished with less than 4 actions use the excess in Random Encounter
-[x] Overdrive applicable: What hides behind trees I (Danger identified: Dementors. -[x] Write a Letter (Free Action) – To you parents about your friends and the supportiveness of Ravenclaw, and cross-house compatriots. Maybe talk about the upcoming Dueling Tournament that you hope to do well in.
--[x] Apply Overdrive x2
-[x]x6 personal actions.
-[x] Legilimency & Occlumency x1
-[x] Understanding of Magical Creatures x1
-[x] Learning x 4 (Antidote to Uncommon Poisons (Needed for exams at the end of the year), Lumos (Deep Understanding), Point Me, Diffindo, Incendio (Deep Understanding), Reducio)

So, here's my plan. Taking the Case of Sirius Black, Runes Club to hopefully get the last glyph, a Random Encounter thrown in to keep Jacob sociable (the last one was pretty neat), the Map x4 to hopefully get it done this turn, and exploring the Forrest which may tie into the Black Case because Sirius may be skulking around there. He can't spend all his time in the Shack, so there is a good possibility he may be hanging around in the Forrest or somewhere else on the grounds.

As for the Personal Actions, the Mind Arts because Jacob should keep working on it. The Journal and Lake are gated behind raising it up and his dad even asked about the progress of Jacob's mindscape in his last letter which I took as him prodding his son to keep studying it. Magical creatures because this plan has Jacob is exploring a forest full of magical creatures this turn, so it makes sense for him to study up on them. As for learning new magic, the potion because Jacob needs it for exams, Lumos to be able to cast spells while being able to see in the dark (and the Forrest can be plenty dark), Point Me for Jacob to navigate the Forrest or really anywhere if he gets lost (it would have been useful for both the Mountain and Lake exploration, I assume it would be for the Forrest as well). The rest add some utility to Jacob's current spell arsenal in some shape or form.

I was considering training Constituion this turn but I didn't want to do so the same month Jacob was doing another heavy physical activity in exploration. Also, I think learning more spells would be more useful at this point in time. I was also considering doing Alchemy x2 to get the Prerequisite for the Ghostly Googles, but to complete them by the end of the year would likely require most of Jacob's actions which he will probably need to use for learning new spells for the Dueling Tournament at the end of the year, so that might have to wait for later.

Any thoughts?

Edit: Ended up editing my plan so that Searching for spells replaced the original Random Encounter. Also, made the Random Encounter conditional on finishing the Map first.

Also, just wanted to comment:
Morag, sitting down next to you, reached out to stroke the owl's feathers. "Aww, I've missed Peque," she cooed. "How was your break, Jacob?"

You shrugged as you looked up at her as her curly hair fell into her face. "It was alright. Just spent most of my time in and around the castle, exploring and stuff." She had shorter hair than before the break. You did not mention it.
That it was funny that Jacob noticed the haircut but didn't say anything about it. I'm sure it would have made her day but Jacob is also a bit clueless about what to talk about at times.

On another note:
Special Action, due to finalizing Case IV in time: Case V unlocked.

Case V: The Search for Sirius Black (2 Actions [1 Action in May, 1 Action in June]) - There is a dangerous criminal on the loose, and it is your job to track him down. Sirius Black is a wanted man, and it is believed that he may be hiding out close to the castle. No one should get near, there is danger at all steps. You are determined to find him. There is some interesting wording at the beginning here, spcifically noting that Jacob "finalized Case IV in time". It sort of implies that if he didn't finish Case 4 now that Case 5 wouldn't have appeared. I'm guessing because it is a harder case that requires Jacob to cover a lot of ground that it takes more time and if Jacob waited till May to complete Case 4, June by itself woulnd't be enough time to complete Case 5. Something to keep in mind going forward that the Cases might have a time constraint of some sort.

[x] Plan The Search for Black with a Map in the Forrest

Seems solid to me. I hope that by going with more magical creature study, we can crib some more Alchemy ideas from them.

So I vaguely recall there being some work to create a list of spells to research in the future, but I can't find it now so I might have just imagined it. That said I have a few ideas:
Silencio
Petrificus Totalus
A spell to tie someone up
A spell to purify water
A spell to locate water
The bubble head charm

A spell to tie someone up
quick google look up
That's Incarcerous
A spell to purify water
A spell to locate water
For these we would be looking for aguamenti instead since it creates water
And we can also blast people with it

The bubble head charm
This doesn't really matter for jacob since he has the mermaid's breath, but it might be used for bringing someone else along in our under sea adventures.

Two things...

We have more than 50 bonus for alchemical creation and research, so it is extremely likely that can do it with 3 actions...

And second Instead of going for occlumency and care of Magical Creatures we should train alchemy twice, that way we would unlock the Ghostly Googles for the next month... And since they are extremely useful (they buff our combat, give us life detection even through walls, and we can track Creatures through afterimages) and we can use them to open the Dementor Mystery box

I was thinking of protecting ourselves from bad air rather than breathing underwater.

[x] Plan The Search for Black with a Map in the Forrest

I'm enjoying the narrative synergy of the Sirius action and the map action

But I'm also very curious what animal animagus Jacob would be tbh.
Because of course Jacob is going to become an animagus at some point, it'd be strange for him not to with his character.
