A Far-Flung Hope (Warhammer 24K Quest)

[X] The Age of Unity
This is the most interesting to me and more unique than another choice focused on science

The Systems of the Besarife Federation (subject to a lot of change)
The Besarife System

Yellow Dwarf Star:
A G-type main-sequence star with a radius of 428,000 miles. Much like most of the system this star bears a remarkable similarity to it's counterpart in Sol. Currently has a meagre three thousand solar collectors orbiting around it.

Besarife 1: A rocky, lifeless world blasted with stellar radiation from the nearby star. At 55 million kilometres away from the sun it is the closest planet to the sun and an ideal place to launch more solar collectors and mine to make the previously aforementioned collectors. The crust of the planet is rich in metals, though unfortunately lacks natural deposits of Promethium and Adamantium.

Besarife 2: Your Capital Planet. A habitable rocky planet only slightly smaller than Old Earth at a radius of 6,289km. This World was initially decided to be a natural park/bio-lab, as can be seen by the numerous genetically altered trees. The world has 50 cities, each of which are largely spread out from each other, with technology necessary to live in harmony with the nature of this planet. This planet has numerous highly educated citizens with a focus on Biology, though there are plenty of other scientists of different fields. The only available megastructure present is a single space elevator which leads up to a small shipyard. Neither of these is shielded and is thus vulnerable.

Besarife 3: A large uninhabitable rocky planet with a radius of 8,157km. Due to it's extremely high metal content and numerous natural adamantium deposits the gravity of the planet is far higher than it's size would suggest. In addition its distance from the sun at 241 million km away renders it outside of the habitable zone. Still this planet can, with the right technology, become a mining world or even a habitable colony.

Besarife Asteroid Belt: Between the rocky inner planets and the two outer planets lies a rather anaemic belt of asteroids. It is currently unknown what it contains, but given it's small size it's likely not much. It could, perhaps be used to place hidden gun emplacements or bombs to the systems defences.

Besarife 4: A large gas giant with a radius of 65,800km 754 million km away from the star, complete with a ring of metallic asteroids and ice particles. It is theorised that the gravity of this giant slowly dragged most of the asteroid field into it's orbit. However this ring is slowly being worn away by one of the 12 moons of the planet, which appears to have a clearly unnatural orbit originating from gravitic disturbances coming from inside said moon. Due to this a full mapping of the other moons was postponed until a dedicated fleet of science vessels could be built In addition Besarife 5 also seems to contain life, albeit a rather alien form of life, in the form of packs of flying bat-like creatures. They seem to derive energy in the same way a primitive wind mill might, flying facing the direction of the wind. Given their presence in a gas giant and their baffling biology it seems rather obvious that these creatures did not evolve naturally. This gas giant is full of Hydrogen, Helium, Methane and a very small amount of Ammonia. Possible uses: a dedicated scientific outpost to study both the native creatures and the mysterious moon. Multiple refining stations to harvest the natural gases for a variety of purposes. potentially an additional shipyard (depending on the state of the moons).

Besarife 5: A smaller gas giant of only 29,000km, 1.1 billion km away from the star. Mostly made up of Methane, Water and Ammonia. The gas giant has 5 moons, all of which have little metallic content. The moons are between 3,000km and 600km in terms of radius. Possible uses: early warning outpost, refining station to harvest the natural gases for a variety of purposes.

The Ixian System

???????

???????

???????

Ixian 3: A habitable Ocean World that contains numerous underwater arcologies, marking this planet as a Civilised World. This planet contains all basic STCs as well as the 'Triton' STC, allowing for civilian underwater exploration and habitation.

???????

???????

The Weserite System

????????

????????

Weserite 2: An Agri World of the Federation, only recently colonised due to fears of warp turbulence cutting worlds off from the 500 systems. This World is a verdant Earth-like world which was once a Death World. Numerous Men of Iron strike forces and virus bombings left the world bare enough for terraforming to begin. This World contains all basic STCs as well as the 'Persephone' STC, an altogether inferior version of your 'Demeter' STC.

????????

????????

????????

The Bengali System

???????

???????

???????

Bengali 3: A pleasure world famed for it's numerous tropical islands and crystal clear beaches. Only 7% of this land is covered in land, and is thus an excellent place to begin underwater construction. This colony possesses the 'Dionysus' STC, containing every luxurious item you can imagine. Mansions, drugs, games, alcohol are only some of the things this database stores. At least your population will be happy.

???????

The Judas System

???????

Judas 1: An inhospitable tidally locked rocky planet constantly being bombarded with stellar radiation, making normal light speed communication and sensors difficult to use. Deep within the crust of the twilight zone there is a research base carrying out covert studies of the galaxies political structures, their weaknesses and how to best exploit them. It was slightly awkward for them to explain this to you. While they have no STCs beyond the basics they do possess a wealth of political knowledge and acumen.

Here is how the count currently stands

All Current Crises
Major

The Major Crises are problems that are occurring on a galactic level, some may not be affecting you now, but they will at some point. Even one of these would bring a powerful polity reeling. All of them? Refer to canon.

Warp Turbulence: Areas of space where the warp is wild and chaotic but hasn't yet broke through into the Materium. This Crisis renders communication and travel extremely difficult and makes operating on a galactic level impossible for civilisations dependant on the Warp for interstellar travel and communications. Which humanity does.

Warp Storms: Areas of space where the Immaterium has overrun Realspace. Communication and Interstellar travel using the warp is impossible in these areas. In addition the environment of these places is inimical to human life.

Psyker Eruptions: Strange humans have been appearing in the recent centuries which possess a strong connection to the Warp, much like the Eldar and other psychically gifted species. While this was neat at first, it could not come at a worse time. These psykers are highly unstable individuals prone to megalomania and other forms of insanity. Often the appearance of too many psykers on a planet means an incursion of psychic predators and the worsening of the Warp Turbulence crisis in the local area.

Rogue Artificial Intelligence: While the Cybernetic Revolution has largely been put down it is folly to assume every single corrupted Man of Iron and Man of Stone was destroyed. Indeed, there have been reports all over the galaxy of badly damaged and insane A.I. Striking at weakened worlds and butchering their populations whilst corrupting and enslaving their fellow machines.

Alien Attacks: With Tensions rising wars with aliens are becoming far more frequent with thousands of colonies and their precious resources being destroyed, further exacerbating the numerous other crises.

Aeldari Raids: The Aeldari have begun raiding numerous worlds, and not just human worlds at that, unaffected by the ever more chaotic state of the warp. Usually the Federation would be able to turn away casual raiding attempts by the Aeldari Empire. However with the ever worsening situation Humanity and every other race is left weakened and paralysed and so the Aeldari grow bolder and bolder. Before being cut off you had even heard they were stealing stars from the sky, leaving numerous species to die in the cold and the dark.

Quarantine breaks: Previously Humanity and the Rangdan worked hand in hand to contain some of the more horrific species and entities of the galaxy with a combination of the Rangdan's omnipresent fleets and Humanity's swift warp speeds. Unfortunately this is no longer the case and now the monsters are loose.

Minor

The Minor crises are problems that are being faced in your current area. This does not necessarily mean that there aren't other places suffering from the same issues, but they aren't as omnipresent or as dangerous.

Shortages of Resources: Due to the loss of shipping from the main federation numerous rare resources are not available. Without these, or a substitute for them, there are several critical pieces of technology that will eventually break down.

Numerous Unmapped Areas: Your colonisation of these systems was lazy and unhurried. You were confident that, whatever waited here, the might of the Federation would be with you. Now you are cut off, and you desperately need that information.

Hostile Conditions: There are many planets in the federation which depend on advanced technology to be able to function. Arctic vacation planets where you recreate the Viking of old on a lark, dinosaur petting planets, zoo planets containing every species from every death world. However when the technology to keep these places liveable disappears then they become a lot more dangerous. You hold one such world.

Unstable Government: You were suddenly cut off from the Main Federation and had to slap together something that worked in the interim and appointed a reluctant critic as the governor for 5 Solar systems. This is not sustainable and needs to be addressed immediately.

Technology Level of the DAoT
So, given that little is known of the DAoT besides a few ridiculous stuff I thought I should clarify what sort of technology level the Federation was at in Comparison to the Imperium of Man in this quest.

The answer is complicated but the average level of the Federation is about equivalent to some of the highest of the Imperium. Nearly everything that the Imperium recovered from STC's or kept working even without knowledge of how it worked was the most ubiquitous pieces of technology.

Power armour, conversion fields, power weapons and plasma weaponry? Standard issue for a federation soldier. The reason said pieces of tech survived for thousands of years in this quest was because they had to to be tough and (relatively) simple to make. Both of which are the attributes of something that is often mass produced.

Things like Auramite power armour and the weapons of the Custodes or Primarchs. Like Heliothermic guns or Grav guns were afforded to special forces. So less common but still present in a normal Federation system.

It is when you get to the big guns when things get crazy. Sun snuffers and Time-space eaters were rare in this version of the federation. Making them was costly and the mind required to operate it began at several Men of Iron working together. In fact things like that were designed by said Men of Iron so following the Cybernetic rebellion humanity lost the ability to make or even understand their top tier weapons.

So yeah, average levels would be: the best of the Imperium but in much better condition and then mass produced. At the start of this quest you will start with a lot of this technology, but depending on certain things you may lose the ability to retain it.

Edit: Note that I said "average federation level" if you pick Age Of War then you'd have far better weapons than even this, if you pick Age of Unity then you'd be far faster than the imperium and if you pick Age of Progress then everything I've listed goes up a level.

[X] The Age of War

Martial culture all the way! No aliens, it is not you who invades humans and commit horrors, it us! We are the horrors from the darkness of space, we are xenos who fly their ships above your capital planets, we are the one steal the population and commit inhuman acts, we are the dark empire that expands, we are evil of the galaxy.
