Don't Miss Your Deadline! (Manga Editor Quest)

[x]Plan Networking, vampire and study

Nice quest so far. I'm liking it.

Checking the company website, you couldn't help wincing at how dated the design looked. As an employee, you'd naturally get to login and view everything for free, but the average reader had to deal with all sorts of annoying pop ups and adverts before they could see their favorite manga.
By dated are we talking 10 years ago or 20 years ago?
Don't suppose that's something we can eventually try to fix once we get the ear of someone important. Place the ads better and stop annoying people. Because ease of access is highly important. If people are too frustrated with the interface then they're just going to spend their time on something easier.
You opened up the latest volume, resisting the urge to groan as it slowly loaded. Didn't you already scan all the pages for printing? Why did this look like someone had taken a printed copy, then scanned it all in one page at a time into a pdf?
Now there's a snag in production. Why are we using physical scans of our own magazine when we have high-quality files already within the company database? Knowing company culture it's probably because doing so would require them to spend money somewhere.

People aren't dumb. They notice shit like that. The offical release on the company site shouldn't look like something off a scanlation site. If you take the effort to improve quality, looks, and ease of access, people will notice and they'll use it more.

Of course the site sucks probably because the higher ups view the internet releases as a side project while the physical release is the main one.
That's a pretty common problem. It's only in the last few years manga companies have been paying more attention to internet releases rather than physical books.
  • Focus more on the daughter and add more ecchi elements (Assistant Editor in Chief)
Gotta nip this in the bud. Last thing I want is to find out Vampire mangaka is basing the whole thing on his own relationship with his daughter.

I feel the whole series is kinda misplaced in a shounen magazine. It also feels like it might get repetitive if the whole thing relies on father/daughter misunderstandings on the vampire issue. Honestly would have fit better if she actually was a vampire or knew an actual vampire.

I have, what I think, is a pretty good idea for a future manga if we happen to expand any future Manga in the future.

If you mean a pretty good idea for a NEW manga, this is not that kind of quest.

We're an editor. We edit the works of other mangaka, and deal company bureaucracy. We help improve their manga by giving advice, but we don't come up with the manga themselves.

EDIT: uh. we have a tie right now. I disagree with the topic of the research action, but other than that I like it

Welcoming the new guys and meeting Aoki are a must for me this turn.

I chose this one because I find the Big 3 a more fundamental piece of experience than the other Sunday series. And because I really want to do damage control with the idiot superior (nabbing his position for us is a must). Much as I want to talk with Morita's parents, the assistant is likely to cause trouble worse than losing a newbie mangaka (this is an exaggeration, I don't think we'll lose Morita so easily when he's a nobody and we did give him his first chance). Still, meeting him next time is a must.

I actually used a random anime title generator to create most of these.
Out of curiosity, which specific one are you using?

It basically looks like a kid's site from the 00s. So something like this:

In the future you may have a chance to bring it up with the board. Convincing them to fix the site will definitely cost a good chunk of Favor ("It's always worked fine before. Why should we pay to change it now?"), but if you can do it it'll increase your popularity dice because more people will come to read your stuff. So instead of 2d6 you may start rolling 2d8, 2d10, etc. instead.

I've got a couple saved in my notes. Here's the ones I used earlier:
If you guys have any similar generators you'd like to share, just pass me a link and I'll add it to my notes.

Well. Now we have a clear incentive to curry favor with tbe Board, because a website update is good civilization.

kill it with fire!

Yeah, this is DEFINITELY a good use of favour. late 90s/early 2000s websites are HORRIBLY outdated today, and this is supposed to be a few years into the future!

Of course JAPAN, the country with the oldest population AND the oldest company leaders, would fail to understand that...

I'm even slightly surprised they have a website in the first place.

a few decent examples for how this kind of website should work... well, the obvious one is Mangaplus from Shueisha. It's our main rival too, so it's just common sense to learn from what they're doing well!

Other examples... well, streaming websites might count for the design. Maybe even a quick look to the pirate websites, to see what the pirates are used to take it as a baseline of what we should try to accomplish

Pretty cool looking quest in my opinion, shame that a few of the manga I was interested in didn't win but ah well, the ones chosen were also ones I was interested in. So basically to many options not enough choices :p

As for this, a reminder that Shonen is not just DBZ and Naruto. It's a targeted audience. Also, you've clearly never seen 99.99% of manga if you think people will find this 'repetative'

I need to ask, what course did Maeda pick in college? Also how well did he do as a student.

Haven't actually considered that before. I'd say that he got a business degree due to family expectations and was an above average but not particularly exceptional student because he spent more time socializing than studying.

16 to 16. people not voting for the top 2 plans should probably decide which one they like the most (or which one they hate the least, I suppose)

Urggggh, this pains me, I don't really dig either of the top two plans… don't wanna be a deciding vote for a plan I don't even like!

That said… if I absolutely had to choose it's gotta be this one.

[X]Plan Knowing our Team

I'd be completely down for it if it changed the research action towards Trending or the Big Three, but I suppose it's okay enough.
