[X] Do preliminary research on a Pokémon
-[X] Zubat

Because the Poison Typing works well with our Ninja theme, is a stealthy flier capable of working in complete darkness and evolves with high friendship.

Honestly a great pick. I strongly considered Zubat, but... eh. In the end, I want something a bit less common than the bane of cave delvers everywhere, I guess. :V

What about eevee? It has many evolutions, for an eventual vote. Just a backup in case magikarp doesn't win out (think of the garydos!)

Im personally trying to avoid falling into Koga 2.0 trope.
Well, we only have Gen 1-2 Pokemon anyway, so there's going to be some overlap. And it's not like I'm suggesting that we focus exclusively on Poison pokemon either. It's just that the Zubat line is really good for the types of things that ninja's are supposed to do. Like, I'm all for having a Gyarados, but it seems to run contrary to our long to mid-range, stealthy fighting style. We could always have one as an ace up our sleeve I suppose.

Also, due to how Pokemon are treated as weapons in this setting, I'm going to assume that pokemon with high friendship will be a rarity, meaning Crobats will be much rarer than one would expect. We can always go for the "cool" pokemon later, but I'd like to get at least one pokemon that matches up well with our fighting style first.

I considered that, too! Still too cliche for my tastes, though I have no problems if we end up going with it. As a secondary factor, Eevee is a Gary standard; even if he doesn't necessarily go for one here, that still feels a bit too shippy for my tastes. If I'm supporting any ship, it'll be the wonderfully FoeYay idea of Kotone/Leaf (though I'm not going to vote for that, of course-- at least, not as long as it'd be too OOC :V). If Eevee happens, then I'll happily gun for Umbreon/Espeon/Sylveon, and if Gary/Kotone happens, I'll set myself on making it as adorable as humanly possible, but in the meantime I'm gonna avoid stuff like picking Gary's canonical starters, personally.

As a Gary fangirl potential friend, Kotone must get an eevee!
Gah, and she could brush off his eventual question about it with "oh, nothing. I was going to get an XXeon, definitely not how you're going to get a YYeon."

You know what I'll even forsake magikarp for it

Sorry fish boi

Well, lvling Eevee with high friendship can give us Umbreon, so I can be persuaded. But give me my Murkrow first!

If we're getting a direct lift to get the mon...

Should be a good mix between useful and not too hard to capture. Good evolution options and decent typing, though moveset could use work.

@wdango will we have a full team of 6 eventually?

Do we know what that posting will be?

How "large" is an area? Does it correspond to a zone/route in-game, or is it more like "northern Kanto"?
You don't know.

It's up to you how big an area you want to research. The bigger the area, the less details you will get.

It's probably best to:
1. determine what Pokemon
2. determine where to get it
3. research the specific area

My argument:

Magnemite > Pokemon that aren't magnets.

I like it better than zubat and it fits her.

I do wish she was more seriously considering a totodile, mind.

I like the idea of ghastly. Ghosts are super-useful, especially when the usual game limitations are removed, and you can creatively abuse ethereality.

1.2 - Research: Murkrow
Resembling a crow or raven, the Murkrow is an avian Pokémon that is said to bring misfortune to all those who see it at night.

Like the bird it is named after, the Murkrow is an omnivorous scavenger that lives around swamps, forest, and plains. It prefers open areas that are near to trees, and as such tends to be found on the outskirts of forests that have agricultural land or grasslands. In recent times, the Murkrow has been spotted most often near the states of Celadon, Fuchsia, and Saffron.

Upon evolution into its only evolution and final form, known as the Honchkrow, its plumage that resembles a witch's hat morphs to more closely resemble a fedora. The sex of a Murkrow is evident by the size of its crest, which is smaller on the female than on the male.

An unevolved Murkrow averages a lifespan of 15-20 years. Like most Pokémon, its remaining lifespan is approximately doubled upon evolution. As Murkrow can evolve as early as 4-5 years old, early-evolving Honchkrow can live for up to 40-50 years.

With a fondness for anything sparkly, it will go as far as fighting with other Pokémon, especially Meowth, in order to gain their stashes. Whenever it is chased, it loses the attacker by leading it down dark mountain trails. Its thieving and nocturnal nature has led it to become representative of misfortune.

Murkrow chicks that are around one year-old, known as yearlings, live with non-mating adults in a group called a roosting community. Most adolescent and adult Murkrow, however, are solitary, but they will often forage in groups. A group of Murkrow is known as a murder, and will band together and chase stronger Pokémon.

Upon evolution into a Honchkrow, it can summon and organise entire flocks of Murkrow with a single cry, and is known as "The Summoner of the Night" due to the pitch black darkness that accompanies such a spectacle.

Despite resembling birds, Murkrow are hardy and can sustain a surprising amount of damage before being incapacitated. An unevolved, adult Murkrow is formidable enough to be classified as a C-Class threat. And due to its ability to gather a murder of Murkrow, its evolved form, Honchkrow, is classified as an A-Class Threat.

It has also been observed that both Murkrow and Honchrow become increasingly aggressive upon killing their prey.
