How broad of a category is fishing-analogous? Are we talking things directly related to fishing or related to fishing in the way Devil fruit users in one piece can do things related to the name of their fruit?

I'm still looking for an answer as to what the conceptual limits To Shatter Heaven lets us break are.

Please?
The issue's that Accretion has few conceptual limits. Rank does everything, it's the king of stats, which is why Crown's such a steal. Difficulty converting Accretion directly into physical power and reliance on deeds are the two that stand out? The Forebear's Blade already does the former (which is strange in context). Muscle Wizard would've done the same by locking Accretion to our body, so that'd be one example.

Other limitations are thematic ones practitioners create for themselves; Hou Yi's ability to shoot nine suns out of the sky with his bow doesn't help in fistfights. We might be able to break out of those ruts and expand our panoply's purview with effort. Arthur with Excalibur in hand becomes Arthur in Avalon, recovering from his wounds. But this is all speculation, really.
Gisena probably disapproves of catching a fish without even checking what it is afterwards. Or possibly her insight into our curse tells her it's a bad idea if we get into the robot?
Verschlengorge was respectful of Hunger's status as a Cursebearer and Letrizia doesn't seem to think it's too risky. We've been told our affinity for the Armament's a good thing, at least for us. My theory about the Gisena malus is that we're inflicting her own cooking on her, but I for one welcome the opportunity to post Gordon Ramsay memes.

Let's not let Gisena ruin our legendary fish by trying to cook it.

I'm still dubious about putting a cursebearer with the Decimation into a mech with the same curse. What if they compound each other?

That moment of immediate regret when you realize that you probably shouldn't have chosen that. Reminds me of playing Xcom.

As much as i want Eldritch lore, no reason to rush.

And as Rihaku stated, Saber gives the most short-term power. Which we currently really need, so, let's take the short-term power in light of circumstances, please.

Also, the update and the lead-up to it was absolutely hilarious.

Current vote count?

It's amusing that Gisena disapproves of doing what you could claim is our duty!

Is that what she disapproves of? It could be as simple as working on something that will keep as opposed to something that is time-sensitive! There's no penalty for passing out, after all.

Our first title! Manipulation seems like it'll work well with our increased presence from Evening Sky plus the massive benefits we can reap from future fishing expeditions.

Remember, it's not general Manipulation but rather for the purposes of provoking enemies!

Didn't you say earlier that even with exhausted evening sky would make us stronger than before?

Either of the two 7 Arete combat options would make you stronger on net even when exhausted, but unevenly so. Combat isn't a matter of slamming total power levels into one another.

What a limited view of the noble art of fishing combat.

Nay, I think your regard for the art is too provincial. There are so many worlds with no fish at all...

[x]Crown
[x]Pass Out

Pass out has good colors, it grants arete, its fitting with both our exhaustion and our build, and its a lot of sleep for us to grow in. All extremely worthwhile imo. Especially since with the thread the way it is, we'll NEVER have enough Arete, w'll be spending it far too freely and recieving far to little of it for that to ever happen.

I imagine that currently, while we have better protection, we are much slower and lack more of a punch. Which would make an battle against the pirate Lord more of an battle of attrition.

Thousand cuts would make us an complete glass cannon, we could win the fight easily if we hit thousand cuts, and die horribly if we missed.

Robot shows we don't view the curse issue lackadaisically. I think that'll be an important factor in the future for getting Letrizia to shill for us, potentially for future mitigation options as well. Anyway the true joy of fishing is the act of it, eating what you catch is merely an afterthought, so I don't put too much value on that option. Let Gisena pout if she must, business awaits. Pass out is basically the Balance option of this vote, no more needs to be said.

Saber would've been pretty amazing with thousand cuts, as is though I'm willing to roll the dice we make it through the day and go for the longer term payoff of Crown. What is the defense build for if not to rely on it to carry us through weakness.

You have gained [X] Fell-Handed Stroke and the [X] Evening Sky.

This is how I was hoping it would end up! I just really like sunset-themed powers, as one might have been able to tell.

Crown is a relatively small and interchangeable benefit, seeing as better opportunities to advance astral rank will likely come along later. It's also not of great use at the moment, due to Exhaustion. Orb has an interesting niche that theoretically synergizes with Nightmare Praetor for schemes, but looking at our situation, it doesn't make much sense. In the short term, we're going to want to either directly fight or run away from enemies. And we don't need it to be the focus in combat; we're already the mildly tanky frontliner in our group. In the long term it could be more useful, but Doom of the Tyrant means that we don't respect the rule of law, so manipulating something to attack us is worthless; if we want to fight we'll just attack them first. Saber provides the most immediate safety and tangible combat benefit, advancing us in our chosen combat role.

I am sorely tempted by the aesthetic of Pass Out, because, well:
This mantle is comfy.

But we've already gone far enough to get this fish. Let's see this short sidestory through (especially since passing out doesn't relieve Exhaustion). I don't like the robot option right now; it's not going anywhere, and the curse isn't that much higher of a priority at the moment that we should ignore the fish we just went out of our way to catch. Plus, I'd argue that whatever the +? option is, it's probably not worth the truly sad -Gisena, even with the Letrizia gains.

In this world, Dread Rihaku baits twice.

Modifying my vote. Apparently, more Astral Rank doesn't help in the short run compared to the other option. Oh well.

How strange that the Hero has landed on a world similar to his own. Its almost like a future version of his world, the one where he actually managed to get all the reforms done and all. Which then grew to become the Foremost. Hmm..

You don't know for sure how the Forebear's growth will manifest itself.
How would we expect to repair the blade just based on Accretion rules? (As opposed to accretion + progression.) Could we just take it somewhere suitably dramatic and reforge it with minimal loss? Would a person's Rank cause their panoply to repair itself?

I want to be at 3.75 when the next opportunity comes! Accumulation happens one step at a time.
Non-outsider humans in this setting typically have a Rank between 1 and 3. If each whole Rank represents gains analogous to a full Cultivation Stage, we definitely want to get to 4 as fast as possible. Crown puts us within striking distance, so next time we do something heroic we're eligible for a Rank-up.

This update was interesting in a couple ways, let me solidify my understanding about how some of the more active Accretion manifestations work. In hindsight it's all pretty straightforward but I had trouble grasping it a bit before.

The fact that he went ham for the fish character wise also actually makes a bit of sense, this isn't a guy who's generally the type to back down, even when it might be wise to. 11 years of losses against the tyrant weren't enough. Nudges to chill that rhetoric by the surviving nobility afterwards didn't stop him. When the Accursed offered him freedom he doubled down instead. Pirate wants to escape? I think not. So it lines up pretty well, maybe if he'd seen the beast before he decided to begin he'd have been fine ignoring it, but once it's on, it's on.

"Go Hunger! Feed us, yay!!" Gisena cheered, bouncing lightly in place. She'd come over to witness the spectacle, pausing her ominous work on Verschlengorge's missile array. Hair and dress alike fluttered crazily in the wind; he wasn't sure how she could see.

Gisena's progression proceeds apace. By the time we get to the city perhaps instead of being impressed she'll look at it as provincial in comparison to the Foremost secrets she's delved from her travels in the reaches.

I think this is fair logic. It's just hard to pass up a useful unique reward.

Many of the individual options that we're presented with are one-and-done branching paths, so not taking a unique utility boost might mean that it vanishes forever. in contrast, astral rank gains are all the same, regardless of the circumstances in which they happen. I see the usefulness of steadily getting out ahead of potential challenges in terms of astral rank, but I have to favor the explicit capability increase I can see more than a "number go up" mechanical improvement that, so far, has been relatively flavor-text flat for combat gains.

The internet pissing itself the moment I hit post was not something I expected. What is it with me this week?

[X] Crown
[X] Pass Out

This a plus to the powerstat; we want as many of those as possible. Saber is immediately safer, but as long as we get a day of rest we will be fine. We already have Fell-handed Stroke, more Rank would already make it more powerful anyway while still improving literally any of our endeavors, because as you saw in the update, Pressure is bullshit. It's not even comparable to Saber. If we go full Rank=Cultivation levels in EFB just as an analogy; then we would be getting 0.25 Stages for the equivalent of 0.5 Beyond points; it's literally half-off from normal. This is pretty huge and well worth the momentary vulnerability; this is the moment we are least vulnerable to Apocryphal due to having triggered recently as well.

Pass Out because this gets us closer to removing Exhausted, gives us Arete we may need if we get in the robot, but most importantly, resting after this is an important characterization moment in it of itself. As the Hero himself said, it is moments of levity like this that let him march on even in his darkest periods. We don't want to ruin that by going back to work immediately, especially if any more shocking revelations are found inside the Devourer itself.. Let him rest and have a pleasant memory of this moment.

Would you think that the ability to dealy Fell-Handed Strike's cost until the end of battle is worth 1 Beyond point? It does seem to be the rough value of Crown. The blade will eventually repair on its own as well. I also don't see the effects of Astral Rank as "flavor-text flat"; this entire update was full of descriptions of the power Pressure can exert in the environment. We basically become an even more powerful reality-warper with more Rank.
