Ah, sorry. Wrong Primal Fury Stance.

How do we determine which disciplines we can take manoeuvres from? Just… any of them in the Warlord list?
They have to be available to Warlords and fit Roland's combat style. Thrashing Dragon doesn't fit because it's based on two-weapon fighting, Piercing Thunder is for spears, Scarlet Throne would be great but it doesn't allow the use of shields, etc.

Golden Lion fits perfectly for Roland for lots of reasons, but we can't mono-focus on that alone. Primal Fury has some good options that fit well, though, so it's a decent secondary focus. The Primal Fury stance that grants the Scent ability and movement speed bonus would be my preference instead of the one in my level up plan, but it doesn't really seem to fit Roland and is a bit too blatantly supernatural, IMO.

Iron Tortoise fits Roland better. Even if unavailable to Warlords, DP made that available back when we choose the Initiator feat

Something I'm looking forward to for Warlord Roland is the ability to use Warlord's Gambits, specifically Unbreakable Gambit.

Unbreakable GambitThe warlord makes a Fortitude or Will save against a non-harmless extraordinary ability, maneuver, power, spell, spell-like or supernatural ability ability. Unlike other gambits, unbreakable gambit can be activated as an immediate action. The warlord regains a number of hit points equal to three times his warlord initiation modifier

Any time he has an Immediate Action available, basically any round where he hasn't used one already or a Swift Action, he can use it against pretty much anything that requires a Fortitude or Will saving throw, and he'll get a Luck bonus on the save equal to half his Charisma modifier. That's only a +1 bonus for now, but it will go to +2 if we ever manage to get Roland's Charisma up to 18. It doesn't hurt that succeeding on that saving throw would also heal him for 9 HP.

Indomitable Presence is going to be really nice, too.
Indomitable Presence: At 2nd level, the warlord shines as a beacon to his allies on the field of battle, inspiring them to fight with him to their last breath. All allies within 30-ft. of his position gain the benefits of the Die Hard feat, and may add his warlord initiation modifier to Fortitude saves versus death effects, fatigue or exhaustion effects, or poison effects as a morale bonus.
Diehard is kind of a shitty feat on its own if you use an actual feat to acquire it (partially because it has the Endurance feat as a prerequisite), but to get it for free and to be able to share it with all allies within 30 feet is awesome. It helps a lot with survival. For example, back when we were in the Feywild and the Cyber-Troll chainsawed Esha, she took enough damage to be rendered unconscious and would have quickly died without immediate magical healing. While affected by Indomitable Presence, however, she would have able to remain conscious long enough to drink a potion or use her Twilight Barrier.

There's also the nice +3 Fortitude bonus everyone gets versus Death effects, Fatigue, Exhaustion, and most importantly, poison. :cool2:

How exactly could we get Cha up to 18, mind?
The most common way and possibly the easiest would be via a magic item. A +2 CHA item would normally be pretty cheap and easy to find, but enchanted gear is rare in this world and not exactly easy to commission. Magic is more common down south, so we might find something like that available on the market when we sail that way. /fingers crossed

Since we're using P6 rules, there is also a feat that can boost an attribute by +2. It's epic, though, meaning we will need to be level 6, and has another epic feat as a prerequisite, so barring being awarded as a bonus feat for doing cool shit, that's going to be a 10,000 XP investment unless DP lowers the cost of purchasing feats after reaching 6th level.

Doing both would be even better, of course. Getting his Charisma up to 20 is a really far off goal, though.

And this is also why I do not want to retrain at all.
Whole process of retraining seems alien to me. I am used to one character with his advanteges and disadvantages, and then suddenly he forgets his skills and become someone else (at least mechanically).

The thing o keep in mind is that the loss of say diplo skill would only be seen in aggregate, especially if you do not retrain all the points away which I do not recommend. For instance say you lose 4 points of diplo after all is said and done, that is only a third of your present bonus and a fifth the size of the die. That is not 'dur I forgot how to do the talkies' and more 'the character has gotten a bit more rough around the edges from all the stress'.

Thankfully, Roland won't be losing any social skills with his retraining. His bonus will actually be going up.

Speaking of retraining, DP, @Tomcost mentioned the Iron Tortoise discipline last night as maybe being a possibility for Roland to learn maneuvers from. It's not typically available to Warlords, but it would fit for him a lot better than some of the default options. Is that possible?

Iron tortoise is part of why I thought warder would fit him, as for just slapping it on Warlord at no cost I am kind of wary of it since I do not want to unbalance the character. On the other hand the style itself does not seem that strong at low levels so tell you what you can get it as long as you give up one of the others that would be normal for a warlord, does that sound fair?

There are ways to switch schools out, I can't look right now, but it is there somewhere.

Totally fine by me. We won't be using the other maneuvers. At least not the supernatural ones.

It wouldn't be a huge loss if we couldn't use it, but like you said, Iron Tortoise is hardly OP. It's fairly low power in the level range we'll ever be able to use it at. IMO, it's more fluff than crunch for Roland to use it.

Could we just swap it out with a different discipline? Like Thrashing Dragon or Piercing Thunder?

Also, one more Warlord question for you. The Bannerman Archetype doesn't get the normal Warlord bonus feat, instead getting Courageous Defense, which gives a Dodge bonus if the Warlord wears light armor and doesn't use a shield. Instead of getting that, can Roland just keep his Bodyguard bonus feat from the lost Cavalier level? If not, we'll never be using Courageous Defense so it will be a dead class feature and Bodyguard is something Roland makes use of semi-regularly.

EDIT: And I see you actually answered my first question before I asked it. This is why I shouldn't try to quest and take work calls, especially first thing in the morning.

To clarify, we could permanently lock off scarlet throne (noble duelist, no shields allowed), solar wind (supernatural fire archery, the obvious drop), thrashing dragon (dual wielding) and give up the choice between piercing thunder (spear and shield) and tempest gale ('normal' archery) to gain iron tortoise, and still come out ahead because at least we would actually use iron tortoise.

I've updated Roland's retraining plan to replace the Primal Fury stance with an Iron Tortoise one, and swapped out a Primal Fury maneuver for a nice Iron Tortoise counter.

Can we do this, too, @DragonParadox? Letting Roland keep his Bodyguard bonus feat instead of getting the Bannerman Courageous Defense ability?

[X] Arc Fourteen Conclusion: Goldfish Edition (Level Up/Retraining plans found HERE)
-[X] You have battled beasts and spirits, you have walked the realms of the tinker fey and faces formless spirits upon the back of their great kin, though you are no wizard you are more than a knight (Lose Martial Training feat in exchange for retraining two level of Cavalier as Warlord)
-[X] Zaia has studied the tomes of the assasin you slew and found them filled with accounts of powers and decoctions that he might know use for his own (Level Up)
-[X] Swift Pebble's daring has been rewarded by skill in subterfuge and stealth (Level Up)

Hmm... that sounds reasonably fair yeah, I do think that is very thematic for him.
Cool, that is the last piece I needed to finalize the retraining build.

This arc might not have contributed to Roland's next level up, but it marks a significant improvement in his overall capabilities. It's a good example of quality over quantity.

With Zaia going to 4th level, we just need to get Antonio involved in more action for his next level up and eventual psionic growth to keep the Fellowship in relative parity.

Longswords are heavy blades.
The favoured weapon just adds +2 to ability DC when using that discipline, though (According to the internet).
