Also, is it possible to ignore clubs for a day and just hang out with someone? Get to know someone from our class? Watch Isolia think of some use for her mind magic, perhaps testing an idea of using them to pass messages or bring an item from a narrow passage?
I kinda second wanting to hang out with Simony... when it doesn't involve desecrating tombs and getting ripped off. But I suppose those interactions will have to fall mostly under the Exploration Club activities.

Simony is a busy guy. You could dedicate an action to trying to chase him down and talk to him, if you want, but there'd be no guarantee of success. Or you could attend the Explorers/Archaeologists Club or the Apathy Society, both of which he is known to regularly attend.
QM:you are a novice mage that just started learning magic. What do you do with your time?
Questers: experiment blindly on the most dangerous form of magic available, of course!
Do another of the group magic session, where each of us tries to think of/practice specific applications of the spells they know... and maybe find their and extend their limitations.
Right now I am thinking about Isolia. Why does she only know how to control vermin, but not other animals? How far does her control go? Can animals understand her? She said she used to put on a show with them, but how complex was it?
Well that, and just spend some time with her talking about what she is doing on weekends. Come to think of it, we mostly talk with Phil.
[X] Create an illusory version of one of your teammates (basically a statue, since it will be unable to move).
- We learned how to do this from practicing our teammates' cantrips, so it seems like a cool thing most other students won't manage.
I feel like we should be trying to advance the various plot lines we have. QM, could we ask the Bladderwrack coach for Hubris's contact info? He's a battle wizzard and the Bladderwack coach is also a battle wizard teacher if I remember right?
On the other hand, maybe we should practice rescuing kobolds before we make another try for Philander's sisters. Unfortunately, the only ideas I have for that involve wandering in that general direction and seeing what happens or asking Venta to ask her family for advice. Uh, I guess we could visit the library and see if there's a spell to tell where a pebble came from so we can take the kobold pebbles back?
Plan makers remember we have these actions available too
[] Get personal tuition from Green Flame (gain 2xp towards Ritual Magic, Mental Defence, or Literacy)
[] Call in a favour from Anthikares Neroth. (Write in: what do you want to ask him for?)
[] Socialize with the other members of Cadre 1F.
[] Visit the school library. (Write in: what do you want to research?)*
[] Studying: learn Alchemy with Cadre 1F
[] From now on, you will be able to revisit the Astronomy Club at any time, helping them to assemble the parts for their space gonne, thereby gaining xp towards Knowledge, Mechanics, and Ritual Magic.
In past plans, we've specified that we were doing group study on some subjects, e.g. We might want to do that again unless we're assuming all study actions are cadre actions now.
Studying: learn Alchemy with Cadre 1F
Goblins are cool and good. I'd love chances to spend more time with Venta.
Explorer's Club is on Fourday, so we can pop it into the extra Rest period we have.
Green Flame is currently helping Isolia with her Literacy, so I don't want to take up more of her time.
I think experimenting with time magic should wait until we're good enough with magic to cast more than cantrips, especially since if we screw up we'll be instantly killed by time elves. I think the school might offer it as a subject in one of the later years.

I don't have much interest in the other clubs (Board Game Club, Duelling Club, Literature Club, Poetry Club, Music Club, and School Choir) so this would clear out the Looking at Clubs subplot for me.

I'm assuming that all study actions are group actions unless it makes sense to do otherwise (for example, if the other members of Cadre 1F don't want to spend extra time studying alchemy).

Drastically necessary in this case! And likely to produce the same results as Hermione's attempt, though more because wizards are jerks than anything else, which is more respectable than "the elves like being slaves, actually"
Vote closed. All right, we're going with Indivisible's plan. For homework, you will Create an illusory version of one of your teammates (basically a statue, since it will be unable to move).
Also, it is likely that I will use this post to roll some dice.

At the beginning of your fourth week at the academy, you attract some very dubious looks from passers-by as you carry an illusory sculpture of one of your teammates with you to Professor Glossoloria's Ritual Magic lesson. There, you proudly show off how well and imaginatively you have completed the homework. The other pupils have brought with them a motley collection of illusory books, pillows, pots, and other commonplace household objects; your creation is quite clearly the most exciting, and everybody else crowds around to take look at it. In particular, Isolia raises her eyebrows, Philander has a fit of hysterical laughter, and Venta is mortified when she sees that you have captured her likeness in the form of an unreal statue. She sinks very low behind her desk, folding her arms over her head, as though trying to hide herself.
'It's not a very good likeness,' says Athamas Cardos, frowning. 'I mean, it's obvious who it's meant to be, but it doesn't look very much like her.'
'Now, there's no need to be overly critical,' says the Professor. 'This is the first time I've asked you to do anything like this, after all. I think it's an excellent first attempt, very imaginative and thought-provoking. It certainly seems to have prompted quite a lot of discussion.'
You are willing to admit that the spellwork you put into creating and maintaining the illusion could be improved. It seemed fine when you first set it up, but overnight it has developed an annoying habit of occasionally flickering and changing shape – as if your teammate were being squashed, or stretched, or compressed into a smaller space – before suddenly returning to normal. Also, you think that some of the colours have drained out of it, leaving it greyer and less lifelike than before.
Peeking out from behind her hands, Venta moans, 'Why did you have to make it a statue of me? Wouldn't it have been easier if it had been Phil? I mean, you share a dorm room with him – you see him all the time!'
'You've got a more interesting face,' you tell her truthfully.
'Hah! "Interesting" is one of those euphemism words, isn't it?' Baring her cute little fangs, Venta vents her anger at you: 'Like when people say "she's got a nice personality" or "lovely hair" when really they mean "that girl is ugly as sin!"'
'I don't think you're ugly,' you tell her. 'I think you're a lovely girl, very pretty.'
She sinks even lower in her chair and buries her face in her hands again. You glance around in confusion, mystified by the sniggering from some of your classmates and Professor Glossoloria's muttered comment: 'Ugh. I don't normally have to worry about their teenage hormones this early on.'
'Keep digging, mate,' Phil tells you. 'You'll reach the southern tip of Anakwaan eventually. I hear it's nice there.'
You never really learn what that was about. The rest of the lesson passes more-or-less uneventfully, with Professor Glossoloria getting you to practice crafting different kinds of illusions, review your own work, and comment on what your peers have accomplished. All in all, quite a productive morning.
You can use Ritual Magic to create illusions, but the DC will be different each time depending on how large and detailed the illusion is, how long you want to maintain it, and how many of the five basic senses you want it to fool.
During your study period that day, your female teammates share with you their recipe for a healing potion (which consists of blessed spring water, catnip, peppermint, sage, and sunflower oil, as well as an infusion of curative magic) and you share yours with them. Venta still doesn't seem to have entirely forgiven you for whatever you did wrong earlier, but at least she is willing to talk to you.
This is the recipe which your female teammates came up with:
- Blessed spring water
- Catnip
- Peppermint
- Sage
- Sunflower oil
- Curative magic
At your current level of skill, you can use this recipe to make a Potion of Lesser Healing which will restore 1d3 hp to whoever drinks it. However, it won't reduce Fatigue.
Also, it has a specialty: cure disease. (The effects of potions are doubled when they are used for something which their specialties apply to.)
Dorian will get 2xp towards Ritual Magic for attending the morning session.
He'll get 1xp towards Alchemy because that was what the study session was focused on.
He won't gain any xp towards Mental Defence because I rolled too low. (2d6+3 = 8)
From his Gardening session in the afternoon/early evening, he'll gain 1xp towards Durability, but no extra Knowledge because I rolled too low (2d6+2 = 9).
On Twoday morning, you are overjoyed to learn that Isolia's ability to read and write has progressed to the point where even the usually grumpy Professor Apollinus Witt has nothing but praise for her.
'By Keron's snot! I think she's got it!' he cries out, after listening to her read out a randomly-selected passage from a history textbook. He plasters a very disturbing smile over his craggy face, the kind of smile which an axe murderer might wear while announcing that he's going to kill your entire family, and says, 'Well done, young lady!'
'I can't take all of the credit,' Isolia says modestly. 'My teammates gave me a lot of help. And my group tutor, Green Flame–'
'Ah, yes. Well, that's what teammates are for,' he says, his smile abruptly disappearing. 'It is wise of you to make good use of the resources you have.' He gives a nod to her written work. 'I hope you'll have finished that by the end of the lesson.'
'I will!' she assures him, picking up her quill and getting on with it.
By the time that afternoon's study period comes around, you are in quite a celebratory mood, although you are forced to stay quiet and get on with your own reading and writing practice after you are given a firm reprimand by Professor Quazellian, the staff member on duty. Even so, it isn't enough to dampen your spirits: Isolia has learnt how to read and write, a barrier to her future progress has been removed, and you feel an overwhelming sense of relief that you won't have to devote so many of these sessions to literacy from now on. Surely that is something worth rejoicing about?
Dorian has gained 3xp towards Literacy because he spent the first lesson and study period working on it.
From his practising Mental Defence at mealtimes, he'll gain 1xp towards that. (Just barely. I rolled 2d6+3 =10)
You are still in a buoyant mood by the time you go to the school's Mathematics Club that evening. Philander has agreed to accompany you. Perhaps he's genuinely interested, but more likely he didn't have anything better to do, was bored and wanted some company.
The members of the Mathematics Club have gathered outside the school's main lecture theatre. Seeing you new arrivals, the club president, Elantria Jabtoreth, comes over to speak to you. Although you haven't met her before, you've seen her around and you know of her by reputation. Apparently, her father is that rarest of things: a foreigner who, by dint of his fearsome intelligence, audacity, and charisma, has managed to earn the favour of the Emperor himself and been granted a highly sought-after position in the imperial court. After his daughter developed magical talents of her own, there was no other solution but that she should go to the most prestigious school of sorcery in the entire empire: the Tyrepheum Academy of the Magical Arts. You've overheard some of the older noble-born pupils muttering spiteful things about her "jumped-up merchant" father, or her skin colour – she's half-Varzi and her father is apparently as "black as coal" – but you've always thought that she moves with dignity, elegance, and refinement enough to put all of her detractors to shame. (Although, if you mentioned that within earshot of Professor Glossoloria, she'd probably start muttering about "hormones" again. You've no idea why.)
'Good evening, both of you,' she says, giving you a respectful nod. 'If you're here to join the Mathematics Club, perhaps tonight isn't the best night for it. We're having a lecture by a guest speaker, talking to us about how the ongoing wars and the debasement of the currency have affected – and will continue to affect – the Sambian Empire's economy. You're welcome to stay, if that has any appeal for you, but you won't get a taste of what we normally do at these meetings.'
'And what do you normally do?' asks Phil.
'It depends. We tend to split into groups to work on different projects. Currently, we are collaborating with the Astronomy Club, assisting Jaqari Pruyte with the mathematical principles behind his "giant space gonne" – which is fascinating, don't you think?'
You and your teammate both agree.
'Also, we usually have a group dedicated to studying alchemical formulae, trying to work out exactly what ratio of ingredients – physical, magical, and spiritual – gives the best results. We have advice sessions for pupils who are struggling to pay their school fees, helping them with budgeting and suggestions for how they can make money safely and legally, but not usually until later in the school year. And there are some of us who apply principles of geometry to arcane circles and diagrams, trying to make ritual magic as efficient as possible. Would any of that be of interest to you?'

Dice said it was your turn, embarrassing you was not what I expected to happen.
...If it makes you feel any better, I voted for the pillow.
Solid chapter, I liked the increase in pacing
[X] Attend the lecture about economics.
I'm game for the math.
Phil's lack of jealously was a touch surprising to me. I expected him to try and claim the credit for the illusion. Perhaps he has more subtlety than I expected.

Ah, yes! Found the other half of the alchemy club. Gardening for ingredients, Math club for recipes. Got to start doing this every week.
[X] Attend the lecture about economics.
[X] Do something else, but promise to come back to the Mathematics Club another time.
I'm down for economics. It's going to be important for Dorian, but I understand its not everyone's cup of tea.
The efficient ritual magic is nice, but Dorian's best stat is magic. And he's half-Elf. I'd bet he's got enough power he doesn't need to be super efficient. I like it, but I'm not sure it's the best use of our time. Its not bad, but I'd rather do more alchemy.
We focus much on alchemy, but ritual magic opens up every other magic skill. We really should work on it.
[X] Do something else, but promise to come back to the Mathematics Club another time.
[X] Do some schoolwork.

The math club seems great, but economy isn't so useful right now.
Better spend that time learning, or talking to green flame.
We will get enough xp to try level literacy next lesson, so dedicating time for this now isn't very helpful
