Looks like Summit is going to be looking for trouble. I'd like to thank Naron for consulting with me on the bonus boss.

Good luck!

Good luck!

See, if we go find trouble, maybe we can stab it in the face before it tries to find and surprise us. Positive, proactive demon slaying.

"It's about what you expect. We fly around the perimeter and pick off anybody that looks dangerous. Ignore the small fry, they are easy prey without champions." Insight says.

Carnage's dragon softly trills as Insight finishes.

Lucky Star shoots upward. A gust of magic sweeps out, so dense you can almost taste it and your magic senses see only Wind magic. It changes into a tornado that drags up vast amounts of Earth magic into a vortex.

You jump upwards to witness what's happening.

The two closest hovering fortresses have ceased to hover. Bright red liquid stone rains down alongside them as the fall. A house-sized mass of furious earth appears right over the nearest intact fortress and slams into it. From the distance it looks almost gentle. The noise that crashes upon you, having just reached your ears from the earlier METEORs, testifies otherwise.

More and more METEORs rain down in a awe-inspiring barrage. Even after all the fortresses begin falling, the rain of destruction targets concentrations of banners, grouping of towers, and other signs of war material. It's almost too much to believe such a small creature could manage.

No. It is too much. You see dust begin to swirl around Lucky Star, magic crystallizes around her for a moment before dissolving back out, then returns stronger each time she draws in magic for her spell. You put your hand on her shoulder.

The sound has moved far enough back that you can make out what she says, "I think this is my limit."

Lucky Star passes out and falls into the arms of Gabriel, who had already taken flight to catch her, she loops back to solid ground.

Carnage kicks through one of the walls. Solar Radiance and the transformed snake that is Lunar Radiance burst through the opposite wall. Solid Core kicks off of a few conjured panels to take her place in mid-air.

"Starshine! Starshine! Starshine!"

The predawn landscape is lit up brighter than noon sun by a titanic expression of power from Solid Core. Plains covered by stunned demons transform into a blasted landscape as swirling strands of Pure, concentrated, wrath spill out. You see Carnage smash a group of hulking armored demons into paste.

In the distance to the south an mass takes to the air. Closer in there's a charging group that has withstood both a METEOR striking them as well as weathering through Starshine without even taking a scratch to their fluttering banners. They are also moving too fast for comfort, certainly faster than regular legs should carry them.

You dive back down.

"Spotted a problem?" Insight presses herself against your weapon. You extend out a harness for her.

You nod, "A group of demons ran through Lucky's and Solid Core's spells without slowing down."

Red Rose jumps onto your Panoply and puts the flat of her spear against a notch, "I will eliminate the champion. Take me to them."

You push up from the ground and fly past the remaining walls to get a good look at your target. Still running, about 30 seconds away by your estimate. Within reach of your Shifting.

The transit has barely finished when Red Rose jumps from your shoulders, "Sudden Death!"

(Sudden Death: Target is immune to Auto-Kill!)

A crackling energy surrounds Red Rose's spear as it seeks out the heart of the foremost demon. When it strikes the momentum of the entire group stops dead, but only their momentum. The leader, a three meter tall armored demon with crawling darkness over her eyes (Darkness, Blood, Order), swings the banner she holds in her right hand and swats Red Rose aside.

Almost without thinking about it you throw an attack of your own at her. A net to slip in past the shockwave and burn the Darkness that comprises her. Even as Red Rose flies away your target drops her banner and her left hand reaches for a blade on her belt.

Something screams for you to escape. You wrench your Panoply to force through a Shift NOW!

You appear above where Red Rose brings herself to a halt by stabbing her spear into the earth. A section of ground in front of the demon champion explodes when she touches her sidearm, you didn't even see anything.

A streak of green hair rushing at her, on the other hand, is something you catch. Unlike your attack the demon leader doesn't appear to notice.

When Juggernaut Drive strikes it is decisive. Nothing remains of the champion but mist and every follower within 30 meters was pulverized or killed by the shockwave. Juggernaut departs as quickly as she arrived.

(Perpetual Spear: WayTooMuch Damage

Liliath: WayWayDead)

The survivors of the unit begin to howl. You begin firing at the now-vulnerable targets, raising the pitch and panic substantially.

Red Rose nods at your carnage as she rubs the location where she was struck. Insight makes some unhappy noises about the abrupt Shift layered atop another Shift.

Even as your shots cut them down none of the demonic soldiers hesitate in their attack against you. To the last they charge with spear and sword and no thought of their own survival. Which makes it easy to finish off the fanatics to their final figure with a flourish.

"What did you do? What happened?" Insight asks shakily.

"Juggernaut Drive happened."

"Ah, good thing I brought her along then." Insight swaps her pistol to her other hand so she can rub her forehead.

"Pass me a health patch Insight. I know you equipped yourself." Red Rose says after some careful pokes to her neck and shoulder.

Insight fiddles with her waist pack and pulls out a weakly magical light green card. She flings it at Red Rose, who plucks it out of the air. In a quick motion Red Rose breaks the card with one hand and slaps it against her neck where bruises are starting to form, taking care to yank her hand away as soon as the card attaches to her.

(+100 Health, Red Rose is now at Maximum Health.)

While Solid Core's attacks have continued and blasted the land in a wide swath, at the boundary it falls into loose spokes leaving a large chink of the enemy force still untouched. Shimmering portals have started popping up almost everywhere, scattered among the still living demonic army. It appears that even the coverage you saw before was not the entire force. Wait, those portals aren't discharging foes….

"They're running away." you say. Something burns inside of you as a score of armored commanders dive into a portal before the rays of a Starshine spell eradicate the press of desperate bodies. How dare they escape.

"Yeah, they do that." Insight says, almost talking into your ear, "A human helped a fairy army arrange a way to jump back and forth over dimensions with forces on either side and now everybody does it. Except for humanity, because our tactical portals suck.

"Anyways. Since the dangerous demons are also rulers and don't like sitting in garrison, this lets them yank back their dudes and arrange an offense. And everyone knows Hell's armies are most dangerous at the first charge.

Insight makes a non-committal wave of her hand, "It also makes it a pain to keep track of their infamous units. Another one of those things that makes it take weeks to win or lose open battles."

The array of hellgates makes an oily-type sensation when you feel for it. There's also a prickly, more established point further away. You think. Distance is hard to judge here, it almost feels like all the hellgates are on top of each other..

"Only demons can use those?" you ask.

"Yes." Insight says.

"There's a handful of non-hellgate points. Does that sound important?" you point.

Red Rose jumps on you again, "How far."

"I'm not sure."

"Nix to that. Do the words 'mutual support' mean anything to you." Insight says, pointing at the indent where the previous champion once stood.

"Anything we can do here isn't worth our time." you counter.

Insight groans, "You had better run away from fights as fast as you run into them."

"You didn't get a scratch and I got treated like a baseball, you'll be fine." Red Rose says.

You fling the three of you into a gate and emerge high in the air. Getting your bearings takes a moment, it looks like you're a bit more than 6 kilometers away from your last position, in the direction away from the rising sun. Long shadows are cast on the ground by Solid Core's ongoing assault. Below you the camped footsoldiers rush to portals, emitting a dull roar. A somewhat fancier encampment behind a crumbling wall contains a more interesting assortment of forces.

You count at least 63 Dark Stars, 2 creatures that must be Greater Nightmares, 8 Demons with four or more Affinities, and 1 Magical Girl (Diplomacy, Justice, Myth-Maker) on the ground. With about 300 more varied non-Dark Star individuals that don't present a notable threat.

Further up there are two groups of note in the air. The first is a six winged golem in the shape of a dragon (Chaos, Dragon). The other is a line of black winged demons diving for a hellgate (Darkness, Despair).

Insight starts talking as you consider the best path.

"Each wing joint has a seal to draw magic into the core. Deface all of them-"

"We are spotted." Red Rose barks.

Your Panoply fires a wave of brilliant white energy at the flying demons. As they change from flying monsters to falling remains you Shift atop the golem.

(Darkslayer Panoply: 1600 Base Damage, +309 Dice, +200 Light of Discovery, -400 Dispersed Attack, +8000 Darkslayer, +4968 Shell, +500 Godly Power = 15177 Damage

Red Rose jumps off of you to spin in mid-air and begin running on the beating wings of the golem. After her second step she throws her spear to pierce one glowing glyph and adjust her run. Then she slashes out with the spear back in her hand to shatter two more.

Your own share of glyphs run into a problem. When Red Rose broke the first glyph the golem opened its jaws and an angry, red and white, Dark Star emerged. Your Panoply fires a stream of magic at it, but it counters with a shockwave that makes your rays vanish before destroying it.

When the effect reaches you everything locks up and goes dark momentarily, until your own stream of magic surges back into your weapon.

Insight shoots it.

The first shot sends the densest part of the Dark Star flying away from the shock wave. The next hits where the beleaguered mass of magic is attempting to pull itself back together. It unravels into a beautiful stream of red sparks.

Behind you Red Rose destroys the other three glyphs. The golem shudders, slows and stops. Red Rose jumps back to you and climbs back to her perch.

"Got Em!" Insight crows.

Lines of energy appear over your Panoply as you fall with the crippled golem. Power that you intend to shortly use.

Results are mixed. You had hoped to kill all of the spellcasters in one swoop. And the same for the portal that remains open in spite of your hail of projectiles. One of these issues rapidly clears up.

Red Rose throws her spear into the looming mass of magic. A broad wake of crimson follows and crashes into the Dark Star. When it passes there is not the slightest trace of the being that survived your volley, just

How did she avoid getting hurt by your attack? She's right next to a pair of armored commanders. She's holding up a dove of all things. A gut feeling tells you she can't actually hurt you, so you dismiss her for Insight to deal with.

Insight pulls loose while the girl is talking. You wrench space around the portal and fire another stream of shots at it. That does the trick, it shrinks down into a point and spills odd-colored gas to the ground.

Next thing to deal with would be the Nightmare, a beast that's at least 8 meters tall and composed of thick mist. You push off the ground to gain some speed.

Your shots tear it into three dissipating pieces.

Insight points her gun at the mystery Magical Girl. Red Rose weaves away from a large serpent that holds a whip sword in its jaws (Fire, Earth, Steel).

"Say 'I surrender', otherwise c'est la guerre." Insight says.

The girl points up her chin, "I am Magical Girl Honored Envoy, you wouldn't dare shoot me."

Insight shoots her. It feels like something lifts from your mind as the strange girl crumples.

"Sudden Death!" Red Rose shouts.

(Sudden Death: Auto-Kill!

Skin the Wonder Snake: Dead)

Red Rose's spear flies up, crackling with magic and leaving a broad streak. Then it descends upon the snake. Lines of potent magic spiral into the snake in three places before the spear stops its flight sunk into the spine of the demonic snake. When Red Rose calls back her spear the creature does not so much as twitch.

"She had mind powers. And an Ability that could make someone stand still while they get killed by someone else." Insight makes a disgusted face and reloads her weapon.

"RED ROSE!"

A very large demon with wings, large claws, and two heads runs at you (Evil, Time, Blood, Conquest). You level your weapon, but Red Rose holds up a hand at you.

"YOU KILLED MY SONS! I WILL HAVE VENGEANCE!" he bellows.

As he gets closer Red Rose shouts back with a glare, "I don't remember killing your children, I doubt I'll recall killing you. Sudden Death!"

Her spear flies out, covered in deadly magic and heavy with purpose. But it never reaches its target. The world around you dims, and goes almost pitch dark outside a boundary line. What you can see of the space outside is of a world slowed to a standstill. Time magic has sunk into everything, including especially Red Rose, Insight, and yourself.

Red light illuminates you all. Emitted by the frozen spell that never reached the two headed demon.

Red Rose summons her spear back to her hand and throws it at the demon, impaling his left claw.

The winged, two-headed monster surges forward. Claw out and swooping towards Red Rose. She glides along the ground, calling her spear back to almost gently push the attack aside with a clear plan to sink her weapon into his back afterwards.

Just as she's cleared out of his swings something quite strange happens. The demon appears to split into three. One image recovers from the missed swing, one slams into Red Rose with a back handed strike, and the last intones a pernicious sound with one head while the other chants something.

The blow knocks Red Rose off her foot. As she prepares to land all the color drains out of her when the effect of the incantation strikes. You feel something trying to pull the life out of you, but also careful and insidious where it touches. The black blood the claw left on Red Rose's outfit fades away to wisps of smoke, but her own red blood fountains out. She nearly tumbles as she lands.

"Don't let it push you to the boundary!" Insight screams.

She flings an orange card at the demon with one hand and aims with the other. One of the heads looks at the thrown card while he starts moving again, intent on striking Red Rose. The card detonates into a sphere of bright white light. At that same moment Insight fires.

"Know this! You have earned the wrath of Ialemus! And it will bring you suffering!"

Everything crawls to a standstill. Insight, Red Rose, the demon that called himself Ialemus. Everything except your thoughts and vision.

It's your move. And once you move so will Ialemus. Possibly more than once if you're careless.

A large demon is trying to kill Red Rose, and doing distressingly well so far. It's applied some kind of time bubble that grants it actions whenever any enemy in the bubble acts. Insight thinks leaving the bubble would be bad

Red Rose's KTNXDIE spell is still there. Frozen in time and still trying to reach Ialemus. He's chanting something that you assume is keeping it frozen.

There's a nearby wall that about a sixth of the boundary covers. Otherwise Red Rose is near the center and Insight and Summit are about three fourths of the way to the edge. 80 meter radius or so.

He's got a spell that fires scaling Unstoppable damage at targets that are cursed. With enough reach to fill up the entire boundary. His claws inflict Curse when they hit, and the spell removed the effect when it hit.

Ialemus gets his own turn, but has to spend it channeling the effect that created the boundary.

He doesn't have to attack the person that triggered his action. (Just to make sure this is read, if Summit/Insight acts, Ialemus can attack Red Rose!)

Plan making is in progress. Please wait warmly.

Also just to point out, Heavy Caliber bypasses his Woe to the Feeble. Also, Shred has Auto-Kill effect and at 5% debuff his 800 resilience translate into 800*20=16000 health.

Uggh, this makes this even harder.

Blech, Summit only gets one action a turn.

General thoughts:

Set Directed Counter-measures to halve damage from Time attacks, since both the Claws and the Jaws spell have Time as an affinity.
Check and see if Aegis Field is cast on Red Rose, if not, cast it on her, she is going to need the added HP and Resilience.
-From the description of Vexing Postponement it appears that it only halts spells aimed at Ialemos not ones cast on others.

Huh, 16 xp short of being able to buy Bloodslayer or any Slayer for that matter. That's a shame.

But, Summit can get Curse, not sure what she would do with it though. Thoughts?

Right. Stuff to say, the basis on what I make my plan.

Shred is the boss-killer in this encounter because it drops effective enemy health from 650k, to merely 16000. Much easier. If it doesn't work we switch to Burn that does 6500 damage per tick per stack.

You will note Intercept and Hardpoint: Claws seem to be prominent abilities of Ialemus. Since you can say that Intercept Conflict is a Contest of Strength, aka Challenging Ialemus... I believe that Woe to the Challengers! is an ability meant to augment his Intercept.

This means we should avoid entering into Intercept conflict with Ialemus, and it's relevant because we have Prayer of Blades that allows us to Intercept or Negate attacks against allies as a free action. We need to specify a focus on negation and avoidance of intercepting.

As I said before Heavy Caliber negates Woe to the Feeble as confirmed by Lost on discord. It is however Ranged only, and will require leaning into multi-hits. Those may be easier for Ialemus to Intercept.

Fun fact - even if Summit is affected by Curse, she can kill Ialemus with one melee attack.

With Curse her average roll is 200 (d400 halved), she gets +200 Light of Discovery, and she has both Smash (x9) and Slash Hell (x5) for a total of 400*45=18000 damage.

Edit: according to kelllogo and LostDeviljho on discord:

me:
Heavy Caliber may or may not bypass Woe to the Feeble, needs clarification
Lost:
@Faraway-R It should
me:Hmmm. Okay, big question. Can Shirley use Quantified Combat to lockdown Ialemus's normal actions? Does it also affect his free actions?

Kelllogo:
Yes. In fact, that's what she did do when she acted. It doesn't stop his extra actions later. Just his reaction to Insight.

kelllogo:
I feel I should point out that you're compelled to move after everyone else has. Summit currently views everyone else as frozen.

Me: Meaning that we need to weather at least one turn of our allies and enemies doing stuff we may not want before we tell them the plan?

Kelllogo: nods

-[X] Actual Plan
--[X] Switch your Panoply to: Shred, Smash, Slash Hell, Priority Boost, Intercept.
---[X] Shred is to rip and tear (autokill). If Ialemus proves resistant to it, switch to Burn.
---[X] Use Priority Boost and Intercept combo to use Flurry - and deliver a single, overwhelmingly fast and strong attack like the one that killed Rat.
--[X] Close into melee range and rip the demon apart with a single strike, so fast he cannot even try to Intercept it. Aim away from his claws as you attack.
--[X] If the battle lasts much longer than expected, shift to stacking damage over time (Burn, Rend), and to using Vampire to sustain yourself. Continue avoiding enemy claws or his attempts to Intercept attacks.

This is the plan. The damage will look like this:
(Shredder Panoply: 1 Base Damage, +249 dice, +200 Light of Discovery, x9 SMASH = 4050 Total Damage.
Insert four more damage strings. 20250 Combined Damage.

Ialemus: 800 Resilience, +2400 Dice, -400 WTFFast = 2800 Damage Reduction
17450 Final End Damage

Shred Applied: 800-872=-72 Resilience
Auto Kill!

Ialemus: Rip and Tear, until it's done)

Additional thoughts:

Maybe we can. I endorse claw fusing.

Gaining Curse for Summit's Panoply may or may not allow her to have the demon suffer backlash from its own spell. Or he may be immune to either outright.

The following passage from kelllogo seems to be a hint for using Shred or at least it is how I interpreted it after remembering she had Shred and doing the math:

Ialemus: Only slightly injured. He looks to be one of the tough ones that needs to be torn apart to defeat

That chanting head seems to be the key to this. Can we shoot napalm at it or otherwise make it shut up?

Also Waveforce seems like it should work, that spell freezing thing is a spell and thus should be dispelled on contact I think, but who knows.

About Wave Force. For all we know, timestop of Ialemus will prevail over the wave of destructive/chaotic magic. I prefer to not risk it. Especially since it's all but hinted he can do something besides holding spells in stasis while the his battlefield control is going on.

I really hope that he can't somehow hit us with the frozen Sudden Death.
