  1. Antonio will try to find a guide even without you (though it is more likely to work if you take the time)
  2. As for the bows the trouble is no one besides you even really know what good bows look like, there is Roland and then there are the men at arms he taught how to shoot
Did the mares gave birth yet? Also all our men knows how to swim right?

Cool, so even without us, Antonio is on the ball there. Maybe Zaia can help, he is knowledgeable about geography and stuff.

I've updated my plan a bit to have Tom accompany a couple of our archers to look for bows to purchase.
You would have to bring that up IC.
Can we do that soon, maybe before we leave port? Inge might want to buy herself some stuff before we embark on another long trip. Or she might just want to save it to flex on her uncle (or was it a cousin, I can't recall) when she eventually returns as a wealthy and powerful mage.

She is a nine year old girl, not what you would call an expert in buying stuff.

True, but we can at least make the option available to her. Even if she's really mature for her age, she might still want to buy herself sweets, a ribbon to the around Ripper's tail, games, etc. It would also be a show of respect for her, I think, and that we trust her with money and believe she has earned it.

[X] Speak to Aina about how the raids have been going, perhaps learn more than common court rumor about her suitors
This will be important later. We don't want to burn that bridge or let it fall into water by neglect.

[X] Seek out a bowyer to arm as many of the sailors with a bow as can use them

Antonio is good at finding guides. At some point the other shoe will drop and we'll face a flying enemy. Best to have plenty of bows available.

If we ask Watcher and Tender return with us, horses will become even less secure.
And I suport initiative of Goldfish to pay Inge.

[X] Seek out a bowyer to arm as many of the sailors with a bow as can use them

[X] Ask Watcher and Tender if they wish to return north with you, you could certainly use their aid on such a long and likely perilous journey

The vote is really close, if you are interested in shopping versus talking to the exiled princess now would be the time to chip in

With conflict coming to the Anwa, it might not be safe for them to linger, and passage back to their homeland may be difficult to find in the coming months.
[X] Go to the market with Inge and see if there are any blessed weapon, armor, or talisman for yourself or your companions to be found
-[X] Lesser Talismans, especially Pentacle Talismans
[X] Ask Zaia to accompany Antonio in finding a guide willing to sail with you to the White Lands who has been there before. Between Antonio's knowledge of sailing and experience dealing with men, liars included, and Zaia's general breadth of knowledge, they should be able to weed out any potential guides who oversell themselves.

Arc 6 Post 19: In a Child's Eye
In a Child's Eye

Fourth Day of the Greensinging 1348 A. L. (After Landfall)

Talismans of protection and preservation were commonplace in the markets of Apuku, all the more for the spate of ill luck that had struck their sailors and fishermen. Medallions in the shape of a tongue split down the middle said to guard against curses and the evil eye vie vie for the buyer's eye with bright scarab's shell said to ward off pox and plague and then in turn with amber beads that hold hole insects at their hearts which are supposed to keep off the breath of ill winds and so much more than you can even recall, fish heads wrapped in bundles of dried seaweed, reed dolls with eyes of black stone that seem to glitter almost lifelike in the waning light of the sun. Were you alone here you would likely buy an armful of baubles from the most silver tongued liars one and all. thankfully you are not alone. Inge's eyes glimmer with a distant light of their own and in that light the wheat from the chaff is parted... much to the displeasure of the folk who make their living off the latter.

More than once you have to place your hand on the hilt of your blade as Inge proclaims a certain merchant to be a charlatan as others in the crowded market have started following the pair of you around, and marking who is true and who is false. In the case of one particularly well appointed fellow from the south who nonetheless wears his beard in the locals style with more gold in it than you have seen outside of the court you actually have to step up and draw the blade two inches from its sheath before he and his guards decide to gracelessly back down, curses on their lips.

Still dear is the cost of what which holds power and neither you nor Inge are in the least skilled at what Antonio half-seriously calls 'the fine art of haggling'. Though you do not lack for silver still you wonder if it is wise to spend so much on things so small and fragile as to be spent in a moment.

"Battle might be turned in the blink of an eye," Silver reminds you when the noise of the crowd is enough that his whisper is hopefully lost to other ears but yours.

4x Nikure's Grace: This silver talisman in the form of two delicate intertwined spirals glows blue whenever an evil creature targets the wearer with magic jar, possession, or a similar effect, or with a charm or compulsion spell or effect that allows the creature to exercise control over the wearer (such as suggestion, but not sleep). If the spell or effect allows a saving throw and the wearer fails it, he receives a second saving throw. If he succeeds at the second saving throw, the wearer is also protected by protection from evil for 5 rounds.
Cost: 300 GP

5x Talismans of the Deep Roots: These talismans are wrought not of gold or silver, even of copper, but the pits of mango taken from sacred trees grown in lands where none may turn axe upon the living wood upon them is inscribed the name of the tree from which they are taken, that the bearer might be guarded from sudden falls, as the tree is warded against the storm. The bearer may re-roll any failed roll against being bull rushed by magical or mundane means if this second roll succeeds they are may attempt a grapple against the enemy as a free action.
Cost: 150 GP

1x Broken Arrow of the Mammoth Lord: A broken ivory tipped arrow from a far off land said to have shattered in the flesh of a great warrior as he fought on though pierced many times over, to die only upon the corpse of his foe. The first time the bearer takes more than 20 Damage in a single round the talisman will trigger and grant 2d8 Temporary Hit points and DR 5/Cold Iron for 5 rounds
Cost 1000 GP

Total Funds: 4861

Wow, nice selection! Is that our first 100 Crit roll so far?

@DragonParadox, are all of these amulets, or can we get some rings instead? Roland and Inge are already wearing magic amulets, but have plenty of other item slots.

Also, can we buy all of the Nikure's Grace, but deduct the cost for one each from Antonio and Zaia's funds? Roland can pay for the other two, one for himself and one for Inge, I'm thinking.

  1. On a flat d100 yes this is the first one
  2. Lesser Talismans do not use normal slots, you can wear up to three of them at once.
  3. Yes you can deduct them, they seem like a useful thing to have

I know the Broken Arrow of the Mammoth Lord talisman is very expensive, but it's also an emergency survival item, one that could very likely save Roland's life in the near future. We're about to embark on another sailing trip, and there isn't likely to be anywhere else along the way to spend our money, so this is a good chance to use it to make a difference instead of sitting on it for a rainy day. If our trading venture up north is successful, we should more than make up the difference.

[X] Cha-ching!
