Lord of a Fief Quest [Xianxia/Western Fantasy Fusion, CK2-ish]

[X][Cores] Eat none of the cores.

[X][Recipe Book] Yes (??? effects)

[X][Orcs] Yes

Unlike the last one it doesn't add as significant a value. We don't have much in the way of ranged stuff, but its not an active weakness either. We literally have people for that, whereas we can't really have someone else dodge for our slow wood ass.

I do not want to use the book until we have time to look it over and try to see if there are any traps in it beyond the human recipe that we removed. Eating only the cultivator nets us a ranged attack and a good amount of power at a low level of corruption.

All these hearts were really a cover for the fact you wanted was the spirit cores of cultivators.

It was too bad you common orcs had the power to be worth consuming.
Missing a few words:
for the fact (that) you wanted
It was too bad (for) you common orcs
What cores do you eat?

[ ][Cores] The orc cultivator and the common cores. (+8 Corruption, +40 Power, Firelord's Wrath [Fireball Technique])
[ ][Cores] Eat none of the cores.
No option to just eat the common Cores and leave the Orc fire cultivator's alone?

Don't have much interest in us going Ranged with an element opposite our main Wood one. Also remember eating Cores is addictive, and this one doesn't really seem attractive enough to warrant increasing our addiction.

Going to need to raise a large number of mortal troops this winter.

@ChaosCircle are there any "cheap" one use talismans? Giving mortals a "grenade" or life saving option could be cool.

Guys, for those voting to eat more Cores, please remember there have been plenty of warnings on the consequences. We haven't tried researching on mitigating them yet, don't go overboard.

Similarly, while Orcs have access to cultivation it is purely of the "I eat you" kind of which overuse and/or misue (which is why it was good you didn't eat the Outsider) can lead to someone becoming a legitimate monster

You also stole and pocketed a few common spirit cores from the dying, a part of you curious as to the power boost they'd provide you if you ate them. You hungered for such things now, craved them.
Eating Cores not only accumulates Corruption, stunting our Cultivation future growth, it also makes us literally monstrous as our hunger for more turns into a full-blown addiction.

The main benefit for this Core is the Firelord's Wrath ability, which honestly doesn't really seem like a priority for Bai Shen as he's mainly a close combat fighter, and that's been working fine.

You act like we're getting showered by cores. Once we're back in our fief we will not be able to go hunting for cores whenever we want, so there will naturally be a lull in consumption of them. Not to mention it's exactly because Bai Shen has little in the way of ranged attacks that gaining a long ranged ability is smart. If you know your opponent is deadly at close range, but helpless at long range you obviously try to attack him at range.

we're a wood cultivator, a fire technique will either be really weak in our hands or hurt our cultivation. I don't want to eat cores unless we get something that goes with our skills

Just to be clear, vulnerabilities don't harm your ability to use techniques. Its a vulnerability of Ironwood Fortress (your primary defense and primary offense) not a problem for your entire cultivation base.

Still don't like the fireball, doesn't work with our current skill set. If it was anything else I might say yes, plus I don't want to up the corruption too much right now

Versatility is useful though. At the worst, it's still a technique in our arsenal, and a sizeable power boost for minimal effort.
The main point of contention for me is the lack of thematic cohesion if we do take Firelord's Wrath. While yes, it adds versatility to our arsenal with Ranged attacks, it feels slightly weird to be throwing fireballs before charging into battle under Ironwood armor.

Furthermore in regards to power boosts, Orc Raids will be happening every season and this isn't the last Bai Shen will participate against one. We have ample opportunities to gain more in the future, there isn't much of a priority to consume every Core we get our hands on.

I'm mainly advocating for us to be more picky and have standards on when we consume a Core, this time it seems to be less optimal.

A cheap fireball is not worth the corruption points. If we eat a core next time it damn well be a Divine Tiger, Wyrm-Dragon or Roc-Leviathan.

We need the boost in power and I want to see what effect the cook book has. Hopefully it eases some of the corruption.
