My thoughts on each cursebearer:
[ ] Daylian Erranthus [Basic, 0 Arete] / [ ] Daylian Erranthus [Committed, 7 Arete]
An absurd, bombastic, suicidal hero? It's love at first sight.
Hunger, Daylian, and Gisena is a simply incredible combo of insane, risk-taking maniacs. A three-stooges of bad decisions. I need this to happen so, so badly.
So previously I speculated that the Azure Moon held the the Halls of the Lazulite from EFB, and that they were built by a Builder called The Lazulite.
Maybe the Azure moon is where the EFB Fates lived
The Lazulite being a Builder who lived on the Azure moon in the Halls of the Lazulite
This confirms that Lazulite and the color azure, as in Azure moon, are linked. Lazulite is immortal myth, presumably one step up from regular myth.
His "eyes of blue limned in gold" is interesting. Golden findross and azure myth? If his world has both Findross and Lazulite, same as the Voyaging Realm, then I think it's very likely he was on the EFB world. In an EFB world with no titans and no gods he would definitely be the most powerful being.
In the short term, having an expert in Immortal Myth show up would likely hugely simplify our money problems. In the medium term he can show Hunger the consequences of recklessness. And in the long term, as a Progression cursebearer he can keep up. What a great guy!
[ ] Wolber Strobe [Basic, 7 Arete] / [ ] Wolber Strobe [Committed, 12 Arete]
His [A Beautiful Mind], referencing a show about a mental disorder, combined with three curses that isolate him socially, makes me think that he was rather socially isolated even before becoming a cursebearer. Though his personality seems quite different than Seram his lifestyle was likely the same.
He has a very nice quote as well. Not will or determination, but habit, is what makes a person.
I think the best reason to pick him is that he can assist us in mitigating the Apocraphal since that's what he's focused on, he could be a voice of reason for Hunger and the voters, and he can be around 24/7 helping out.
Drawbacks are he can't teach us much about the praxis, or any other magics. His rulership skill isn't all that important given that Hunger can easily deligate that kind of work to Adorie and others. And having him around means double the Apocryphal Curses.
I'd be fine with him winning but he's no Daylian.
[ ] The Seraph of Heroism, Haeliel [Basic, 50 Arete] / [ ] The Seraph of Herosim, Haeliel [Committed, 200 Arete]
lol 200 arete.
Given that the Spiral (and lots of other magic) lets you sacrifice your name for power Haeliel actually being Caroline is quite possible.
That even
she can't beat the Hidden Ones is impressive. I think they definitely qualify as being powerful enough to curse the Accursed and make it stick.
I think her unusual level of affinity for Hunger has to do with him being a Hero, and Heroism being her remit. Given how disillusioned Hunger became with fate and heroism I think seeing someone who takes that concept seriously, and has the power to back it up, would do him good.
While her gifts are (obviously) good, I don't think they're worth 50 arete. Turning aside one foe per geas task isn't enough when we get Apocryphal procs monthly. Resurrecting Catherine is not my priority but if Haeliel won I'd feel compelled to pick it for characterization reasons, except that would mean ??? for Gisena, and it would all be a mess. The huge powerup she offers is great, but we can't use it until we get a resurrection power as otherwise the risk is too great. Getting the ordinal spire isn't worth it compared to all magics we see around us now, we've already got praxis/signs/findross/runes/edeldross/ring/accretion/ect, so focus on those.
And finally, paying 1/3 of 50 arete just to talk with her is hard to justify. She could probably tell us all sorts of things. Who the hidden ones are, what the Accursed is, all kinds of setting details. And her advice would probably be equivalent to Rihaku telling us the optimal thing to do. But her time is too limited to learn all the lore we want, and I'd prefer to earn those details in-story.
Obviously she's an incredibly good pick, but 50 arete is just too much.
