You go to the music venue hoping to instill some culture in Ruby. She is a childish, rude dolt. Some nice, classical music will hopefully set her on the right path.
There is already a group performing, though.
It isn't classical.
It isn't opera either.
It isn't even jazz.
It is an unholy mixture of pop, rock, and – you can't help but shudder – metal.
And worse yet, you don't hate it. However, you don't buy a copy of the album.
You don't.
There is no proof that you did, shut up.
On the bright side, Ruby has fun, up until she decides to get into an argument with someone named Cardin Winchester.
Which would be fine, if you didn't recognize the name 'Winchester' as the last name of a very influential family in Vale, and more importantly, one of the Schnee Dust Company's big stockholders.
And… there's the fact that you two are what some might consider 'childhood friends.' The notion was ridiculous, of course, you were acquaintances at best. You remember him being a bit of a bully, from the few times you did interact, but you also remember his elder brother, Jay, reigning him in. You two would frequently fight over who had the better elder sibling.
Hopefully he had forgotten you. If he did remember you, it would be awkward.
You intervened before Ruby could do anything stupid. "What's the problem here?"
"He's saying that you don't need morphing weapons, and that it's 'pointless fluff'!" Ruby cries.
Cardin huffs. "That's because it is pointless fluff! Look at what happened to that girl from team LEMN, she got knocked out because her weapon didn't morph properly! Morphing weapons are unreliable hunks of junk that can fail on you at the worst time!"
"Why you…!" Ruby fumed, and turned to you. "Weiss, help me explain to this idiot why he's wrong!"
Cardin looks at you and smiles. "Weiss?" Oh crap, he remembers you. This could be awkward. "If I remember correctly, Winter Schnee's weapons didn't morph. More points to my argument." Oh thank Dust, he didn't make things awkward.
You can practically see steam coming off of Ruby as she looks at you with pleading eyes, though. "With morphing weapons, you've got two forms that both excel in their own role! With combo weapons, unless they're really well designed, they either excel in one field and fall short in the other, or they're just mediocre in both fields!"
"Yeah, but with a combo, you can use the elements of one kind of field to boost the effectiveness of the other, like using ranged shots to increase momentum or impact!"
"Morphing weapons can do the same things!" You see Ruby reaching towards what you can only guess is her own weapon.
This is bad… If you can't pacify Ruby, then she might do something very rash, and Qrow will be upset. On the other hand, if you deny Cardin's points outright, there's a chance that he might use his influence to ruin your families' ties. It would be best to hit a happy medium, but… would you be able to?
They're both looking at you expectantly. What do you say…?

Cardin is still a bully. He just sees Ruby as an intellectual equal, and nobody brought up the topic of Faunus.
Also, if you want to read the battles that happened on this day, check the sidestory! Plausitivity is helping me write them so I can get the chapters out without worrying as much about the battles.
