Actually that's a very good thing.

Charles is doing the mind probe in an almost unconscious manner kinda like an involuntary reflex. He's still learning to control his reach. Because he has spent all his time learning how not to control people's thoughts or have them overwhelm him.

Give him a little poke and he'll scamper back and realize he still needs work on keeping his probes in check.

Yeah, but I am worried that during our deep and impactful conversation with Eric we suddenly start drooling and shitting ourselves.

That is going to alter Eric's perception of us in a very particular way...

@Magoose so the stupidity of The Marvel writers about "Mutants" supposedly being a different species / subspecies is going to be considered Canon? That's unfortunate, a long with the moronic naming schemes. It's like they're trying to start a massive problem with naming themselves "Homo superior" and "Mutants" for supposedly smart people the are remarkably lacking in wisdom. Sorry for that, I'm just disappointed to see that crap in the character sheet.

It's less me trying to say they are a separate spieces and more sticking to

A. Using Marval Canon. Which I am warping to make the Nazis and by extension Shaw worse because fuck the Nazis. Their Psedo science could possibly create the rift between mutants and humans, by claiming their a different spieces.

B. Mutants aren't a separate spieces to humanity. It's in their name. They are mutates of the standerd human genome. If they were a separate spieces they would not be able to bread with regular humans.

TLDR: The Nazis poor science tried to classify mutants as their own separate branch of humanity to justify Aryanism.

Something to note is that humanity is a genus, not a species. To give an example Neanderthals are indeed human, just a different species of human. In fact there were other species of branches of humanity besides that one as well, somewhere like half a dozen officially recognized. Modern humans are called humans because we are the only ones left but technically our species is called Sapient AKA Homo Sapient IIRC.

So technically mutants would likely qualify as descendants in the same way Sapients are descended from earlier humans.

They also are also not naturally Evolved either, being experiments done by the Kree that were deemed failures and so we're left alone unlike the "Inhumans".
As much as I dislike Canon Worm, I think it would be much better to call them ParaHumans, I'm too tired to remember what one of the persons explanation of what the probable scientific name was but it meant something like parallel to Humanity and supposedly brought to mind thoughts on Transhumanism and some such. Or do what DC comics does and call them MetaHumans... Hopefully we can get the name changed to that in quest by pointing out how stupid it is to antagonize the majority of the population.
@Magoos what does wisdom score look like on your stat sheets? :D
