Remember guys.

We haven't gotten a reward for saving the ring.

Letrizia's soup is worth 1 arete because that's our reward.

right guys

guys?

Subordination would buy you guys much-needed breathing room in exchange for an extremely manageable downside that'll only manifest in the mid to long term anyway! Think of all the fanwork creators who have poured their hearts out into the task of your survival - should you not maximize the gains fostered thereof?

Yeah, let it rest... basically seems like it validates the fact this was a mad venture. When you risk so much, generally you want amazing rewards if you succeed. Rest gives honestly very little payoff.

Ruler and Vassal has a relationship that is against the superior being malicious, and for the vassal to not shirk their duties.

It doesn't run into the issue of tyranny, and it also doesn't run into the issue of barely any gains for so much effort. I'll note that unlike Let it Rest, Ruler and Vassal gives the Ringbearer rapidly scaling growth, and long-term potential is a big deal.

As for Peerless Grace, my reason is simple. Hunger must be tired after this tough battle. He deserves some soup.

Cheapest and safest option. I'm iffy with Subordination but I am also really tempted by its sheer power and the fact its capable of discounting an EFB.

But man this make me want to go around and find rings to subjugate because each one seems to give power to the superior ring.

Yoooo Azure, calm down dude. I guess a ring can't just eat a snickers and chill out?? But we can feed it Sten instead, between that and R&V it should be safe for Gisena to wear

To be honest, while Letrizia being happy and all is nice, grinding 1 Arete is a pretty huge amount of time in the Arete mines already so I think it's best to reduce the effort we have to spend down in those pits. Also, Verschlengorge deserves some entertainment! I'm picking Eminence cause the Crimson Ring waking and delivering such a sick speech is pretty cool and I have my heart set on the Ruling Ring anyway, so I consider this a long-term investment.

Not super keen on extracting as much power from the Ring as possible; we just saved it from slavery, I would rather not take it from one master and put it under the dominion of another. There may have been only one Lord of the Rings, but let us not forget the Dark Lord eventually fell.

Of the disposition votes only Let it Rest specifies that Hunger will assign a Ringbearer. However, the phrasing implies that the other versions do the same, but with a shorter leash.

Will we get a say in who the ringbearer is?

In theory, yes. In reality, soon in place of a Sorceress you will set up a Queen! And she shall not be dark, but beautiful and terrible as the morning and the night! Fair as the sea and the sun and the lilac upon the field!

SOUP

I think that taking the soft angle with the Azure Ring will spare us some future issues for sure, given how Apocryphal is likely to pry open any cracks we leave for it. And I'd accept Ruler & Vassal as well, as long as it's paired with Eminence or Avenger.

Hunger's desire for soup should very much be taken into account. Perhaps in wake of such ponderous travails it'll even grant him some bonus +Mental Stability?

[X] Oops, the Soup

Friendship ended with Letrizia, Verschlengorge is my waifu now.

[X] The Blade

The Eminence is a bit more cruel than I expected, and in the end I'm fine with the blade.

[X] Ruler & Vassal

Subordination is viable, but I see this vote as being partially about establishing how Hunger relates to his subjects, both human and otherwise. Given that someday he'll be ruling worlds this is important! This fits how I'd prefer Hunger to rule.

[X] Oops, the Soup - Letrizia knocked over the soup while in the midst of her Sharpbright-empowered fantasies. No soup for you. [+1 Arete, Letrizia is sad, Verschlengorge is amused]

It's free Arete!

[X] The Avenger

Live and grow strong. So let's take the guaranteed victory, so that we may live and finally get out of this stupid Temple.

[X] Let It Rest

The Azure ring has suffered enough, let it rest.

It's a Ring not a human, so as with Verschlengorge human psychology doesn't apply. It being a moral imperative that we end the torture doesn't necessitate that the Ring needs to be inactive to recover.

[X] Oops, the Soup
[X] The Blade
[X] Let It Rest

I am going with this for now, I may change my vote on ring status later, I do want to avoid subordination. I think it would be nice to give the ring a rest given everything that has happened to it and I can't help but wonder what it would mean to rise above the contest of primacy and create a brotherhood of allied rings.

I think I'm actually ok with any of the build options. The Blade seems the cleanest of them, but has the issue of being yet more focus on the Forbear. The Eminence pushes Hunger along, but is the cruelest. Avenger is very rarely useful, but is exceptionally so when it does trigger.

[ ] Peerless Grace - Letrizia coincidentally effortlessly dodged the soup, as a properly-trained pilot and ballroom dancer ought! Soup for Hunger, should he live. [Verschlengorge is bored & hungry]

Somehow, I am both offended and amused by this, and I have no idea why. I guess I'll just say "thanks, I hate it." Anyway, on to the actual things.

[X] The Blade

I've made my dislike of Passion and Avenger clear in the past, nothing has changed.

[X] Let It Rest

This is a suboptimal choice. I think Ruler and Vassal is optimal, providing so much better benefits while also not making the ring go evil. However, I just can't find it in me to ask anything of a torture victim, no matter how optimal the moderate route is. My Heartlessness score is 0.

Also, the Eminence has at least a 70% chance of victory and builds into a path I actually want as opposed to an effect that will only trigger like 20% of the time at best so I consider those odds very favorable for us.

What Would the Forebear Do?

[X] Peerless Grace
[X] The Blade
[X] Ruler & Vassal

Fairly sure on the Blade and Rihaku outright said in Discord that he would be unwilling to let himself be deprived of soup. Going with Ruler and Vassal for now since Subordination seems to be cruelty derived from the perception of necessity while the Forebear was too mighty for that nonsense. I guess you could argue that we're not as strong as he is so cruelty on our part still has it's place. On the other hand, that sounds like an excuse and we all know what he thought about excuses...

It is best one keeps to one's deals.

Hatefullness can be reduced with other means for a time and I am leery of maximizing the Ring's suffering.

Rest is pretty nice in potentially the very long term, but comparatively useless right now, yeah. It's not like the Ring normally gets exhausted by using it properly, only... unnatural extraction has such consequences! And even that didn't do any truly lasting harm. Rings are hard to wound, harder still to destroy - perhaps well beyond the vagaries of this modest Realm.

A dangerous habit to have!

Indeed, I think many overlook that making an example of Sten now will pacify the Azure Ring's hatefulness to a larger degree than the Blade! Is it not fitting that the chief eminence of a society so focused on the greater good should become subject to its opposite face at last?

Also, Verschlengorge deserves some entertainment!

Years of boredom are but an eyeblink in its nigh-eternal span!

Soup = food scene

Hey, this is a safe for work board!

Why are you Let It Rest voters treating the Ring as human? Not to sound bad but treating it nicely reduces what we can get from it and if you are worried about the Hatefulness remember that Gisenna has Nullity to moderate its effect. At least pick Ruler and Vassal.

I'm voting the same but I gotta tell you this isn't gonna persuade anyone to flip votes

Oh, I'm dead certain that Ruler and Vassal is the most optimal choice, the best choice even. I'm just too nice for Hunger's own good...
