To Struggle and Strive: The Combined Syndicates of America in 1932. A Kaiserreich Quest

[] "My fellow comrades, we have won great victories! Let us go ever onward, and win so many more!"
[] Yes. You will receive options to collaborate with Long on various actions. Slight loss to Relations and Suppport.

I think we should grind relations with Long for sure, it'd be great to have one less front and a more solid position when the civil war comes. Not sure about our statement though.

I don't like it but I don't want to alienate the RAF.

[x] "My fellow workers, we have won great victories, despite the faltering and flagging efforts of the capitalists and reactionaries. They're efforts are futile and meaningless, and I ask you to treat them as such. Use the bullet and bayonet where you must, but offer the open hand first. We must be better than our enemies." You support the moderates in this struggle.

Personally, I'm not a fan of extralegal killings, but that's not the (main) reason I want to side with the moderates. We're getting most of what we want already, and the obstacles that the courts are putting in the way are mostly bureaucratic injunctions and foot-dragging that we can just ignore. Lynching judges will most likely turn away any fence-sitters at a time when we need to build as big a mass movement as we can. The radicals might think that we can push ahead and seize everything now, but they are wrong.

[x] Yes. You will receive options to collaborate with Long on various actions. Slight loss to Relations and Suppport.

Again, building ties for the upcoming conflict. We might disagree with a lot of what Long says, but he's much more useful as an ally (that can purged after the civil war if necessary) than as an enemy.

[x] Push for partial implementation. It will be less offensive, and less likely to cause a problem. But it might upset people anyway, and it won't work as well. On the other hand, once people are used to it, you can introduce more reforms.
-[x] Just command staff for Butler. (???)

Not as convinced with this one, but the thought is that getting some reforms now will make future reforms easier to swallow without risking everything all at once. I chose to go with Butler's command staff because we know Butler and have faith he can carry it out effectively. We don't know who would be in charge of the regional commands and thus can't know if they'd do as good a job.

[x] Push for the full implementation of Butler's reforms: staff officers for regional commanders and for him, appointed by their respective commanders. It will alienate many in the CSA and the Red Guards, but the sooner the command staff gets put in charge the better. (???)
[x] "My fellow comrades, we have won great victories! Let us go ever onward, and win so many more!" Remain neutral in this struggle.

Ok cards on the table I think we should leave open options for further work with long but am very suspicious about the work mixing longists with red guards, if we get betrayed we will suffer heavily.

Thinking supporting partial reform and having staff elected for butler and regional staff. Make some change but not complete

I think support Radicals for taking factories. Although there are good reasons for supporting moderation- very good. We should push towards fighting the capatilists and taking factories in preparation for the Civil War.

We should also give approx 20 resources in one go and 3 or 4 a turn to our subordinates.

[X] No. Long may reach out to you occasionally, but you will not be able to initiate working with him.

I think Long should be the one to show that he is willing to further work with us. Not the other way around.

EDIT:

The thing is, we can push forward with seizing the factories without killing judges. All that extra legal killings accomplishes is making us look like violence-crazed hooligans in the eyes of the rest of the country. We don't need the legal justification to carry out nationalization, so intimidating judges into compliance is pointless.

Edit: To quote Talleyrand: "It's worse than a crime, it's a mistake."

We should vote on budget for our subordinates

Thinking we can afford a reasonable amount given we are also taking over further factories.

[X] Give the SPA a lump sum of 15 resources, and give them an 3 extra resources a month.

Also there is now a resource tab for state government- very interesting!

In my opinion, we go big or we go home. We need time to break in this new command structure and the civil war could break out at any moment.

Enlightened Centrism is for the best because both factions have major subordinates we don't want to seriously upset.

My big problem with Long in the past was how cozy he was getting with overt white supremacists. Now, however, he appears to have kicked them to the curb, and since he seems genuine in that regard I'm willing to entertain the idea of an anti-Federal front.

[X] Transfer 14.4 Lump Resources and 4.2 Resources per turn after this turn to the SPA for the time being.

This gets the SPA/Subordinate budget to +0.5 per turn with 15.5 lump, and Reed's budget to +2 per turn with 10 lump. I believe this is necessary so Butler can take the more expensive options necessary for improving the Red Guards on a wide scale, such as Establish Sporting Clubs which costs 4 Resources, and Purchase More Arms which costs 6 Resources.

We'll be able to recover our resource income much easier than our subordinates can, so I think that this is the right move.

And to bring the argument from Discord to here, Rationalize Production Methods is founded on our/the CSA's budget, as is the action to actually seize arms factories directly. Those cost 4 resources and 6 resources a turn respectively.

I think that taking more than 3 Resources a turn from the CSA budget is both a little bit reckless, and liable to see a major backlash against us because it very much looks like, and very much is, looting the CSA to pay the party's bills.

Unsure on what position to take in the struggle.

Everyone, look at the current budget:
Reed's Resources: 24.4, +6.2 per month
SPA Resources: 0.1, -4.2 per month

Can we at least give the SPA/Subordinates enough to break even at +0 per month?
