Character Creation: School

[X] Bayushi family, the clan rulers

[X] No family, the people from the waves

As soon as your lord returned from Winter seclusion, you and many others were summoned. With dispassionate praise, each of you was exalted for their services, handed a simple gift and dismissed. You have done everything right; you were dutiful, the clan needed you, but such service and sacrifice would have to go unrewarded.

It was not supposed to be like this.

Your family oversaw a small village in the borders, raising fast horses and ponies for use by the messengers of the Clan. Unicorn blood flows through your veins, as your family was one of the many whose marriages sealed the peace after the return of the Ki-rin. Your eldest sibling got to serve the clan overseeing the family holdings; the second-oldest was sent to the Unicorn to fulfill the obligations to that side of the family and for the rest of you, being tailored to the service of your liege was your destiny.

You trained, doing all the right things, making all the right choices and honing yourself with all the sharpness noble privilege can provide. And yet it was not enough. There was not a place for you in this world; the society you dedicated yourself to serve had no need for you.

You were cast away, your services and life not something your lord can afford anymore. For a moment you think of returning home, but to do what? To serve your sibling, to be a burden at the home of someone in an even more precarious position? No, you will serve the Scorpion in other ways; the Great Hail will not define your life.

Cast to the waves, you need to understand who you are. Dropping the mask and the trappings of nobility, what do you see yourself as?

[] [Training] Learned the ropes as Ronin

Ever since you have to draw more and more on your lessons, you have found you have survived by:

[] [Ring] Easing the class and caste device by understanding and relating to others.

[] [Ring] Improvising by using your quick wit to be one step ahead of trouble

Feel free to vote in our samurai's role, and if you have a preference for a specific school, do it as a write-in; it or the closest fitting the final roles tally/5th edition rules. The winner of training will determine if we pick from Scorpion, Unicorn or ronin schools. Ring vote will determine your first bonus.

We will know our school Thursday 1300 GMT

That was an interesting tie.

I was not expecting a Millennial/ZGen samurai as our outcome.

The Unicorn relatives and possibility to train with the Unicorn is a nod to the runner-up on the Clan vote. They reason for Ronin options should be self evident.

Kolat in
What are the Kolat like in 5E?

A big boogeyman, inconsistently written and not clear on their goals and motivations. They are more in line with a network of criminal syndicate, with only one known Master (the Miya daimyo), and they were the ones that killed the Emerald Champion Doji Satsume.

In our setting, the Emerald Champion was not killed by them, but by the Loyalist faction, for exactly the opposite reason (to solidity Hantei power).

Once we know more about our character, we will decide if they are radicalised or not. Most people are not, following the "Celestial Order Realism" and the ideology of non ideology that There Is No Alternative. Even the aforementioned Loyalists are radicals, as they believe the Hantei rule is under threat to drive them to Reaction.

The Kolat will be one of those possible radical groups; they will be more akin to a burgeois and aristocratic elite driving caste politics to impose something that could be called a borgouise dictatorships

I'm going for the Ronin, but what exactly are the benefits of being a Ronin?
