That's not a freebie. That's a trap. I remember the previous incarnation of this quest.

I've read both of them and they are pretty fun reading. Silver got lost in the ice caves going after a Sneazel and was ~never seen again~. Poor Silver.

I admit, neither quest made me go, 'wow, going after a rare type in a hard location is easier than you might think, we should ditch this Oddish!'

Simple Pokémon for simple solutions!

Hope Silver does alright in this quest. Don't wanna lose a friend already. That would devastate Kotone!

Tangrowth is a better Bellossom and Exeggutor is a better Vileplume. There's really no reason to get it when we're going to a place that has both of those. Besides cute factor, @Wysteria >.>

Yeah well Rule of Cute, m8.
We haven't done research on those Pokémon so we can't conclude that they would be better than what we know right now.

So what're your guys thoughts on order of capture? Easiest to hardest? By location? We will want to track a good Oddish for ourselves so that could take a few days. We could conserve our strength to get the toughest Pokémon first while leaving the easiest for last. Though since it's SZ that's relative difficulty.

Easiest to hardest, but also first encounter to last encounter, which is the same order, probably. I think we'll encounter multiple Oddish as we go, and we won't hit Kangaskhan until the Northern area.

Nidoran in this 'verse live in big families, I know from other-quest spoilers, so they're definitely harder than a solitary Oddish in terms of associated dangers, even if we aim to avoid fighting any Nidokings.

Of course, in an ideal world we run into a perfect Oddish right out the gate, toss it in a bag, find a lone Nidoran with a broken leg, and then an already-orphaned Kangaskhan. >.>

@Shin I'm actually quite fond of Tangela, but my reasons besides cuteness are speed and ease. I will be less concerned about both of those when we have our first pokemon and no two-week time limit to catch three pokemon across a jungle area, one of whom is rare and tough.

→ [X] Kangaskhan (preliminary)

I support oddish, although reading on scyther isn't a bad idea. It is one of the dangerous pokemon in it and if they are unlucky, might end up stalked by one.

Which of its evo though. I am fine either way atm for I want to see how they fare on mission first before deciding.

That kangashkan plan is ruthless, poor cub.
And i fear that a wounded kangashkan will attract predator, so I think their plan need to include precaution for that

Hm, I was thinking earlier that the corpse might attract predators, though now that you mentioned it, yeah, it might attract predators while it's tracking blood, too. A few hours might be a small enough window that we can escape that, but we'll need to try and prepare contingencies for if that happens. Nothing's coming to mind right now, though... heh, come to think of it, a Gloom would actually be pretty useful for that part of the plan. :V

Makes sense, definitely get some precautions for the cub and predators.

Silver wants to get Nidoran on the outskirts where it's safer, and I'm inclined to agree on that course of action. Oddish is probably easy enough to be a target of opportunity, even in a dangerous area. I'm not exactly an expert gardener, but I don't think it should take any longer than 30min to dig it up and catch it? We do need to refine that plan a bit, but the basic timespan should still hold true.

To summarize: Nidoran, then Kangaskhan, fit Oddish in whenever we happen to find a nice, good-looking one.

The discussion thus far has brought up several reasons to get Oddish beyond cute factor. If you disagree, make your counterpoints. Simple appeal is a perfectly valid factor in voting, anyway. Is that not why you're so against Oddish?

Come to think of it, @wdango how far in the soil would Oddish bury itself? Not too far, i presume, since it doesn't scream "roar look at my digging claws", so we could just find one in the ground and throw a ball onto it after beating it up a little?

Well we're ninja, so scouting is literally part of our bread and butter. I honestly thinking finding a habitat of what we want isn't going to be super hard or time consuming. This is kind of what our character is made for. All the Pokemon we're talking about are found on plains. Some heat vision and some stealth and it should be easy.

Heat vision goggles are probably an excellent idea, assuming Pokemon give off heat....

We're not all going to be happy with every Pokemon choice. Hopefully we'll each end up with a favorite member of the team.

Of course it won't be hard to find their habitats? We're being airlifted there. If you're talking about tracking the pokemon themselves, that is Navigation, which is actually one of our two Rank D skills. Both of our partners are better at that than us. Heat vision goggles are not a terrible idea, but it may not work for plant pokemon like Tangela; plants don't let off heat. Tangela is also rarer than Kangaskhan, using the game's encounter ratios. For Scyther, the main issue isn't that it's rare (though it is, in fact, arguably as rare or rarer than Kangaskhan using those same values); it's that it will be difficult and dangerous to catch.

I've also already brought up that Exeggcute is just really bad in terms of type weakness.

I'll be honest, I just don't have the patience to raise Magikarp. I need immediate cuteness gratification.
Yeah truthfully dratini or growlithe might fit those categories? Though dratini is slow to evolve... arcanine is also another goal I'm looking towards!

The answer to 'Dratini or Growlithe' is Dratini AND Growlithe.

Arcanine's a good fire pick. If we get the opposite gender as Gary, we could even breed it. Speaking of which, this is actually worth double-checking: @wdango, does pokemon breeding work like in the games, with the egg groups, or is it same-species only as we've basically been assuming thus far?

I'm going to buck the trend here. Researching Leaf's pick is important, yeah, but this safari has screwed up our plans just that tiniest bit. Silver plans on catching something on the way to the kangaskhan, so let's see if there's anything that catches our eye

Watching out for oddish while trying to track nidoran, then kangashkan.
I rather leave kangashkan last because it has the highest risk and the team may want to bail out after.

Throw repel bomb? Or stink bomb? While we all wear gas mask. Then bail out of the place asap.

Ideally, kotone should shoot at the retreating kangashkan to herd it to a place they want it to flee to.

If predator(s) found the wounded kangashkan first, depending on the type, someone will have to keep the predator busy while someone nab the cub, then either finish the predator off or retreat. With a source of food nearby, it won't be as inclined to chase us down.

Good thing we have the firepower of Leaf to help us! I'm thinking that maybe we could get her to finish off the Kangaskhan if we get closer to it, since she has an assault rifle and has the same marksmanship as Kotone. Would quicken the process since we won't need to track as far away.

I don't get why everyone's trying to study Kangaskhan first. We should really figure ourselves out before trying to help leaf.

Kangaskhan is the first vote on the Oddish track, at least that's how I've been counting it. While we could technically still divert later, I think if we were going to it would happen now.
