There was a Spi...dea. (Sony, Spider-Man Producer Quest)

I got an idea. Are there any characters we can acquire and turn into the Sony Cinematic Universe's version of Captain America? I like the idea of a darker interpretation of that sort of patriotic superhero. Like the idea that someone who is considered a hero in the forties might not be considered a hero today.
This is a technicality on an account they only exist in the '90s cartoon, but...Keen Marlowe's Destroyer, but he'd have to go by a different [super] name if we wanted to use him.

But we don't even need to go there, we already have Green Goblin and Sin Eater [wait...he's dead, right?], who can already be used to tell that kind of story.

Yes, but then we wouldn't have a darker take on the whole "fish out of temporal water" situation. Or an equivalent to Marvel's super-soldier program. It would fill out the history of this unique universe we're creating.

And I think that creating original characters might be a good way to fill in the gaps between all the characters we currently have rights for and the ones we will be getting the rights for in the future.

We own a whole host of characters that don't require us inventing a new character, chief among them being Deadpool, if we wanted to go down that sort of road.

For example, we can use a tweaked version of the OTL movie that isn't set in the modern day, but in the '60/70s, so that it's easier to pull off the Rip Van Winkle treatment (he's experimented on for much longer maybe?); not to mention, we could swap Vanessa [Copycat] for Mystique, given their similar appearances and powers.

57- Box Office and Reception: Iron Fist. (July 4th, 2013)

Iron Fist.

"You can't beat me. Want to know why? It's because I'm the Immortal Iron Fist!"

Directed By: Jackie Chan.

Starring: Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Munn, Brian Tee.

Critic Score: 14

Audience Score: 95

Critic Buzz: 18.

Fandom Buzz: 101.

Well, you haven't seen such a difference in critic and fan opinion on one of your movies...

You had started work on the film in late December, and gotten it out in July of the next year.

Seven months was... practically nothing, thank goodness for the speedy production. You'd even made sure it'd be out on the 4th of July, to try and get more movie-goers domestically.

The critics had utterly panned the movie, saying that it was just a generic action movie, and expressing confusion over Shredder being in the movie as one of the main villains.

The fans, on the other hand, loved the fast-paced action, the good story, and had gone absolutely crazy when Shredder had shown up as one of the main villains.

It was honestly odd to see such a difference of opinion, and the fans full-on convinced that the critics were completely wrong.

The fans loved Garrett Hedlund who returned as Iron Fist, enjoying his performance, while the critics had a very noticable silence about it.

Madame Gao and Shredder were loved by the fans, the same could be said for most of the characters within the movie.

The critics made up for this, by practically screeching about the 'terrible performance' of Sofia Boutella, which you felt was completely unwarrented. The fans did too, as you saw swarms of them dogpiling on these so-called 'critics', for their reviews, even though they did admit that Sofia's performance was somewhat bland, but not anywhere near the trainwreck the critics described it as.

And if an average performance was all that they were complaining about, then there had to be something else going on, for them to give such low reviews.

And after a while of looking into it?

Well, you saw that Warner Bros had quite a few of those critics on their payroll, having sponsored or outright bribed them for more favorable reviews for themselves, and lower reviews for all of the competition.

Sure, there were a few unrelated critics who just didn't like comic book movies, but the vast majority? They were on the payroll.

Would this count as corporate espionage? Or something along those lines?

Might have to call some company lawyers, you knew that the higher-ups at Sony were pissed at this as well.

But now, looking away from... that.

It was time to get a look at the box office results of Iron Fist.

Domestic Box Office: $230,324,536.
International Box Office: $321,325,123.
Merchandise: $63,142,259.
_____
Total Box Office: $614,691,918.
Production Budget: $85,000,000.
_____
Final Box Office: $529,691,918.

$500 million dollars?

That was definitely good, even with the attempted sabotage from the Warner Bros owned critics.

Now, it was time to get to work on Spider-Man 2. Thankfully, you had a few ideas in mind for the movie.

Mid-Credit Scene: Spider-Man is shown to be swinging across New York City, before being attacked from out of nowhere, causing him to dodge out of the way.

Post-Credit Scene: The Shredder is shown to be in the midst of consolidating his powerbase, to eventually take over The Hand.

Cameo: Stan Lee is one of the unnamed members of The Hand.
_____

Alright, so... that was a surprisingly low roll for critics, wasn't it?

What's Black Fox doing here I wonder?

Fanbase: Holy shit, that's the whole reason for the conflict between him and Felicia! He wasn't trying to sell it to the highest bidder, he was going to give it to Madame Gao and further the Hand's nefarious agenda!

Writer's Room: 'We were trying to be funny- ow!' 'Nevermind that you imbecile, write that down, write that down!!'

So, we have Peter teased at Collage, and Spider-Man being surprised by at attack.

So who can surprise our web-crawler?

Kraven? Someone who can fly like Green Goblin and Vulture? Spider bots? Spider-clones?

General plans were to at least have Harry Osborn showing up, but having him be a friend for an entire film will make a future Green Goblin plot more emotional (that is, Harry in the film, but no Green Goblin arc yet).

I'm of a mind to have Vulture be the primary antagonist, railing against OsCorp for stealing his research into an electromagnetic harness for his flight suit [implied that it's being repurposed for the Goblin Glider], before pulling a similar gutpunch to Homecoming in that the audience isn't expecting the reveal there's a personal connection between Adrian Toomes and Peter Parker.

Like, it's set up ahead of time that Peter's going over to the house of one of Uncle Ben's old army buddies and he kinda knows them through one of his dormmates [Liz/Mark Allen, doesn't matter which] by virtue of the fact they basically grew up together, Uncle Ben and Adrian Toomes having arranged numerous playdates for an excuse to hang out together; it isn't until Toomes opens the door that the audience realizes the two storylines are far more connected than they realized.

Since we set Harry Osborn up to be Peter's RA, I figure that we should play off that, like Harry's not one for the traditional RA meetings and instead takes the guys he's in charge of to one of any number of events, like basketball, bowling or even the arcade in lieu of a standard circle chat; by doing that, we can also tease other characters and future storylines, such as Mark [Raxton] Allen, Randy Robertson, Cole McGrath, etc. We could even reference this at the end of the movie, when we do the stinger for inFamous in that most of the group wouldn't have been caught up in the Ray Sphere Explosion if they hadn't been meeting up on the outer edges of the blast.

Additionally, we could run with the idea that Harry has absolutely no idea of whatever current goings on of OsCorp, partly because he's at school [focusing on his grades and duties] and partly because Norman does not want to worry Harry about what's going on, something that kinda backfires when Vulture tears through the nearby area and Harry's left incensed that his dad didn't let him know he might be in danger.

Just caught up and this is pretty great so far, thought I've always been a fan of Black Cat/Spider-man so having both and not being able to put them together since all the audience love Gwen is a little annoying. :p

58- Spider-Man 2 Plot Vote.
Alright, now it was time to get straight to work on Spider-Man 2!

First of all, you had to figure out a plot for the movie.

You already teased Peter in college, so this would more than likely have to be set in his first year of college.

Now, you had to figure out what to do for the plot.

What sort of plot do you want for Spider-Man 2?

[] Peter has recently begun college, and been going through it fairly well, even forming a bond with one of his professors, a Dr. Curtis Connors, this is before a mysterious foe called The Lizard shows up, and starts wreaking havoc in New York City, it's now up to Peter to find out who this Lizard is, and put a stop to them!
[] Having just started college, Peter Parker must now contend with all the problems of being a young adult and a superhero. Not only does he have to adjust to his new workload at school but with Vulture cropping up all across the city, attacking various OsCorp facilities, clearing looking for something...at least when he's with his friends he feels like he's got his head above water, and it has been awhile since he's reconnected with the Allen-Toomes family...
[] Peter has begun college recently, but gets into a spot of trouble, when a villain by the name of The Spot starts causing trouble in New York, causing Peter to miss his classes, and need to find various brand new excuses to be Spider-Man without anybody finding out.
[] Peter has begun college, but a villain at his college threatens his secret identity. This villain? Mindworm! With his powers of mind control, and massive cranium, he shall take over the entire college campus!
[] Peter had created a robot for a project in college, dubbing it The Living Brain, it was a supercomputer that could store an unlimited amount of data, and predict the outcome of practically anything, even being able to learn with time. Peter's professor, Dr. Petty had absolutely loved the idea of The Living Brain, and secretly stole it after Peter left to patrol NYC as Spider-Man, and decided to reprogram it to do whatever he wanted, making it predict the outcome of crimes his thugs would commit. Later, The Living Brain gained a shred of sapience, and rebelled against Dr. Petty, killing him and taking over his budding criminal organization.

It's just a small update, but I hope it was decent enough, though. There was really, only one idea (The Vulture one), so I had to come up with a few others on the spot.

I think I did well enough, with me thinking on my feet.

What is Peter studying, as in what's his major, in college

I mean, he's something of a omnidisciplinarian in the comics with feats in applied science, chemistry, physics, biology, engineering, mathematics, and mechanics, but I want to say in the comics he originally went for physics and either biochem or bioengineering as a secondary.

Personally, and this is largely because of the sheer breadth of skill and how Garfield has played him OTL, for our purposes I can see him focusing on getting a Applied Physics major (with a focus on engineering) and a Computer Science minor [to help him model simulations].
