Also, with the fishing mini-game, I've decided to sell my signature for power (option 1, no extra postings). Behold, an estimated extra 0.002 Arete per day!

[X] Substantially
[X] Lord Reaper

Please. Let's not do this. This is Praxis choice all over again.

Remainder, that we are still injurged, add exhausted to that and we might be only able to fight at above half our strength.

We will get plenty more shinies even shinier than Fishing but we need to survive to get those.

So, I got to thinking. The Accursed has many curses, surely a lot more then the ones we've seen. And I had some ideas. As such, I present:

Fan Curses

Brand of the Doombringer - Any person or community that has any positive association with you will inevitably fall victim to an utterly ruinous disaster. After this disaster has fully played out, they will become irrefutably aware that it is their association with you that brought on this calamity. If any person or group chooses to continue associating with you after this disaster, then they will semi-regularly be subject to further disasters which will range in scale from moderately inconvenient to life-threatening. And they will always be made aware that it is you that is the cause.

You can deliberately create disasters to proc this curse on your own terms, for example causing a disaster that while utterly ruinous does not kill anyone, but the victims will still be aware that this is your fault, one way or another.

Affliction of the Figment - A large majority of your power and selfhood (75%) are not fully real, but instead shadow and illusion. Those of strong will can partially or entirely resist the illusory portions of your power. And because your very self is mostly shadow and figment, all effects leveled against you become more effective in proportion to the enemy's will as they bypass the unreal portions of your existence. Anyone who becomes aware of your partially-real nature becomes more capable of leveraging their willpower to resist your abilities and exploit your weakness. Someone who understands your true nature can turn even mediocre will into an advantage.

Finally, any illusion-dispelling effects will do great harm to you unless you are significantly more powerful then the effect's source.

Doom of the Bystander - You are utterly unable to use your powers to interfere in the lives of others. Anytime an event occurs involving anyone other then yourself, you may not interfere unless you were dragged into it by the actions of another, and then you may not act proactively, only responding to circumstances which involve you. Normal human interactions that do not involve violence or any sort of supernatural power are not effected by this curse, it is only wielding power to change the lives of others that is barred.

You may choose one highly specific set of circumstances in which this curse may be bypassed, such as being able to fulfill the request of a pure-hearted youth who went through great trials to reach you, or being able to interfere with a war that goes on for more then ten years, but only as long as your interference remains undetected.

In the event that you also suffer from a curse that requires you to act under certain circumstances (such as Doom of the Martyr) then any time you are prevented from fulfilling your other curses by the Doom of the Bystander, you will suffer horrible mental anguish as your mind is torn between the conflicting curses.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, fan curses. It's kinda hard to find a line where the things are bad enough to be curses, but not so bad that they're worse then the canon curses. Anyway, I think I did an ok job with these three, although I worry about the wording on Doom of the Bystander.

Affliction of the Figment was inspired by the Accursed's comment that he's been reduced to a figment of his former self, and the mechanics are based off of Shadow Evocation spells from D&D/Pathfinder. Doom of the Bystander comes from things we've heard about the Accursed being unable to act due to curses, I could see this and a few other curses accomplishing that. Brand of the Doombringer is just a nasty two-hit combo of screwing over people that deal with you, and then making them aware of the fact that you're the cause of their misfortune. It's kinda like a delayed Brand of the Wretched with additional screwing over of people in one sense.

Mitigation paths are fun. Brand of the Doombringer you can make the disasters less bad/less frequent or immunize specific people to the disaster-causing effect. If this was canon I imagine the Accursed would have immunized all his cursebearers. Affliction of the Figment is fairly straightforward, mitigation makes you more real. Doom of the Bystander mitigation would allow additional conditions for action, or make one condition broader.

Hm. I'm going to remove El Stats as it has the fewest votes at this point. El Stats voters, please switch to a new option!

Well, as soon as the voter base is actually punished for taking a risky decision, I'm sure they'll massively overcorrect and swing in the opposite direction learn their lesson!

alright boss, give it to me straight, are we playing as alt-universe arthur post isekai?
If we start to obsess over one waifu, I think the message would be clear. Or maybe we needed lunacy to go full Arthur?

Damn it, you are giving me some flashbacks to quite a few quests...

Personally, I think the most consistent thing about SV is that momentary shinies will take priority over long-term planning.

[X] Of Fishermen, A King
[X] Lord Reaper
[X] Rod of ages

Cleary this is the most important vote on the quest.

I wonder what counterparts the curses have:

Brand of the Champion - Doom of the Quester: You will always demand a reward for whatever you do for others, and are unwilling to help in even the most egregious cases without being rewarded.

Brand of the Wretched - Doom of the Destroyer: You will be instilled with an utter hate for all things.

And, well, from A Simple Transaction (original), I suspect these are the 'full' versions of the lesser curses Seram could take:

Brand of the Fated+Brand of the Chaste = Brand of the Outcast: All whom you interact with on a postive level beyond that of an acquaintance are Doomed to a horrible fate or betrayal.

Affliction of Leprosy -> Horrifying Affliction: Cursebearer is constantly afflicted by new and 'exciting' diseases constantly, a visage that would appeal only to Nurgle. Applies a major penalty to all actions. Without mitigation and management, will eventually kill the Cursebearer. It is recommended that Cursebearer constantly improve their CON if this curse is selected.

Mutilating Affliction -> Crippling Affliction: HP is reduced to 50%. Cursebearer looses 50% functionality in all body parts, and reduces effective attributes and skills in all areas by 50%. Effect is comprehensive and additionally applies to any magical system the Cursebearer may gain access to. Applies even if one replaces their bodyparts with prosthetic or augmentation, affecting them at the same rate.

also I have no idea how this gisena happened but I weirdly like this one???

I don't know what visual configuration of facial traits would accurately map to an APP 7 character besides generic stuff like "big eyes and high cheekbones," so your guess is as good as mine! If you showed me pictures I could probably tell you which one is "more like Gisena" than the others.

This is hilarious but it also made me realize that one armed fishing looks really weird.

Maybe you're the weird one for doing it wrong! As he wields the Rod of Ages, his technique could not be anything but masterful.

A benefit of high Accretion is that our masterful fishing technique is not bound by what lesser beings would term "practical" or "realistic". We fish good, reality sorts itself out.

It emerges from the water with a grace bordering on the obscene-- a sinuous thing of white scale, pink fin, and luminous eyes, like shattered rubies scarcely eclipsing a cold alien sun. Toroids of diaphonous metal, brighter than gold and lighter than air, serenely orbit its frame- buoyed by some manner of formless emanation.

It also... couldn't have been more than a meter long.

[You.] it intones, wordless, absent of any motion beyond refocusing its gaze upon Gisena.

[You have the potential to become a magical girl.]

For once, the Nullity Sorceress seemed at a loss for words. Perhaps taking her silence as implicit agreement, it wobbled about in the air from its place on your line; jockeying with gravity for a better view, maybe?

"But I'm already-"

Somehow, mouth still clamped shut around your Bait, the bizarre bass-like creature emits a noise of scarcely-veiled contempt before continuing to speak over her, unabated.

[Make a contract with me, and you can become a real magical girl.]

It may have also mentioned something about granting a wish, but it was hard to hear its disembodied voice over the violet-haired witch beside you.

drawing? never heard of it

anyway what gisena needs is more transformation sequences, clearly

Tho honestly Letrizia would be more likely to be a candidate. The selection criterion is having strong emotions, after all!

Also Lord Reaper is just so boring. If we're going to commit to the dark lord aesthetic to the point of naming ourselves Lord Hunger, we might as well go all the way. As a build it basically pays out the nose for a super-special attack and prays we don't get mobbed in our next fight, or that we have in an opportunity to ambush a dude. With Shroud, we still have a normal special attack for stronger foes and all the incredible defensive benefits of the Evening Sky. It simply has less points of failure.
