I'm not gonna lie.

The ability to Snap Buy improvements is pretty amazing. That said, I don't know how well-suited Undying Vanguard is for our current situation. We've got more people that can be protected under Hunger's aegis, but we'd probably benefit more out of it once we get the picks that'll let us survive the temple's innards.

On that note, I really wanna buy Dreadnought and Iron Curtain since they're the most Arete heavy options at the moment if we want to follow through with the idea of combing its effects with Stranglethorn, whose downsides have more or less been countered by our Adept Edeldross.

...did I just spell it right.

The apocryphal curse waits for no one, our allies may need our aegis precisely as we're playing in the Temple...

With Unelemental on that one.

Letrizia and Gisena would be protected for sure, given we've got solid and tangible +s with them. We've yet to actually get any form of +Aeira yet in terms of relationship, thus applicable loyalty is suspect in terms of UVanguard.

I find myself without strong opinions on this vote. All the potential outcomes seem good enough, and I don't have a strong preference.

I guess it's nice to have a chill low-stakes vote cycle after Omakestorm 2 and the great EFB fight.

Vote for Vanguard then! Apocryphal is about to start triggering again and we're leaving Zea outside by herself! Bearic might have finished grinding by now, so scaling protection, constitution and regeneration based on companion loyalty would make her a lot safer and make Gisena less likely to die from collateral damage.

Since we bought Crimson, I think we should be able to heal Ver to something like Rank 6.5 without much trouble, at which point Letrizia having Hunger-level stats would probably be irrelevant for her safety.

When we were fighting Bearic he somehow injured Zea while she was still in the cockpit. Giving her regen and making her as difficult to kill as we are would make her a lot safer, especially since we won't get a chance to buff Versch until we've finished the inner temple.

Honestly, if need comes within the next two days then I think we can come up with the Arete in the next 2/3 updates. Right now, I think the most important thing is maximizing success chance for Avecarn so that we're not too wounded to protect them when the Apocryphal does strike.

We could just get Ennoble(provided this ends up being social encounter) and then use that to buff them. Or get healing thing and heal Verse to like 6.5 and have him beat the shit of whatever attacks Letrizia. Both can be refunded after we clear Temple too.

Man, imagine if we could refund some of earlier purchases.

Although you might want to S A V E if we want to get both.

Sounds good, 12 arete spending plan it is then!

Neither of those buff Zea at the moment since Ennobling takes several weeks to become permamanent and needs two picks and we'll be in the inner temple by the time we can pick it or the healing option up.

We don't need to make it permanent tho? We just want to have her buffed.
and needs two picks and we'll be in the inner temple by the time we can pick it or the healing option up.
And there is nothing stopping us from going back to buff and farm Vigor Incarnate and then coming back in. Our time limit is off so we don't need to be super efficient with our time usage.

Again, we may just need the MDS now in order to better crush Avecarn while mitigating the actual risk Apocryphal procs present! Making this encounter riskier so that later encounters are less risky is a fair tradeoff, but MDS does both!

I'm assuming that the non permanent buff wears off if we're not nearby to keep it up but it's not totally clear from the description.

After we face down gramps aren't we committed to scouting out the inner temple first?

Well, we had originally came up with the plan of infiltrating the Temple with this encounter possibly facilitating that, which would likely involve our companions coming with us. However, this would not be the first time a complication arising had Rihaku allow us to change our long term plans.

"Permanent" refers to it working forever and getting passed off to offspring. There's no real reason why we would need to actively maintain buff.

Because Hunger doesn't think that Letrizia in any specific danger and has no way to deal with it. If argument is that she is, then we heal Verse and that's that.

Then we refund Arete spent to get Pillars or whatever.

Approval voting for now, Guile because it gives the higher chance of a diplomatic victory (also I don't think Magic Defeating Stance will be of much use during this fight or Rihaku would have offered it to us before) and Vanguard both because it's absolutely broken on our most trusted allies now that we got Rank 7 regen from Crimson Flare (though I wonder, how much of that regen could we grant our allies even without Vanguard?), allowing them to participate during a possible Avecarn fight much more effectively, and because it only costs 5 Arete, giving us a (scarce) possibility we might be able to get a 7 Arete pick after beating Avecarn, and I'm pretty sure we'll find lots of useful stuff to choose from there.

Maybe we'll also find a fantastic 3-picks or 4-picks choice that doesn't require Arete, but I'd rather keep all of our options open if we can.

Think about how good mitigating Apoc is! The only reason we were forced to go to the Temple was the need to outscale Ber who was an Apocryphal proc. You can even think of the Temple as one big Apocryphal Curse encounter! Speaking for the long term, the Apocryphal Curse has the highest chance of killing us out of any source and we need to put a clamp on it right now

Magic defeating passively protects from soul evocations and offensive rank like Gramps is using and the 5 times power of ruin against magic effects will be useful to get through his defensive pressure if this comes down to a fight.

I wonder though, if it was so useful how come Rihaku didn't offer it to us when we had to make the Greed/Safe/Maximum Safety choice? We don't know much of how Avecarn fights, and though Magic Defeating Stance certainly won't be useless I'd rather only spend 7 Arete if we're increasing our chances with the best possible outcome (diplomatic victory) and conserve at least a bit of the Arete otherwise.

Also, Guile will be seriously useful if we don't plan to reach the Inner Temple guns blazing and fighting everyone that comes our way. Especially now that we've discovered there's hints of some inside turmoil, we need to uncover the schemes of those who will most certainly oppose us to make them lose approval and more easily bring the rest of the Temple residents to our side.
