Under the Open Sky (CWMGQ Spinoff)

Fragments of stone hang in mid-air as they rush away from the unreal pressure of her heal.
I think you meant "heel" rather than "heal"?
like it's making the wind cry with it's passage.
with its passage
It's wielder grunts with the exertion.
Its wielder
Right now even it's recently-improved responsiveness feels disappointingly sluggish.
even it's recently

So I guess this was the first time that Summit really took advantage of Diamond Mind? Is that the source of the headache?

Also, we're so close to having enough EXP for Pioneer! I'm not sure if we should get it the moment we have enough EXP though, because doing so could prevent us from purchasing a new Slayer ability in a pinch.

Beating the bonus boss should get us to that 3500 though, provided we beat it without spending anything.

[X] Prepare for a fight.

This is the first time Summit pushed Diamond Mind. I'm cheating a bit by making it run off the post-Enlightenment Overclock rules. It's less trouble when Summit doesn't run her mind at full speed or for perceived extended periods.

That's something to keep in mind, yes.

 Good luck not spending any EXP.

May I ask the overall situation report, @kelllogo?

1) IIRC the group we're currently a part of was finished with this part of Deluge and was planning to relocate anyway, right? There's, strictly speaking, no particular reason to stay and all the reason to leave?

2) Assuming we choose to prepare to fight, does the group as a whole also stay? Same assumption, do we or they call in additional support for this bonus boss? Same assumption, can we make it a delaying action for Summit while the contacted reinforcements arrive?

3) Assuming we choose to withdraw, does the bonus boss pursue us and make it a fighting retreat, or does it mean a potentially-suitable replacement champion drop in and solve the problem themselves immediately (without bonus boss going on rampage in a random or a specific direction)?

4) No matter what we choose - is it a battle where bonus boss can die - and said someone else, should we withdraw? Please cover both choices of ours here.

[X] Yell for everyone to withdraw.

Much as I'd like to confront the Bonus Boss, I don't think it fits into the mission parameters (this being an escort mission of sorts). So, better stay with the group this time, and make sure it succeeds in the primary mission.

[X] Save EXP

For reference, we need:
2010 EXP to get Panoply 40, Juggernaut and Rain of Light (general attack boost)
1310 EXP to get Aegis Field 25 with Formidable Defenses (500 Resilience, 3500 HP, 25% damage absorption)
1685 EXP to get Standing Wave (long-range Wave Force with Banish effect)
420 EXP for one of many, many Slayers we could get.

1) The flooding has finished for this section, yes. So there's no strategic reason to stay.

2) Rook, Blazkowicz, and Ruby are going to de-ass the area post-haste. The elves will stay if Summit stays. Expected allied adds to arrive during the fight. (The elves are actually a liability...)

3) If Summit withdraws a High Threat Response MG team will be yoinked to deal with things. Or Madama Morte, it depends. (Morte won't show up in the first 20 turns if fight wins, that would be too easy.)

4) The bonus boss can probably withdraw from the alternative fights. I don't anticipate the ATLANTIS/EMISSARIES/Night Sky getting killed from fighting this guy.

Thanks for clarification. I stand by my decision to withdraw.

On a side note, how much notoriety does Summit have now (after wrecking Headhunters and killing off Nightmare of Thomas)? IIRC it was a measure of how far she still needs to go from "priority target" to "do not engage" status.

Honestly, one of the main reasons I'm voting for sticking around is that it feels like the IC choice.

Since when does Summit willingly pass up chances to slay UD forces when she doesn't have a different priority keeping her occupied?

Well, putting aside that her first priority should still be ensuring Deluge goes off without a hitch (and prompt relocation seems to be the prudent option):

1) Unnamed Demon Supervisor - was scary enough to make Summit want to flee/escape/etc
2) Magical Girl Starlancer - same proviso as above, she did feel the need to retreat before we pushed her into combat mode
3) Escape from Hell - back when she just broken out of her prison, she near-immediately vacated the location
4) The now-gone demons - I think that either or both demons from Headhunters and from Wasp's Nest were the guys Summit met AND hid from back in the day.

I remember there being mentions of morale rolls or something similar in the earlier updates.

Summit, as I understand her, isn't actually fixated on killing demons - she is fixated on protecting humans/allies, and on her own survival.

[X] Yell for everyone to withdraw.

There'll be other chances to fight when we're more prepared (like having pioneer) and have less liabilities around us.

- If we tell the elves to join the retreat, will they listen to us?
- If we stay, and on seeing the boss decide that we're outmatched, can we still retreat later? I'm going to guess that the incoming HTR team wouldn't say no to some data, and Summit is pretty suited to being a scout, from what I can tell.

The elves will only leave if Summit leaves.

There's a big difference in how command will react. If the nearby MGs ask for help some will get allocated, if those same Magical Girls say they have to run/are running... well that gets a more panicked reaction. I'll try to have Summit interact with the team on the withdraw option.

Even if we outright say that they will be a liability to us, and that if we have to retreat in a hurry we cannot do that while they're still here?

Not quite what I asked.
Can we stay for now, and next update after having seen the bonus boss, still run away?
As for command, we can tell them that we will evaluate the threat, so that if we do have to run their panic response can be slightly more measured.

You could probably talk the elves into leaving given enough time. Maybe a few minutes after ???? shows up and zaps 'em.

You could also vote to run away after Priad arrives. I wouldn't recommend it, but it is an option if you really want. The panic doesn't really hit until Summit runs off, so there's a minute or two to react if you go now that won't be there if Summit stays to 'wait and see'.

Also I don't want to encourage/entertain hanging around and trying to kill-steal.

I'd like to thank Naron for helping look over the bonus fight. Good Luck!
