Shit! I'm late to the party!

[X] Daylian Erranthus [Committed, 7 Arete]

So currently thinking of going with this guy. Why? He has no Apocryphal Curse! Furthermore, we could have Gisena True Nullity his Curses and make him owe us, maybe give us instant access to his magics! Added to that is there are side grade Curse Mitigations so maybe we couldget something makes him listen to us?

His Indenture and Hubris both are already at Stage II mitigation, so it's unlikely that Gisena will be able to provide much more mitigation herself.

My thoughts on each cursebearer:

[ ] Daylian Erranthus [Basic, 0 Arete] / [ ] Daylian Erranthus [Committed, 7 Arete]

An absurd, bombastic, suicidal hero? It's love at first sight.

Hunger, Daylian, and Gisena is a simply incredible combo of insane, risk-taking maniacs. A three-stooges of bad decisions. I need this to happen so, so badly.

So previously I speculated that the Azure Moon held the the Halls of the Lazulite from EFB, and that they were built by a Builder called The Lazulite.

Maybe the Azure moon is where the EFB Fates lived
The Lazulite being a Builder who lived on the Azure moon in the Halls of the Lazulite

This confirms that Lazulite and the color azure, as in Azure moon, are linked. Lazulite is immortal myth, presumably one step up from regular myth.

His "eyes of blue limned in gold" is interesting. Golden findross and azure myth? If his world has both Findross and Lazulite, same as the Voyaging Realm, then I think it's very likely he was on the EFB world. In an EFB world with no titans and no gods he would definitely be the most powerful being.

In the short term, having an expert in Immortal Myth show up would likely hugely simplify our money problems. In the medium term he can show Hunger the consequences of recklessness. And in the long term, as a Progression cursebearer he can keep up. What a great guy!

[ ] Wolber Strobe [Basic, 7 Arete] / [ ] Wolber Strobe [Committed, 12 Arete]

His [A Beautiful Mind], referencing a show about a mental disorder, combined with three curses that isolate him socially, makes me think that he was rather socially isolated even before becoming a cursebearer. Though his personality seems quite different than Seram his lifestyle was likely the same.

He has a very nice quote as well. Not will or determination, but habit, is what makes a person.

I think the best reason to pick him is that he can assist us in mitigating the Apocraphal since that's what he's focused on, he could be a voice of reason for Hunger and the voters, and he can be around 24/7 helping out.

Drawbacks are he can't teach us much about the praxis, or any other magics. His rulership skill isn't all that important given that Hunger can easily deligate that kind of work to Adorie and others. And having him around means double the Apocryphal Curses.

I'd be fine with him winning but he's no Daylian.

[ ] The Seraph of Heroism, Haeliel [Basic, 50 Arete] / [ ] The Seraph of Herosim, Haeliel [Committed, 200 Arete]

lol 200 arete.

Given that the Spiral (and lots of other magic) lets you sacrifice your name for power Haeliel actually being Caroline is quite possible.

That even she can't beat the Hidden Ones is impressive. I think they definitely qualify as being powerful enough to curse the Accursed and make it stick.

I think her unusual level of affinity for Hunger has to do with him being a Hero, and Heroism being her remit. Given how disillusioned Hunger became with fate and heroism I think seeing someone who takes that concept seriously, and has the power to back it up, would do him good.

While her gifts are (obviously) good, I don't think they're worth 50 arete. Turning aside one foe per geas task isn't enough when we get Apocryphal procs monthly. Resurrecting Catherine is not my priority but if Haeliel won I'd feel compelled to pick it for characterization reasons, except that would mean ??? for Gisena, and it would all be a mess. The huge powerup she offers is great, but we can't use it until we get a resurrection power as otherwise the risk is too great. Getting the ordinal spire isn't worth it compared to all magics we see around us now, we've already got praxis/signs/findross/runes/edeldross/ring/accretion/ect, so focus on those.

And finally, paying 1/3 of 50 arete just to talk with her is hard to justify. She could probably tell us all sorts of things. Who the hidden ones are, what the Accursed is, all kinds of setting details. And her advice would probably be equivalent to Rihaku telling us the optimal thing to do. But her time is too limited to learn all the lore we want, and I'd prefer to earn those details in-story.

Obviously she's an incredibly good pick, but 50 arete is just too much.

669 words.

Wolber is such a good choice. Not only is he almost guaranteed to be relevant against most opponents even with Hunger's absolutely ludicrous degree of scaling, he's also the safest option easily. Daylian represents someone willing to YOLO with even the Shard or Armaments, because he thinks he's roughly 1000% more powerful than he currently is. It commits us to either letting him die or confronting each Apocryphal proc in the most thoughtless manner possible.

As for Haeliel, she's great but also extremely, absurdly expensive and I'm not sure if we could ever afford her. Wolber strikes a great balance, leaving us enough Arete to purchase Fisher King while also providing significant value. The chance for good counsel or knowledge of the powers available to the Imperial are both extremely valuable boons, as is his advice in developing a lifestyle more suitable for Praxis advancement.

C'mon people, sign up with the W O L B E R FORCE today!

Thinking in terms of debt is the wrong way to engage with Daylian, he's a forthright hero who volunteered to help Apocryphal Cursebearers. The Lazulite Sigil seems strong, but the Ring of Blood provides Hunger with healing already. If you're angling for unlocks, the Seraph offers tutelage in the Ordinal Spiral, which is a great system for larger parties. It rewards specialization, each member can focus on different Ordinals. Honestly, Haeliel's character is glorious in its own right, but the Spiral's one of the juiciest magics we've ever seen, and a large part of her appeal is getting access to it again.

[X] Wolber Strobe [Committed, 12 Arete]
There's a few major advantages to this guy. One, he won't accelerate Hungers already nigh-suicidal drive. Because if you think Hunger or the thread will learn to pace themselves with an even more reckless companion then you're kidding yourself.

Two, this is our best chance to get a look a "pure" Imperial Praxis Build. Which means we have less reason to vote to try it out just to see how it works. Based of him we should be able more accurate judgements on its utility.

Three, it's possible he might be able to induct people into the praxis, now or in the future. Hooking up Gisena/our Wife/not Aobaru/other companions with it could be very valuable. Hell, a civilization of Praxis users would bassically by Foremost and their useful as fuck.

Four, Because Hunger is a Proggesion type he can exceed Wolbers growth rate and capacities. This means he is both capable of trivializing his Apocryphal procs and helping him progress much faster than he otherwise would. Because of this Wolber has a strong incentive to like and accommodate Hunger.

Five, a guy for our party who might actually be something like an equal? I'm here for it!

Six, we should have enough Arete for Fisherking if we pick this.

[X] The Seraph of Heroism, Haeliel [Basic, 50 Arete]

Getting Hungers Wife back before he falls too deep for Gisena would be very valuable, in my mind. It would also create a rare dynamic, Husband and Wife are unusual in these kinds of stories.

Also, she's obviously and massively better than every other option, that goes without saying.
Her Advice in particular seems like the area where we can make Bank. "How the fuck does Findross work Helial-chan?! Is Aobaru worst boy? Just how much better is Gisena than everyone else?"

Y'know what would be rad? If the two we don't pick end up being partnered together. Somewhat less probably in Haeliel's case but the thought of Wolber and Daylian being a dynamic buddy Cursebearer duo traveling through realities together is just delightful to me.

Hunger was the Chosen Hero of his previous world, so I wonder if her ability to empower Heroes would still work on him? We'd be rolling the dice with an appreciable chance of death again, but it's nothing Hunger's not done before. There's always Aobaru to experiment on, though, he could use a boost before the terminator arrives. Getting the equivalent of three Lesser Wishes for one LW and fifty Arete is a bargain, to my mind.

[X] The Seraph of Heroism, Haeliel [Basic, 50 Arete]

Okay wow, gonna go with Haeliel for now? Obviously the best option if we can afford her and s'not like she's gonna take focus away from secondary characters like my girl Aeira, her time's limited.

This is a strong argument: maybe the party is full and we shouldn't bring on any full time Companions. We already can't bring everybody at the same time with Nightmare Flight. Undying Vanguard is at max capacity, also.

It's worth paying a premium for a character that won't cramp our style too much

Also, there's only so much narrative attention in an update and story, we're reaching the limits of it already. Look back at the first ten or so updates, where our Gisena and Letrizia could be interwoven with the narrative consistently, it felt like they were there, around and available.

I don't think we've had a real talk with Aobaru in maybe three updates? Even then it wasn't very deep.

Narrative attention is a very scarce resource and should be handled with care.

Gisena is more or less locked in as a long term companion unless she dies, letrizia is at least a medium term companion since we're going to be dealing with her through out the Sci-Fi realm.

Aobaru and Aeria are both much smaller characters, and Adorie seems like she'll be falling off pretty soon since we're leaving the Themepark Realm soon.

If we pick up Hungers Wife, or Wolber, or a similar companion we're going to have to be careful with maintaining the narrative space for them to shine.

Hmm. Considering this was the result of a Lesser Wish proc, we really should take as best advantage as we can. Haeliel would be ideal, of course, considering how she'd probably scale further than any of the others (and allow our companions to keep up!) but Wolber wouldn't be a bad choice either, considering how we already know that empowering others is well within the abilities of the Praxis.

[The Azure Hero]: Daylian wields geokinesis and healing magics on a cosmic scale. He may summon, banish, create and manipulate the arcane substance Lazulite, an azure stone infused with powers from immortal myth, granting access to a fairly broad range of effects.

One of the benefits of Daylian, he might be able to further accelerate our Signs Advancement by shovelling in a fucktillion tons of his mythic rocks into our Cloak. Just need some way of returning the favour, probably Pillars.

Hey, now that we have Renaissance Woman, we should have level 2 Geas Mitigation automatically. Does this mean if we get Daylian we can help him out of situations he caused by his own Hubris?

The thing about trump cards is that each one makes all the others more valuable, With ADS and Deathly Laser and Silver and Armour of Midnight (assuming we get it), we've already filtered out all but the most apocalyptic threats already, the sort that might only come about once or twice in even the most extended Geas tasks. To be able to add an ultimate layer to all the defenses we develop is invaluable.

More importantly, this also protects Hunger from any fuckups or bits of poor decision making on our part!

Fifty Arete, so if we pick her and kill ourselves with Arete overload does she resurrect us on the spot?

Probably not wise to find out, but sorely tempting, in that morbid way.

I think Daylian is too much of a liability, and worse, a chore to vote around. Endearing perhaps the first few times, but I imagine Hunger getting quite tired of his Jenkins impressions.

I'm settling in on our wretched friend Wolber. Though is having him committed worse for us than basic? I'm not sure, but it was a thought I had. Regardless, he does solid work at an affordable price, and sometimes that's just what you need.

With him being a combat type, the good news is that after we outscale him his Apocryphal procs should be a flick of our wrist, so that's something to look forward to.

Him having access to our Realm of the Evening shouldn't be underestimated either, we have quite the research corp going on and he would be well at home there.
