[X] Plan: Training Montage

Let us learn how to SWORD!
Going to be an interesting run all the same, besides, things are escalating, so combat training is a go! We shall punch through the heavens, the sky shall shatter under our fist! Let's punch reality in the face!

Over the top? Sure, but it's a training montage in an Shonen, dream big, right?

[X] Plan: Training Montage
-[X] Train for Tournament (Mark if it will be for Kendo or Karate):
-- [X] Kendo
-- [X] Kendo x2
-- [X] Karate
-- [X] Karate x2

Hello there, just finished binging this quest yesterday and I thought to join into the fun.

[X] Plan: Training Montage

Something of note is that we do need to eventually help our bro out in terms of physically strengthening him so that he won't be too reliant on us or on Yameko in a fight. Protecting the tactician is important and it would be logical to do things from afar, but he is the main protagonist in a battle shonen, he will have to learn how to fight.

Most of you can disagree now.

Semi-Canon Omake: The Girl From Kirin High
The Girl From Kirin High

My name is Kazama Yuki. First name Yuki, surname Kazama.

I may be much older than I look, but I'm currently pretending to be a 16 years old student at Kirin High. The last few weeks have been more out of the ordinary than usual. Of course, that cursed school had been nothing but trouble and I knew it the moment I took a step in it.

There was nothing supernatural there... at first, which I made sure to check, so there was no curse over it aside from the stupidity and desire of everyone there to get into a fight or join some street gang.

But suddenly a stupid kumiho comes around disguised as a human and suddenly that crazy Agano girl decided to start a big school fight with those stupid silver spoons from Raijn Academy, which ended up with a ton of injured and captured, but it is irrational for me to care about these morons.

No, what care about is the fact that there is a new benefactor to that rich school and its most certainly the organization are that benefactor. It would certainly be the smartest way for them to infiltrate into this city and look for me and my kind in secret.

I am a Bakeneko, a cat Youkai. I am also a shut-in, but not a hikikomori, that is different and people should know the difference. There is a difference between not wanting to leave your house at all and not wanting to go outside to do stupid stuff like hang out with brainless morons who use whatever little brain power they do have on their tattoos.

I'm apparently the only smart person in Kirin High. I just want to live a life as a normal highschooler, but apparently having a brain is intimidating to be around. Oh no, using your brain might actually give you a better future than jail or rotting in an alley, the horror.

Gods, sometimes I really want to curse every moron there, but it is just an irrational action coming from my own frustrations. It's even more frustrating now that there is some stupid canine in my school who thinks she can just cause problems with her stupid small fox brain.

If she does anything similar to the Raijin Raid, then the organization might find me as well. I cannot let that happen! Therefore it is only rational for me to keep an eye on who she meets up with and follow them in order to make sure that white canine doesn't do anything that would inadvertently risk me.

Fortunately for me, I'm good at not showing my emotions on the outside. A straight-laced face and keeping quiet is all I ever do in school, so I'm probably not gaining much attention anyway.

Anyway, who needs to think about that stupid canine or any stupid human in that stupid school?! All I need is my laptop to do my homework and my daily checkup on company stocks, my gaming computer, my bookshelf filled with my favorite philosophers. Of course, my daily life wouldn't be complete with my three best friends: Pon-Pon, Momo and Sacho, my three adopted and personally trained street cats.

...Ugh, darn it. I do care. As much as I can't stand those foxes and wolves, I don't want any Youkai to die. No one deserves what

That's why I decide to spend my afternoon checking the connection of the canine to Raijin and see how she got to Kirin and who she might know there. While the logical way for me to proceed would be to not draw attention to myself and stay away from that girl, it would also be logical to try and keep an eye on her, so I want to have as much knowledge on her before I do anything else.

I, Kazama Yuki, shall find the the most logical way to protect myself and my small friends who depend on me to stay by their side.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

And that's a wrap. Not the best I could do, but I hope that this was enough to be entertaining to the QM.

I came up with this idea when I read the cat girl vs fox girl early in this quest and I found it funny in case a cat girl would come and try to become a member of our bro's harem. Of course, if this didn't really showed Yuki's character very well, I can also make an omake that details a day in her life just for fun.

Anyway, bye bye for now. Stay safe, stay healthy and have a great day.

On Omakes

Ok. A few things:

1. It's pretty ok. You did well.

2. However, I will have to say that I do have rules regarding Omakes. My fault you didn't see it as I didn't threadmark it. But the short of it is, I would appreciate it if people sent the Omakes to me as PMs before posting them in the Thread. This is mostly to stop people from spamming them too much (cause I know that Sage's Quest got crazy with Omakes), and also just to see how they are and help the writers out if they need it.

3. I will let this one slide, since you likely didn't know this and it's the first time this happened. However, your Omake will be considered Semi-Canon. Just as a head's up. What does Semi-Canon mean? Basically, the Character exists, but she likely won't become a "Main Character" anytime soon. Consider her the equivalent of a Sidestory Character that goes on her own adventures, but doesn't intersect with the main cast.

I'll be sure to Threadmark this post for future reference.

When you called her, she told you to come to the pier on the edge of the city. It took a bus ride and some serious shortcuts through alleyways to get here on time, but you managed to make it just before she sate down on the edge of the pier.
According [to] her she's doing fine in school and can't see why she would need a tutor.
"Then what Clan were you apart of?"
a part
I keep watching this with interest, but have no alternative plans to add at the moment

Okay, thanks for at least making the character cannon. So I'll remember from now on to send you a PM if I want to make another omake to get your permission.

Pretty Unanimous.

Well, this tory has been a blast to catch up with; all of the aspects have been a lot of fun but I especially liked the way you write the personal interactions between the characters.

The brotherly rapport between Yamato and Hayato in particular has been brilliant and I love the depth involved.

Admittedly not really needed but still:

Honestly think we should do more training in the fighting comp skills. Especially Kendo. After all it says 50+ to enter not win. And Kendo has two Skills for skill checks.

Well, first, I'm calling the vote. Training Montage time!

Well, thank you. I'm glad that the interactions are actually fun, especially since I tend to write them and worry they feel silted.

And I'm glad Yamato and Hayato's relationship is something you enjoy. This quest wouldn't exactly deserve it's name if it didn't.

We have two Weekends and a Week left to do training, though you reminded me to ask something.

@LinkOnScepter if we spend 2 more AP training Kendo/Karate then there will be overflow. Because we train MMA at the same rate, are training for the Tournament with the same Club, and would be able to easily shift to a MMA trainer even if Hose was somehow unavailable, would it be possible for the overflow to go into MMA?

Honestly, if we're willing to spend more Weekend AP on training, or if we get Weekend Projects that give us related skill points, I'd spend some of that AP on improving our Physical Resistance in addition to dropping one in MMA.

3 AP on training PR with Yato would make us much more enduring if these end up more than Technical Demonstrations (and because Anime they should be).

However I don't expect that, and if we were going to get Weekend Projects related to Tourney Training then we probably would have this past weekend.

What I'd like to do then for our remaining time is spend 1 AP this weekend on MMA with Hose, 3 AP on various SLs (Yam, Hose, and Lizzy? Or Yam, Rits, and Hose? Maybe Yam, Rits, and Lizzy?), then a repeat of our Training Montage during the Week, then the final Weekend before the Tourney we go and do Yato's SL Quest and enter the Tourney with our Partner SL at 10 and 90+ (95+ if the Skill Spillover works how I'd like it to) in all three of our Martial Arts.

In my opinion that's waste, put still 4 more AP to skills that we won't be using outside this tournament, since MMA is our main non-mystic martial art and it is the only one where we have any training in its other relative skill (Street fighting, if those even matter since this is a specific martial art tournament), and weekends are far more important to be used to improve our SLs, research, events and visiting places. Next week we should put 1 AP in each of MMA, kendo, karate and Physical Resistance, since it helps with all of fighting. That way we most likely win the MMA part and do well in the others. And from the anime pov, no one likes if the protagonist or deuteragonist completely wins their first tournament.

And there is no skill spillover, that's not how that works. We're training the skills we choose, not magically realizing that suddenly there's something we cannot get better and move to do something else for a moment.

In reverse order.

None of our Unarmed Combat Skills (besides UMT) require supporting Skills. I checked, and WoG is that because we have competent people training us we get the full benefits of even Kendo without needing anything like Swords. The initial sorting was more of a "Oh you do [blank]? Then this one fits you better."

As for the Skills remaining unused.

When they hit or break 90, we're given the choice to take them to Supernatural levels. If we do then they become Supernatural Martial Arts. This gives them different 80 and 100 Perks and makes them relevant against Supernatural Opponents, the draw back being that you need to do something to unlock the perks instead of just picking them compared the the Mundane 80 and 100 (and I assume 120 and 140).

If you have SL of...8? I think it was 8, with your Partner, you can use and combine Supernatural Martial Arts for the purposes of adding Skills to combat checks.

If we get Karate, Kendo, and MMA to 90+, go for the Supernatural option, then trigger the Yato Quest, then we'll have an effective "basic" cap of 500, one for each SMA and one for Physical Resistance, when it comes to Serious Combat.

Unless @LinkOnScepter expresses that I got something wrong, then if done properly then none of our investments here will be useless, especially with the revealed Supernatural Perks.

Next week we should put 1 AP in each of MMA, kendo, karate and Physical Resistance, since it helps with all of fighting.

I'd very much like to spend 1 AP on MMA this weekend and repeat our training montage next Week, so we can turn all of them into Supernatural Martial Arts for the above reasons.

and weekends are far more important to be used to improve our SLs, research, events and visiting places.

I broadly agree, but was just expressing a desire to get Super Swole. The smarter move is to minimally spend on Weekend AP on Skill development I know.

That way we most likely win the MMA part and do well in the others. And from the anime pov, no one likes if the protagonist or deuteragonist completely wins their first tournament.

Considering how relatively easy it is for us to hit Cap and the fact that our Seniors are demonstratively kickass (or at least Hose is), and that we need to run the entire gauntlet ourself, I expect that we'll face challenges even if we managed All-100 for each of category.

And there is no skill spillover, that's not how that works. We're training the skills we choose, not magically realizing that suddenly there's something we cannot get better and move to do something else for a moment.

I'm entirely aware of this, but I had a very vague hope that our seniors teaching us would have enough insight to redirect us as necessary, as the IC reasoning. I'm not really expecting LinkOnScepter to answer with an affirmative for what I asked, but I figured that with the circumstances it couldn't hurt to ask.
