Deedeequest or The Wonders of Mundus: Be Careful Who You Pretend To Be - A Genderous Isekai Quest

How Dice Rolls Work
Character sheet is here.

Dice rolls are 1d10 + Stat + Proficiency + any applicable bonuses, such as Boons.

You may spend 3 Tension to Overdrive for a retroactive +5 to your roll (a Determination Overdrive), or +3 to an ally's roll (a Teamwork Overdrive). I will also automatically overdrive to avoid exhaustion or unconsciousness.

It is possible to critically succeed (on +5 on skill checks and +10 on combat rolls) or critically fail (by the same margins), but rolling a 1 or a 10 does not automatically crit in either case. It is possible to crit retroactively by Overdriving.

Your stat bonuses have names:
  • Vigor grants a Strength bonus.
  • Agility grants a Dexterity bonus.
  • Spirit grants an Aura bonus.
  • Mind grants an Intuition bonus.
  • Resolve grants a Guts bonus.
Dice are rolled on a first come, first serve bonus. You only roll for Deedee.

you got some seriously good empathy and rapport rolls with Sio, this wasn't a thing I was going to bring up early if you hadn't nailed those rolls

Oh of course, all the npc adventurers and companions and all them would be right in the middle of the Player culture with many, especially in the early days, almost forgetting that they're there at all. Why wouldn't they be able to start picking up the Player lingo and mannerisms to get ahead and traverse the pitfalls and potential rewards of Player style Adventuring? Good for Sio, honestly.

Hahahaha wow. Leave it to a devout Thornite to find a completely new cultural boundary and make a new life by setting up camp in its penumbra.

Good job on those rolls, y'all.

They are very much a goddess of the liminal.

Much like their namesake, really.

(As I've mentioned before, I think, 'Thorne' was the chosen nickname of my old tabletop character that eventually became Dr Charley Durante in I/O. And I spent about five or six years playing her in the DWRP that our other project, Synquest, is based on—the setting of which is called liminal space.)

Pre-Chapter 2.5 Voting
How do we approach Ace's interest in us? (This will not, yet, lock out other potential partners.)
[] [ACE] It's probably for the best if we stay friends, this is as much adrenaline as anything.
[] [ACE] Keep tabs on it. See if she's actually interested or just curious.
[] [ACE] Start flirting with her and see what happens. She said she's already making excuses to get backrubs from us...
[] [ACE] I'm overthinking this, she can't possibly really be interested, it's a coincidence. (Locked out by having more than 3 Resolve)

How will we handle Siobhan's secret?

[] [SIO] Keep quiet. It's not my business.
[] [SIO] Let her know I know, but otherwise say nothing.
[] [SIO] Let her know I know and teach her to fit in better.
[] [SIO] Let her know and ask why Adventuring, and why us.
[] [SIO] Someone else in the party needs to know about this, just in case...

Some of these options are more dangerous than others.

I'm willing to defer to others on the Ace question. Mostly just grateful that we finally seem to be getting that Resolve issue sorted.

I have opinions about the Sio situation, though.

First off: Deedee has expressed her own opinion on the right move here: "don't out her unless we have to", and "she might not want to discuss yet why she's chosen this path". Deedee's intuitions are not necessarily great when they involve her - thanks brain problems - but she's had her perceptive moments when that confounding factor isn't in play.

Here's the other angle I'm thinking about: part of the Thornite credo is "to eschew falsehood and artifice in favor of honesty and plain meaning", right? So I'm more inclined to believe that, unless Siobhan's devotion to Thorne is itself a ruse, her attempts to "pass" as playerbase is backed on some level by a sincere willingness/desire to acculture.

If we take that as an assumption... the question becomes "do we want to help her"?

Speaking only for myself... I kinda do. I want to see where this goes. And I think if we're going to talk to her about this at all, and not just keep our mouths shut (which is an option I'd be OK with and certainly the safest way to go), then offering our help becomes the easiest way to keep "hey BTW I've clocked you" from coming across as a possible threat to her new life.

[X] [SIO] Let her know I know and teach her to fit in better.

And as usual, I find your logic pretty convincing—and fuck knows she could stand to get her adventurer lessons directly from an actual one instead of another AI.

Play it cool and...play it semi-cool?

instead of another AI.
...ohhhh. I hadn't actually connected the dots on this until you went and said it. I suppose it does make sense... it puts a much more specific shade on Siobhan's special relationship with her patron, and it fits the short list of people who'd know the kind of scattershot cultural references she's apparently been getting from somewhere. ^_^

We should not fear the chance to be a little daring. Just a little.

Genuinely trying to help I think has potential for long-term payoffs... As long as we do it respectfully.

I'm compelled to point out that "Another AI" could just as easily mean any random Mundane, but draw your own conclusions.

Also known as "hahaha I'm too scared to try to make a move but also unwilling to say 'no', I'm going to do nothing and pretend that it's because gathering more information is the logical thing to do."

I broadly agree with @Qoheleth here, but with the added perspective of this essentially being a free offering of trust - "I know, and am not keeping my knowledge from you; I know, and will not ask why you're doing this; I know, and can help you with the bits you're missing". I think she's most likely to take well to this of the approaches that involve telling her at all, but more importantly, it establishes us as someone she can trust with anything else that might be potentially dangerous or delicate information. It's something we've already kind of started, with how we approached the meeting with the Contessa and asked Lady del'Norte's for a favour at the gate. We were empathic and diplomatic, we saw things from their perspective, we tried to help, and we did our best to come across as someone open, honest, trustworthy and reliable.

And I think that's a reputation that's worth building, not just with Sio but in general. Because while it means potentially learning about things that might be worrying or stressful, it's very much something our Least boons from Sylphan, Eranda and Flamma make us suited for, and I think just the position of being known as someone you can bring sensitive problems to who won't judge or spread it around and who'll do her best to help is something that will help our Resolve in the long run. It's difficult work, but it's also intensely rewarding and fulfilling to be trusted like that, whether it's by one person or by many.

We don't have to go that route, of course. But having a reputation - among both Players and NPCs - as that kind of Trustworthy Person is something that would probably also make people more partial to hearing or helping us in turn. So there are reasons beside just mental health and basic compassion to consider it as a long-term goal.

Apropos of nothing, @Talia B —does my second interlude go up next or will there be some more regular updates first?

Just caught up with the story again. I like how things are coming along, but can someone tell me where Sio happened? That character was just suddenly there on my quick read.
