If we're aiming for a cult that starts out wanting nice stuff, then... what about reaching out to the four in the hope of assistance against the Tyrant Emperor, and in the belief that they will raise the cult, and then everyone else up into the warp to be as them: free.

Free from society's chains. Free from the limitations of a material existence. Free from caring about any consequences. Free from all self restraint. Free from logic and causality.

Just a suggestion of the kind of false promise the four might make in an attempt to lure people to them

(But that's... I don't know the term. Salvationist? That's wanting to be given better later. Which does not resonate with me personally. So maybe the four could also promise to help in little ways to make things a bit less shitty in the mean time? Tiny drips of hope to keep the cult in line.

(Just spitballing. I feel kinda dirty typing this)

Edit: 2real4me. nopeeee, do not want

It's a good idea, but I'd feel to dirty playing it. Either a cult with an actual upside, or a full on terror cult, that kind of hollow inbetween I find uncomfortable.

(We are in the end evil in any case, it's 40K, but that kinda built on lies and existential nonsense thing squicks me out even in villains.)

That's fine, you don't have to like what you are saying, if its for the quest
wow.
um.

you using this quest for a practice run for a cult or something lol? 'cuz that was legitimately a little bit disturbing on first glance, and on second thought became a tiny bit... even more disturbing.

something something, experiences change us, something something be careful what we pretend to be.

...Please don't try to put me at ease again, I fear that I'll be reminded of this moment.

I think it was the lie at the core of it that made me feel dirty, using people's hopes and desire for better for one's aims, and there never having been a point in which those desires were intended to be realised. I asked "what might suck me in" and added 40k grimdark. Maybe I should have avoid stuff that resonates with me when coming up with cult ideas.

Kinda regret suggesting it now :/

Whatever we do, no matter what sacrifices we make, all this cannot be compared with one Russian-language Bleach fanfic, where the torture scene was written for 5 pages and even I, a very loyal person to such content, was horrified. I did not finish the scene, I was shivering in the middle. The author was a master of the word, I have never been SO bad from reading.

So do what you want, it won't get any worse.

OKAY NO
NO PLANS FOR A CULT
I'M TOO BUSY

I think I should've explained myself better.
If you want to suggest something like, human trafficking for income, but rightfully dislike it, thats fine. It can be something that is done in the quest, even if we all look it and go "That's f*cked up".
There are limits to what I'll allow, but I can be flexible. Chaos leading people slowly into worse and worse decisions is on brand and grand.

So do what you want, it won't get any worse.
That does sound very disturbing, and I promise I'll never do anything even remotely like that.

I think it's a brilliant idea.

Also I think we should have more actual votes

Also also my previous suggestion counts as a vote right?

Yea it does.

Also can I get some more love for Plan Ascension? I think I've explained what it's about quite a bit by now, but I'd love to hear some thoughts.

If we go for that I think we should go with Slaanesh as our primary deity. It fits with the Old Aeldari feel since they gave birth to Slaanesh and their civ was basically devoted to deviancy and pleasure in every way.

Nah, the way I wrote it we think they drew on all of chaos to reach their height, with suspicions that they may have fallen because they leaned too much into just one deity.

I wanted to make sure it matched our voted Undivided focus.

I feel like our cult should pick and choose what aspects of our gods we should show to potential members. We could for example omit certain negative aspects of the chaos gods in favor of their more positive ones (slaanesh=excellence, khorne=honor, justice, nurgle=life, happiness, tzeentch=innovation). Once they get too entangled/high up in the leadership in the cult to leave, we induct them with the more... controversial aspects of them. It's insidious and borrows from what actual cults in the real world do.

A world registered as a victory but never appeared in the files for the Subsector, a note requiring the seizure of all crates with a symbol. She found herself getting obsessed as the symbols grew closer to their final shape and in her search she found allies, people who have started to see the grand design more made from the unseens then the seen. They don't know what they search for but their getting closer, day by day, page by page.
