Is it just me, or is Meditations on the Sword an ironic title when Blademight 2.0 didn't make the cut during consolidation?

[X] Study the Blood
[X] Heedless War

Anyway, looks like the Echoes are better in general for survivability even with the Lingering Paralysis debuff. Tempted to talk to Letrizia for the delicious world-building information (and will, if Heedless is eliminated), but if we're making a beeline for Ruling Ring we need all the power we can get, there's no excuse for assuming any additional risk with this much greed. Index should also be complete, tag me if I've missed anything.

And another omake done! It's a lot of fun thinking up and writing new powers, i can see why Rihaku does it. I just have no idea how he can manage to do so for an extended period of time.

Titanic Ascension (1942 words)

---

Nameless meditated inside the Tower of Truth. The chrono-reactor inside of him made active cultivation unnecessary, and thus, he was instead using his time to study the diagram.

Achieving titanic ascension was a process that should take millennia. For Nameless, it could be done in a fraction of the time, that was even more true when utilizing the hybridization of diagrams, he had come up with a number of novel ways to do so.

Temporally changing his form to that of an elder beast, creating an hybrid of force and essence that amplified the gain of essence of all and nothingness on top of the chrono-reactor, an hybrid of essence and stone that allowed him to conceptually refine his essence, and diverse other diagrams, allowed Nameless to achieve the cusp of Titanhood in a matter of subjective weeks.

Then, finally, Nameless entirely focused into the self. To become a Titan in truth was a somewhat delicate process, taking all the effort of his mind. After a subjective eternity, the process was done, reality itself reacting to the birth of a new titan, the power of the tower of truth increasing further.

Eventually, Nameless left the tower, atop a throne of stars, wearing a crown of light, a halo like the nighttime sky, now, he was both a titan and a philosopher-king.

---

Nameless has chosen to take [X]To Grasp Logos as his grand diagram of essence, and [X] Titanic Ascension.

What path of Titanhood Nameless has taken?

[ ] Go BeyondA star: Nameless aligns his inner realm with the Tower of Truth, turning them into a single greater diagram. Greatly improves To Grasp Logos's power, doubling all of its current effects.

Emanation: Throne of stars, True.

Greatly expands Throne of star's reality effects, making it so that all offensive and defensive diagram spells are treated as 1 stage above Nameless's own(with potentiation boosting it to 2 stages), on top of that, greatly enhances the exoteric effects of all diagrams, and further increases all diagrams by 2 steps.

Extrusion: To Grasp Logos.

The extrusion is Nameless himself, his own body tied to the tower of Truth and becoming the diagram of To Grasp Logos.

Incarnation: The brightest star.

The diagram itself becomes Nameless's incarnation. All of it is greatly enhanced, power made manifest, the ultimate manifestation of Nameless's self.

While powerful, this represents the end of Nameless's path into cultivation. A diagram is formed, and forever more, that is the furthest reach that Nameless will reach with this art.

*Cheap, simple and powerful. Finishes cultivation, and makes Nameless devote all of his time towards artifact construction and diagram research.

*Synergetic with Truth and True Incarnation, giving 0.25 effective stages if one has access to both.

[ ] Go Further Beyond - A constellation: Nameless inner world starts to take shape, becoming part of a much greater diagram, a diagram greater than any previous made. Nameless is unsure what the diagram will actually do.

Emanation: Glimpses of Truth.

Seemingly gives some degree of conceptual power to all of Nameless Diagram spells, almost as if they were lesser truespells. For example: Mordant Fire partially ignores material durability, true quickening weakens time effects upon the user, etc.

Extrusion: Glimpses of Logos.

The greater diagram is it, what it does In Truth is not yet known.

Incarnation: When the diagram is complete, Nameless will know.

Nameless guesses that the Diagram will be fully complete at stage 12, every time Nameless increases in stage, he will unlock more of its power.

Nameless thinks that it's unlikely that he will reach stage 12 in time to fight Kong.

Once the diagram is complete, Nameless with reach the furthest reaches of cultivation, it effectively being completed as an art for him.

*Gives less power than beyond, but much more long-term potential, and access to more esoteric effects.

*Can Nameless afford to get even more potential at this point?

*The power of the complete diagram could rival perhaps even an Even Further Beyond. But can he reach it?

[ ] Go Even Further Beyond All the stars above the sky: To grasp Logos. To reach Truth, to reach the very stars. All of them were wishes of the magi of old, and Nameless plans to fulfill all of them. Nameless now reigns over the endless stars, an unending realm that serves as basis to his throne. The culmination of the path that nameless has chosen.

Emanation: Throne of stars, True and Forevermore.

Greatly enhances and expands the effects of both of both of Nameless's reality effects. Fully integrates To Grasp Logos with both.

Gives some degree of conceptual power to all diagrams (mordent flame can now attack a cultivator's foundation, regardless of power, for example), and treats all of them as having one more beyond point invested into them. Possible even with diagrams that normally can't have beyond points invested with them.

All diagrams are treated as being 2 full stages above Nameless's own. (3 with potentiation).

Extrusion: Endless Constellations

Nameless can choose any one diagram every time he gains an cultivation level, this diagram becomes part of Nameless's extrusion. All of its effects are greatly expanded upon, and it's treated as being one more stage above Nameless's own. (Stacking with all other effects that do so.)

The effects that this has is increased in conjunction with Nameless's cultivation, and if the same diagram is chosen repeatedly, it's enhanced even further, each time becoming part of a greater diagram.

Incarnation: The light above the sky.

Any effect that conceptually has any resistance against the diagram is greatly weakened. All diagrams spells are considered conceptually greater or equal to opposing effects.

Allows Nameless to endlessly improve individual diagram spells, increasing their power, scope and effects, somewhat similar to spending beyond points. The difficult of increasing any given spell increases exponentially with time.

Should the skies between earth and stars be greater, the light above it will be greater still, forever making it so that all that see it strive towards it.

*Great synergy with both truth and true incarnation, gaining a further 0.25 stages due to truth, and 0.25 more when gaining true incarnation, on top of true incarnation's native bonus.

*Raw power, long-term potential, this choice has it all.

*Greatly weakens Endless Sky's advantage over the diagram.

*Theoretically, if Nameless chooses To Grasp Logos as constellation in every stage, at stage 11, if he has access to the other facets of truth, would allow to cast a diagram combining all signs.

*Nameless has no clue what it would actually due, only that it would take a herculean effort to research and cast it.

[ ] Go Even Further Beyond – A philosopher-king, true.

The path of a king is a limited one. A king cannot compare to a god, for they reign over the world. A king cannot compare to a titan, for they are power made manifest. A king cannot compare even to a man, for the man still has freedom to choose All Paths ahead of him.

Yet, a king's power comes not from the self, but rather, from his kingdom. While a king could not strike down a god, perhaps a civilization can. While a king cannot compare to a Titan, his civilization will eventually bring one down. And while a King does not have the freedom of a man, a civilization has untold paths that it can follow.

To be a philosopher-king true is to not only acknowledge that, but to strive towards it.

Emanation: As above, so below.

Nameless's kingdom becomes his emanation, and thus, is considered part of him. The land will flourish, crops will grow swiftly, the cattle will be healthy and all of his kingdom will act as if it had been affected by greater refining.

Nameless can freely affect any of his kingdom with his diagram, with open the way, this means that he can quickly be anywhere within it.

Nameless passively knows the wishes and desires of the population, and can quickly act to fulfill them.

Extrusion: Fisher king.

The kingdom is tied to the king, just as the king is tied to the kingdom. All citizens of Nameless's kingdom will gain a part of Nameless's power and positive effects.

All that consider him king will become thrice-great. Their biological needs will be greatly lessened. They will gain great talent, and will gain a fraction of his beyond points.

As Nameless grows in power, this effect is increased further and further. With enough power, theoretically, every citizen would become as talented as Nameless was.

Should Nameless die, a great affliction will impact his kingdom. The reverse is also true.

Incarnation: A king, forever more.

Nameless will become unable to cultivate further. Instead, his cultivation stage is treated as the rough power that his civilization has access to.

For example, to reach stage 9, he would need the power equivalent of a planet. 10, of a star, 11, of an entire solar system, and exponentially increasing above that.

Each increased stage has a tremendous effect on Nameless's civilization and power, increasing the effects of Nameless's emanation and extrusion, his kingdom flourishing further and further.

*Doesn't have the most long-term potential and gives little immediate power.

*If you could convince Yong Shen to be part of your empire, would immediately throw you into stage 11.

*Highly synergetic with Philosopher-King. Doubles all benefits gained from it.

*Allows crafting of Magnum Opus with little damage to long-term growth.

*Nameless is unsure if he will have enough Raw Power to defeat Kong.

*Chance of diplomatically defeating Kong, convincing him to be part of Nameless's empire, since it would be to the benefit of the countless multitudes inside of him.

*Has potential of some lateral growth. For example, using open the way, true to conquer a civilization that controls a galactic empire, but lacks access to magic, would be doable. A problem would be to gain knowledge of such a civilization.

Philosopher-King – To rule evermore. To rule wisely. To rule rightfully.

The culmination of the path of the thrice-great, combining aspects of all three to create a greater whole. The raw Might of cultivation, the Truth of the diagram and the Grace of Binary-magic.

Nameless gains innate knowledge of how to become a wise ruler, which is increased further when he makes an earnest effort towards becoming one.

When Nameless rules over a kingdom, all negative effects that would befall it are lessened, regardless of nature. Greatly empowers chosen subordinates and institutions, allowing Nameless to bestow a portion of his power unto them.

Allows the creation of wonders, mega-structures built around all three systems of magic, which improve the entire empire with its effects, and each one built strengthens Nameless.

Nameless himself gains power in measure of how developed the kingdom is, be it in science, raw power, or culture. Also is empowered by the construction of monuments in his own image.

---

Now that Nameless has become a Titan and became a Philosopher-King proper, what will he do next?

First and foremost, he will take the throne, as is his right. However, what will he do once there?

[ ] Hunt the heroine- The Heroine will soon awaken. While unlikely to be able to match Nameless in a relevant time-frame, the wish from the divinities could prove quite useful towards his kingdom.

[ ] Inward focus – Nameless will focus in improving his diagram and discovering the remaining parts of truth.

[ ] Improve the empire – Nameless will do as an proper emperor should, and focus towards stabilizing and improving his empire. (should give Nameless one to two stage bonus, depending on titanic ascension chosen.)

Form of Rage - remains viable, if much less powerful than it could be with this expenditure.

Well, you are still spending 7 Arete on Thousand Cuts, so Form of Rage is quite strong, just not as strong as with Star-Blade (assuming the Evening Sky remains intact) or Balance. Unsurprisingly, Balance in all forms is also a form of Balance!

Although I could be convinced to swap to talking to Gisena instead. I'm mostly just leery of doubling down on anything when there is no real way to predict which things we've missed out on will be more dangerous an omission.

Mm, Letrizia's more about strategic information, while Gisena's is more about her backstory and Hunger's past.

I want to talk to Gisena since I'm intensely curious on why she's so loyal to us. We basically popped out of nowhere and With barely any discussion was like "I'll follow you for life!". She's basically been the perfect traveling companion the entire quest, always cheering us up or distracting With banter when hunger's feeling down, watching over us when we're tired to give us the time we need and bailing us out of fights when we get in over her head. I'd like to know the reasons behind such an admirable example of loyalty!

It's also the option to take if you want to hear more about Hunger's other family!

[X] Speak to Letrizia
[X] Bloodslayer

You know, it occurs to me that the voter base's attachment to abusing Hunger's ability to kill himself is probably why he hasn't gotten rid of the Chill of the Grave condition yet. If we don't do anything that would make him consider spending more time alive than dead, he's just going to continue to be dead half the time.

So let's take an option which offers relative safety, is thematically appropriate with the established recent theme of Rings and their purviews, and adds greater depth to the warmth of life Hunger is able to experience before his phantom form procs.

Plus, I like the way it plays.
  • It expands on the established capabilities of magnifying (or diminishing) the vital essence of those Hunger interacts with, which is always excellent
    • (Empowering avari into sindar becomes enhancing avari into teleri, and the EFB lets us look forward to raising avari into noldor).
  • It makes us feel like a boss fight in our initial incarnation, with additional boss battle phases to follow
    • (We'll be Morgoth Bauglir; if slain we become a furious wraith; if that too falls we erupt into Melkor Who Arises In Might, afire with incandescent rage)

There's the unknown-in-character factor of us choosing her as a Remittance, the fact that everybody else in her life is dead or dying, and Hunger's rate of advancement is so absurdly swift that you don't have to be a genius of Gisena's caliber to recognize that he's headed for the top. The companions on offer were curated for compatibility with Hunger in various regards, I don't think there's a great mystery to be solved there, at least not for us as voters.

[X] Star-Blade Saint
[X] Speak to Gisena

Gisena has been an incredible equalizing factor, but she won't scale unless we invest actively in her. She nullifies enemy advantages, provides pseudo protection by deleting incoming attacks, and is all-around a great person to have around.

As has been mentioned, while the Magus was from the Inner level it's doubtful that the Magus is representative of the power level within. Mooks are given guard patrol, not champions. Gisena needs some extra oomph to scale appropriately and continue being an asset. She has already mentioned feeling like she's not up to par with the conflicts.

I saw someone express a concern that Star-Blade Saint looked like a progression dead end. I understand that it may not look naturally like there's much to follow from it... But it's not going to change the fact that we are a Progression Type Cursebearer. We will always progress. It's not a dead end unless Rihaku says so.

As for speaking to Gisena, that's just minor preference over Letrizia. Under no circumstances should we be studying the blood. We get that in combat - sacrificing a social advancement for a minimal blood advancement that we're unfavored in is the worst trade deal, probably ever. Combat advancement is commonly available. Social is restricted.

Mm, Letrizia's more about strategic information, while Gisena's is more about her backstory and Hunger's past.
Right. And god and you only know which is more likely to cause issues: us making a strategic misstep out of ignorance like accidentally copying the appearance of a known memetic hazard or something, or thoughtlessly stomping all over Gisena's feelings out of similar ignorance.

Or missing out on the minor tiny boost from studying blood causing a borderline roll to slip from one category to a worse one. Or any number of other downsides.

On the balance, I think this moment is relatively low stakes, and out of the options talking to Letrizia covers the most bases, but its not something I feel strongly confident on.

Gisena's also very conscientious and adept at controlling her own internal state, while Letrizia is more transparent! Despite this, Letrizia has been withholding substantial amounts of strategic information, to what ends?

Yes, we still don't know how Letrizia ended up in the situation we encountered her in. What reduced Verschlengorge to this deplorable state? What are the goals of the organization she works for? We don't even knows it name, or what the three prominent polities that make up the Human Sphere are called! Hunger already knows himself, but his knowledge of the realm he's been charged with conquering's painfully limited. Letrizia gives great exposition, but she's cagey about the things that matter. As she should be, it raises my opinion of her competence, but we need to know what we're walking into.

Hm, for Sorceresses below the Third Coalescence Grace usage is limited to a third of a day. Does the Gown's Pseudo-Grace have a similar time limit or can we grind continuously with it? Maybe somebody asked this earlier, still catching up with the thread.

[X] Speak to Letrizia
[X] Bloodslayer

Great Power and potential aplenty while opening up avenue to upgrade Gisena with an power with +progression later, which will probably be stronger than Evening Gown. Truly the best of options.

It's unclear to me if the fastest path to Progression is delving into the Inner Layer. I think what's likely after taking Heedless is continuing to grind in the Middle Temple. Whether or not that's the course of action we ACTUALLY pursue is questionable, but I can precommit to taking immediately safer options (bar taking Passion and the Ruling Ring) to make that more likely.

If this analysis counts as fanwork, then please feel free to credit it as so (740 words):

I think the more pressing issue Heedless faces is getting back to camp safely. The reason why this is the case is upon returning to camp we're free to plumb the secrets of the ring, as well as engage enemies more wisely. It also puts us in a position of greater safety, which leverages the more greedy nature of this build option. Here's why we get back to camp safely:

1. The two Echoes compensate for the Lingering Paralysis debuff, at least in terms of efficacy. I wager, then, that we are about at equal strength as we were before we fought the Goldenrod Maimedboy. If we considered it safe enough to go into the Middle Temple at this level, then leaving with marginally increased Agility and Wits shouldn't be very hard.

2. What about a boss interrupt? If you take a look at the description of the Middle Temple here:

The Middle Temple, as it turned out, was cleanly delineated by a towering range of mountains, tempest-laden spines of snow-capped stone that ringed the entire region. Knights and stranger monsters patrolled the few viable passes, but obstacles of this level were only a middling concern for Hunger now, and they made their way through with efficient speed, hampered more by the narrowly winding paths than any serious opposition.

and here:

They arrived at the Middle Temple in such a state, the howling crags giving way to a lush valley of green, fields irrigated by the crystal-clean mountain streams. Unlike the Outer Temple, this land was clearly settled; well-crafted hamlets with colorful gardens dotted the valley, yeoman plowing crops in donkey-driven carts while their children frolicked carelessly along the dirt-packed roads.

You'll find that the section of the Middle Temple we're in is remarkably safe, if average and unpowered villagers can survive and even thrive. This makes the presence of a powerful beast unknown to us remarkably unlikely.

What about patrols? Well, you'll find that they have to respond to a check-in before the other patrollers catch wind. Thus, we're given leeway to escape the Middle Temple in time, and escape past the border between Middle and Outer. They likely don't patrol past Outer, given all the threats and potential risks that lie there, as well as spreading themselves too thin. The border itself is trivial to us, and I suspect that we could use Gisena's Nullity to depower their Sigils and force them to listen to the Call. Aside from that, their spatial magics and techniques seem to signal themselves before they appear, which gives us time to set up ambushes and responses to gank them right after they translocate.

Next that leaves us with the threats found in the Outer Temple. The likes of the Dreadbeast, the Knight Legion, and other unseen boogeymen. Since then, we've gotten more Rank, the ability to sense blood signatures, and more Agility to try and avoid these threats (and given that we were already faster than the Dreadbeast [excepting burst movement] at the time of the vote) I think we have a pretty good chance of leaving unscathed. The knights know to avoid us now, with their rudimentary intelligence, and overall we've presented ourselves as a credible threat that ought be treated carefully.

Thus, I argue that the dangers on the way back are avoidable at best, and manageable at worst.

3. Wait, if we get stronger, won't we be able to get more Advancements and progress further? Why do we have to resign ourselves to getting worse progress now in order to get slightly better progress later?

Two pluses to Progress is ludicrously strong and will definitely advance us much faster along the scale than any other option. I'm a bit lazy to search up the WoG, but I remember someone making an analogy for this being a Hunger for our Hunger, and that's honestly pretty ridiculous. I think if you were asked to wait a bit for another Lesser Remittance while in the Temple, you would all probably do it-- so I suppose this is kind of analogous here.

It's imperfectly analogous in that we haven't gotten Passion yet, so it might take a while to get it. I'm of the opinion that the time spent grinding for Passion is of equal value to grinding other Advancements to reach breakpoints in power, given the power found in the capstone pick that compensates for the lack of power in the interrim. Assuming that all other arguments about how our build isn't a very large increase in power, this means that we can safely grind in the Outer Temple or Middle Temple Border Zone and still reap comparable rewards.

Thus, pick Heedless! We fight for Aesthetic, and cool-ass rings.

No. Rihaku never actually answers any questions I ask. I think I'm too annoying.

You know what. Fuck it. The sooner hunger dies the sooner I can stop being an obsessive idiot.

[X] Heedless War

To suicide!
I understand where you're coming from but Heedless is currently not winning on votes and the argument power you've accumulated through your efforts isn't small. Please switch back to Saint so we can avoid suiciding.

Study the blood voters we're explicitly bad at studying and will only reap incremental power at best out of it. The only option this is relevant for is Heedless which is so risky it needs all the help it can get.

The other builds are better off taking one of the social pluses since they're much harder to come by.

[X] Speak to Letrizia
[X] Bloodslayer

I'm sorry, Letrizia, I was wrong to invest so heavily in Gisena! Now she's even demanding dresses in addition to all the piggyback rides! What next, we'll have to give her all our money? We just got rid of our last wife, why is this happening again?!

There's the unknown-in-character factor of us choosing her as a Remittance, the fact that everybody else in her life is dead or dying, and Hunger's rate of advancement is so absurdly swift that you don't have to be a genius of Gisena's caliber to recognize that he's headed for the top. We don't know most of this stuff in character though. Plus it's the option in which Hunger thinks about his wife and previous companions which you have previously expressed interest in hearing about.

[X] Speak to Letrizia
[X] Star-Blade Saint

I shouldn't let my depression do the speaking for me. It's rude and unhelpful.

I'm fine with either of the speak with options. The Study option isn't worth much thanks to the Ring, unfortunately.

Gown gives Gisena a defensive shroud deflects mundane force, only really letting magical attacks through.
Gisena's whole shtick is negating or turning mundane said magical attacks, which then plink off of the shroud as seen when the magical arrows stopped getting through.
The synergy between the two are hard to understate.

The issue with Bloodslayer is that during our retreat at the time we are most vulnerable to attack it offers only Cuts compared to our previous build.

Saint has equal Agi to quickening when in second form so we're far better equipped to run away at top speed upon encountering an enemy.
