Well, the moralist won and now we have a vengeful hobo out for our heads. Again. At least we've broken her this time.

"I demand that you die," you continued as the arrows struck the servant right in her forehead.

Excellent pre-mortem one liner, calling into mind the fact that both Carmilla and Medb and both bluebloods.

"This unit is designated as the latest model of the Athena series in the attempt to recreate the parameters of Celine Derrinsmith Luctworth. ID number: 294," you replied as you had finished scanning the area for hostiles. Your core may be newly installed but it was still inadvisable to overheat it.

... So the Luctworths have created a line of murder-cyborgs made in the image of a dead girl. That creates so many questions with horrid implications, namely, 294 models?! How many people does a Magus family want dead, holy fuck.

You remembered, you remembered it all and you felt like screaming. It was bloody. You created that sea of blood. You alone and you hurt a girl who didn't deserve all you did to her. You should have just beaten her, you could have just left it at that but you dug and dug and dug into her darkest thoughts only to pull them out.

Aw, don't drown in that moral morass, Brie! Remember that because of her, a lot of people died just feed to Carmilla! Yu kinda gets a pass since she somewhat helped you deal with Frankenstein, and her wish can't be realised by the current Grail anyways, so letting her walk is... An acceptable course of action.

But Olga? Olga clawed her way from the grave, worked with the magic drug dealers and gank you and Medb just to kill you. That, by definition, is personal.

So what you did is perfect justifiable! You even let her go alive, to stew on her failures and despair on the utter embarrassment she is to the Animusphere name!

Sasuga, Brie!

[X] Drink it. You knew what this is but... You trusted Rider not to take advantage of you. You need it now.

I am all in on trying Medb's recreational drugs, after we've out of our current state.
not because i don't trust her, i do, but because i know she is not a licensed medical professional so has no place to go prescribing meds to fix peoples mental state, be it for short or long term. :V

I would not normally recommend drug use as a solution, but I think it'll help Rider with her stress as well. Plus, kisses?

If nothing else, Medb has a LOT of experience dealing with young men fresh from battle-shock.
Admittedly because she tended to put them into that state.

Damn, really was hoping Olga would give it up or Rider would finally overcome assassin. But Carmella is just an even match for Medb. Next time, we'll have to bring people in.

Remember, the goal of every Magus is explicitly to undergo Instrumentality and reach the Root. That said, every Fate plotline involving Dolls, Homunculus, or any kind of sacrificial human plotline industrializes it due to the combination of the scientific method needed to improve and just sheer grimdark.

You know, I never really understand why Magi have to work so hard to reach the Root. I mean, the cycle of reincarnation in the Nasuverse basically have them pass through the Root anyways, so I wonder why nobody had ever jury-rigged some kind of spiritual computer to process and record the entire experience to their soul and eat a bullet. Poof! The Root!

... Unless this information isn't widely known In-Universe and it's something that only the readers know, because if so, goddamnit Nasu you crazy mushroom, so many lives had been ruined because if this.

Part of the problem, and the dream, is that nothing can reach The Root and remain human. To reach The Root is to reach the Akashic Records: The Sum Of All Possible Knowledge, Laws, And Events. To record the process of reincarnation would be to record infinity and nothingness itself, a process which material like Kara no Kyoukai established it as being inherently nothing. Even to name it turns it into something that it's not.

Magi seek as much knowledge and power as they can get their hands on. All knowledge is stored in the Root. To gain The Root is to become a supreme deity beyond any concept small early minds can comprehend. Everything that is, was, and will be is known to them. And once you have all that... Well, it's like Aoko Aozaki said: Why would you ever go back?

"And there's 294 Athenas just like Brie,
Who cuss like Brie, who just don't give a fuck like Brie
Who dress like Brie, walk, talk and act like Brie
And just might be the next best thing, but not quite me,"

Brie is a faulty model. Only she's braindamaged enough to become Medb's Master and then call herself a type of cheese. We're one of a kind.

Fucking Magi.I blame Solomon for this whole mess, because sweet fuck with the whole pointlessness of their entire purpose of being and their sheer obsession to the whole thing is... Kinda sad, honestly. And stupid. And needlessly grim dark.

For all their cruel and empathyless natures, they are far more human than they admit. Their very method of furthering knowledge plays a part in destroying the Mysteries that give Magecraft the ability to exist. Magic's going to run out eventually. Yet they're not going to stop trying, they refuse to give up.

It's also my personal headcanon that we only see the worst of the mage families that are hellbent on things like this because the less successful families don't give as much of a shit and therefore don't have as much reason to get involved in things like the Holy Grail War.

While there's certainly a lot of Jubstacheits and Darnichs, I can't imagine every mage as shitty as Shirou having the same kind of "everything for knowledge" mindset. And even from the big families, we get people like Rin and Kariya who definitely can't stomach that shit.

Now I'm wondering what exactly Brie was modeled after. Was she designed in imitation of Pandora and the original humans...or was she designed in imitation of a goddess?

Well, her powers are all over the pantheon.

Also, nobody pointed it out, but ID 294 doesn't mean there are 293 working Athena dolls. Most of them were prototypes or outright design failures, I bet.

But also by the rule of narrative significance, now we're bound to run into another Celene knockoff and fight her. Them's the rules.

Fair. Pandora was all gifted. Still, I'm curious on if her being an Athena model has any more significance than just a model type name.

You know those Magi, they felt like using a snappy name, so they did. :V

To be serious, it's probably because the project was tightly bound with the development of Aegis Magecraft. Like, it'd make sense if the doll is largely modular, with different Magecrafts installed, but Aegis is a baseline and is installed in everyone. After all, we can use it even when not in Emergency Mode.

If we selected a boy start, the models would've probably been named Perseus dolls.

Also, I'm pretty sure they're trying to invoke the Greek legends to empower the result somewhat. Nasuverse does run on that stuff.

Possibly. But with the Olympians being robots and all, I can't shake the feeling yah know?

Well. LB5 spoilers and all that.
Between Athena being the deity the artistic depictions of Amazons are modeled after, the 'original human' golem in F/Apoch, and what we've seen the aliens make artificial humans into... probably an advanced, highly flexible combat unit.

Athena was probably Skynet, and her devotees Terminators. But Magic, because Fate.
