I'll end it in two hours. This is pretty cut and dry.

Totodile will use Leer, but considering this is meant to be a fast-paced fight, I will need to tinker with our combat voting system for future battles.

I suppose that there are two ways to approach faster combat: reducing the number of votes, or reducing the time to vote.

To reduce the number of votes would either meaning changing the combat system or letting players 'buffer inputs', voting for multiple actions in one vote. Votes like 'Leer, then scratch until something gives' or 'Leer, then tackle unless The Machine uses growl. If it does, leer again to keep up unless one hit would KO the bird anyways'.

Reducing the time between votes requires... well, a schedule. When a fight is about to start you would give two times: the first the deadline for whatever vote the fight starts with (like choosing the first pokemon to send, deciding overall strategy like fleeing, fighting fair, violating league regulation by sending out too many pokemon, and so forth) and the second for when the combat votes will start. This let's players know when they need to be constantly checking for updates, allowing you to have short votes that take an hour, 15 minutes, or potentially even less time.

I don't want to muck around with the fundamental systems of pokemon battles, so what I'd like to do is try to get a schedule down. Once the fundamentals are sorted out, we can test different "time windows" for when to open and close battle votes.

Day schedules should be much simpler -- Plan it out, vote by plan. Then I break down the events piece by piece.

Battle: Rival Florence & The Machine 02
[X] FIGHT!
-[X] LEER

You think about your options carefully. As far as you know, Totodile only has two moves: The damage-dealing Scratch and the Defense-lowering Leer. Florence is going all-in with the Tackle attacks, but if you're gonna beat him decisively, you're gonna have to use your head.

Once the gator pokemon is back on her feet, you call out to Totodile!

"Leer!"

The Totodile takes a stance and affixes a frightening scowl at the jovial Rowlet!

Leer: Accuracy Check
Totodile's Tough (???) + Intimidate = 3D6
1, 2, 4 = 1 Success!

The Machine stops in his tracks, the black eyes behind his joke glasses growing wide! It hoots in surprise!

The Machine's Defense fell!

"Don't let her psyche you out!" Florence calls out to his Rowlet. "Tackle!"

The Machine hesitates, but slowly flaps his wings to recklessly ram into Totodile again!

Tackle: Accuracy Check
The Machine's Dexterity + Brawl = 2D6
5, 5 = 2 Successes!

Tackle: Damage Roll
The Machine's Strength + 2 - Totodile's Defense = 2D6
1, 2 = Minimum Damage!

The Machine fumbles into combat, flailing its tiny wings and slapping Totodile on the snout!

-1 HP

Florence lets out a cheer to try and motivate The Machine. Totodile sneers, growls, and nips at the air around her enemy!

Does she want you to call out an attack? What are your--

Before you can finish that thought, somebody throws a steel chair into the field! The two pokemon scramble away from the foreign object!

"Who threw that?" your mom asks the crowd.

Nobody answers, but you think the chair was donated to your street fight by the old lady with the fruit . It wasn't Trenchcoat Man; he was being fitted for handcuffs by Officer Jenny and her cute Azumarill in riot gear.

"This is a league match and The Machine doesn't even have arms!" Florence's dad points out. "Keep it clean!"

"Thank you, Richard."

"Besides, I didn't want your kid to get any ideas."

"Don't think I didn't notice what you implied over there!"

Uh. That happened. What are your orders now?

TOTODILE HP: 3/5
THE MACHINE HP: ??

Well. It looks like you might all go for Scratch. If it wasn't for the fact I really need to go to bed, I'd just keep going! For the time being, I'll just consider where things are going next and get out the next round in the morning.

So what is with the chair and should we grab it if no one claim it?
Florida Man Throws Steel Chair into High School Wrestling Match.

Seriously, it should always feel silly. We're in not!Florida after all.

"It felt like the right thing to do."
-The old lady, after being questioned by Officer Jenny and Sheriff Azumarill about why she threw a steel chair into a match between two really weak starter pokemon.

Even if they were strong enough to lift the chair, your Totodile isn't able to get the leverage to use it in a battle. This is why my fairy warrior in Dungeons: The Dragoning abused her magical flight to get away with using a darksteel chair that was about as tall as she was in battle.
