I really would suggest you also approval vote for the "steps of the capitol" option, since right now "Place a call" is far behind and the second place option involves specifically trying to find a way to 'calm things down' and back down from the conflict without even giving any indication that we won't just keep on backing down even as the Feds quite likely murder people in the streets.

This is the Feds. They've been murdering striking workers, preparing a coup, doing things in the navy that apparently panicked one of our spies so much that he fled screaming to try to warn us (only to be killed before he could reach us), have disenfranchised minorities, and have MacArthur as one of their most prominent figures.

They will not accept an electoral loss.
 
More than anything, taking a conciliatory stance rn feels to me like a mistake. We can't pull the trigger first without losing support, it's true. But simultaneously, we need to prioritize standing in solidarity with the workers. A broad coalition fundamentally isn't going help when the feds start rolling tanks—do people think that Olson voters are going to fight and die in the streets?

Been chatting with folks over in the discord and I think I've been convinced to take a firmer stance. Ultimately I do value coordination with Long and Olson quite a bit, but I do agree that the Feds are not likely to back down in the face of an electoral loss. Trying to keep a lid on things is ultimately going to be counterproductive, and I'd rather our first instinct be firm support for the working class rather than attempted conciliation.

With that said, I'd like to be clear that we can't afford to strike first in a potential revolution; the value of being seen as defending a legitimate electoral victory cannot be understated. Moreover, we will need to prioritize outreach to Long and Olson as part of our strategy, I'd much rather have them both inside the tent pissing out at the moment. It'll make the internal politics of our war government a little trickier, but I'm confident we can maneuver them into being sidelined or effectively accepting the end of capitalism and the dictatorship of the proletariat once the civil war gets going.

There is but one answer here. Long can be brought to the table, perhaps. The Feds cannot.

Even if we can calm things down, with the Feds having come so close to losing control, the chances are very good they spend the winter purging the opposition piecemeal to avoid a general uprising. It's what states have done many times when a pre-revolutionary situation is led into disorientation and scattered militancy, a likely result of us calling for concession now. Since the army is reliable and already blooded against the people, and I think a huge Kerensky Offensive style own goal is unlikely, I don't think delaying and enduring the bad times is best. Although our position is only growing stronger in the long term, popular militancy can only be sustained so long in the short term, so we need to step up now while it is at a high point and hope they back down.

Everyone's saying the only way to avert a civil war is to surrender to the feds and therefore trying to calm things down and make alliances is useless. However there are massive military and electoral benifits to teaming up with Olson and Long. Just having the minutemen on side for the revolution is a lot more important in my opinion than making a fiery speech.

Long has declared that he's on our side as long as we don't fire the first shot. We don't intend to do so.

Yeah, the impression I'm getting is that there's so much violence and foul play involved with the election on every level that it's basically a total wash as to who legitimately won anywhere
