Think it's fair to say that could have both gone much better but also much worse. Tempted to pick the Bone Tenders. It's clear we've had a complete breakdown of faction relations and all the old sides just have grudges piled against one another. The Faith of Bones is probably the only active institution that still commands respect. I figure our best strat is to let the Bone Tenders lead for a while, focus on proselytization and try to integrate ourselves with the local system in order to remedy our information deficit. Thenif we wnt to try conquest once more we wait a couple generations untill the other civs face some kind of crisis. Probably also a good idea to try and cultivate some allies.

The fact Great deer is still not home a winter later and has not send someone back to announce him taking over somewhere leads me to think they are not doing well. Playing as the isolationist fishers is not a style i would like we know little about the desires of the bone tenders so i like to play as them to help shape those.

It was the bone tenders who were capable of calming the others down, it's the bone tenders who have influence in the White Clans and it's the Bone Tenders who aren't at complete odds with the other factions, plus they should also have natural support for eventually reinstating the counsel with a perhaps more active religious side in it (which tbf, most Ancient civs were Theocracies and we IRL have only started properly ditching the theocratic element of governance in the last two centuries, not before in the past 10 millennia).

Important to note is that it seems like ovsidian is pretty damn rare in the tegion based on how the lowlanders reacted. If we want a "in" for the trading networks that'll probably be it.

Obsidian and the new silver mine which should have finished production, once we get the people to man it. Plus part of the raiding spoils was some sort of "strange gourds made from some kind of brown stone that contained water and milk," which sounds like pottery has been invented, so we might not have to waste as much time before being able to expand like most people want.

Yeah, no wonder I was wary of trying to become active in this.
It's not a civil war though, just a political succession crisis. Last but not least because nobody has any military to actually do warring.

The Civilization post has been updated:

Bone Tenders
Description: While they generally try to stay out of political affairs, the Bone Tenders wield quiet some influence among the population and are known to try and keep the peace among the people in times of strife.
Size:1 (Tiny)
Influence: 7 (High)
Mood: 4 (Unhappy)

Main Issues: spread of Faith of Bones, honoring the Ancestors, Neutrality
Secondary Issues: Peace

With 4 less hunters they now have a +10% (low area utilization) bonus.

Yep. Pretty good result all things considered.

I think we have the most room with the bone tenders. I think it would be alot easier to meld factions together with them.

@Azel
Didn't we have reserves of food from the last turn?
Or is it impossible to keep those in the current system?
It's been a while.

[X] [Faction] Great Deer and the Hunters (focus moves away from Greenvalley)

Edit: Disliking theocracy too much for the Bonies.

Obviously our short term priority will be sorting out the current mess and reclaiming the mandate. In the midterm though I see our future as theocratic merchants, spreading our wares and faith far and wide. With access to silver, obsidian and azurite we will definitively be able to recover our image. War is not a priority but should not be entirely forgotten either, our civ is specced for it after all, rather we need to work within the developing regional system. I think our current issue is that from the perspective if the lowlanders we were an "outside" threat they could rally against. Instead of being the scary big bad we need to establish ourselves as a legitimate polity that may squabble with the others but is not a threat to the status quo. To this end I think it may be worth looking to set ourselves up as mercenaries of a sort. In exchange for a decent share of the spoils our hunters will aid other polities in their conflicts. This could not only be a decent source of military experience but also help build working relations with other factions and ensure they have a stake in our continued existence.

The worst part is that Antlers could come back and stir the rabble once more.

Also how stupid could he be as to stay a whole turn away from home?

The bone tenders are the only respectable institution left, they're literally the center piece of our culture. If anyone can bring the factions back together, it's them. And if that fails we can always just call in favors from the clans and steam roll everyone(theoretically)

If it's any consolidation, you would be in a very similar situation if negotiations had failed, just with a ton of dead people and destroyed stuff on top.

The core issue is that faction desires have been left to drift apart over the generations and now the crisis blew the rifts wide open.
I guess that I then can call it a succes, though it is still rather bittersweet.

I think that I agree with @Walker Of Chaos's idea of what we should be trying to do. I especially like the idea of trying to solve the trading vs. Isolation with proselytization, since that sounds like a way the Bone Tenders could argue for a solution without seeming too partisan.
