Because if surrounding a piece of warpstone in extremely precisely carved crystal is an effective means to over time get rid of it, which this would seem to imply since the warpstone radiates magic...
It's warpstone. It would probably just taint the crystal and turn it into meat. Or it would only disperse the stuff given off by the stone. While remaining active inside the container. Again. if the container survived.

Though I do wonder if it's effects would be helpful for recharging runes or not...
Runes losing their power is probably one of, if not -the- biggest problems of the Karaz Ankor. It is the reason Anvils of Doom are so treasured, and why so much Runic Knowledge has been lost.

You're not going to solve such a fundamentally big problem with a piece of glass.

My immediate response to that is to question it's effects on warpstone. Because if surrounding a piece of warpstone in extremely precisely carved crystal is an effective means to over time get rid of it, which this would seem to imply since the warpstone radiates magic... That would be nice. Even if it's over the course of centuries and has little practical application in the timeline if this quest, it still seems like a useful thing.

Though I do wonder if it's effects would be helpful for recharging runes or not...

There is already a safe way to get rid of warpstone using ambient processes, you just stick it down a hole lined with lead for a few thousand years and wait for it to decay into Dhar.

How about by asking Teclis to buy some power stones of each of the winds for our new Loremaster to test the effects of on their runes? Because that seems like a clear and obvious thing that they used to do in the Golden Age and shouldn't be too difficult to see happen again as long as we keep being the sun-touched wazzock whose friends with an Elgi, especially that Elgi.

You really want to speed run slayerdom don't you?

btw @Mayto just want to complement you on your ability to show just how nasty dwarvish red tape can be when they want it to, which I can imagine is another facet on why their culture sometimes seems to stand still compared to human societies.

I also loved the buildup for how much they're willing to lease the mine for, how much we're getting gouged and ripped off...and the amount is still more than we get from trade. Very well done on that.

If it helps bring the Dawi into a new golden age, sure! I mean we are already telling him about the Starbolt, looking into Alchemy, and talking to an Elgi in general. Adding buying stuff from them like our ancestors used to doesn't seem like a major issue. Just need the historical records to prove it, and we could probably get that in Kraka Drak.

Although, if we got our hands on Leonardo da Miragliano's drawings, Bokri would at least not be dismissive of them.

But he'd probably file them in the same category as he does Alchemy. Useful, but shameful.

I'd still be interested in seeing Garek and Vikki's takes the Meteoric Silver Compass.

The Meteoric silver compass might be useful in Solland, when wizards start appearing. Identifying wizards before they get in trouble would be very useful.

The Prism is a piece of technology that does something to magic... but dwarfs have no means to tell, as far as i know. Which is quite a pity, given how useful such a technology would be, if it could be adopted in larger quantities, rather than a unique curio.

Bummer on the roll, but even 50000 a year is a huge income boost for us. Let's try to get Our Bro, Throgrim, on the throne, investigate this conspiracy and we can get Ol' Olli over the barrel in a few years

Is there an option to just say no until after Karag Dum? Or at least until we get an action to send Ansgar to find out what this Araby business is? We can wait one more year.

Im not gonna lie i kinda want to just call their bluff and refuse to do anything with the gromril until we get a better deal.
I sort of want to do that too. Why are we letting them fleece us for a pittance? We know how valuable gromril is. If they don't want to give us a good deal, why bother? Not like we can use the stuff anyway.

To the rest of the Karaz Ankor, gromril is the metal. To us it's just ore we can't process surrounded by more useless ore that's deadly to be around and also attracts giant intelligent evil rats.

Yeah, we have Gromril, but we're not going to mine it cos the miner's guild is fleecing us. We're sun touched, not stupid.

Seriously, IC our engineer said we should take it, and better to get 'limited' money now while trying to find a good Reckoner as well as uncovering the conspiracy, than trying to let SV style pride make things worse for the sake of quester ego

Edit: Altered my vote based on compelling arguments showing it isn't just OOC reactions driving it.

Ok that's uncalled for. I haven't even voted yet or made up my mind and you decide that that option is based on quester ego. You could have just left it at your argument.

[X] Mine the Gromril. Don't hide its presence:
Don't make another jab like that at a fellow quester.

Renegotiating later from a superior position is a valid option. And shows your Clan and guild won't be fleeced.

Except that most of the arguments I'm seeing about focusing on how much the deal is insulting and how much more we should be getting, so it comes across as being driven by ego and pride, similar to how we all, myself included, were riled up at Wissenland for their stunt.

When we get IC reasoning saying that the deal, even with the gouging and such is a good one, trying to stand on 'we should getting more' and 'we shouldn't take a bad deal' does smack of OOC pride and ego

Never make another jab like that at a fellow quester.

Wasn't a jab, and definitely wasn't targeted at any one person either.

So while fair enough on refusing being valid, as it wasn't included at the time as well as the phrasing of the refutations.

[X] Nobody fleeces a Ranger!:
Refuse to sign any contract. Just walk out of the hall. Nobody bends you over a barrel!
Negotiate another day from a better position.
