// Of course, that gambles on 'no attack just now'

Mhm. I'm torn between palisade and woodcutters' camp.

We are gambling either way - either on an attack, or on resources.
*sigh*
I guess we can afford to have an attack, if barely.

A WHOLE NEW WOOOORLD!

[X] [Construction] Temple of Hephaestus
Not all gods had turned their back on Orchomenous in its last days, and so would it not behoove the people to offer thanks to their patron for his protection? Someone must have sent the strange woman after all, and convinced Poseidon of guiding the fleet's voyage.

OUR BOI, BEST BOI

Re: dates. I have been blind to the greatest clue.
where currently the Hittites, Egypt and the rising Assyrians are duking it out
Ramses II fought the Hittites during the fifth year of his rule (1275 or 1284 BC). Assyrians were nomming their way towards the Hittites at that time, and it is said that after Egypt and the Hittites peaced out, the latter fought against Assyrians around 1280BC. So here is the more narrow range: 1290-1270BC.

Anyway, to the vote:

Firewood good, materials to repair ships and construct temples better. Especially if our scouts will be on the lookout for valuable trees.

Obviously not risking our scouts on sea or mountain in Winter, we can do that under better weather.
Now we have to get knowledge of these forests.
For food, for shelter and to survive surprises.
So we clear them where they are nearest, by scout, then sword, then axe.
The upcoming turn is fall, not winter.
Can we double up on a scouting action?
Yes, you can.
Can we trade an exploration action for a construction one?
No, that's not possible. Though keeping on scouting action in reserve has your camp better protected.

[X] [Construction] Temple of Hephaestus
Let's build a temple for Demeter in spring or summer.

Right now it's a priority to know what we are against .

So now that we aren't starving, can we now praise the god that blessed us for so long?

Urgs. You are directly going for Iron Man mode. Greek gods were fickle, and if you don't have a patron god there's nothing stopping any of them to either demand our obedience or trample on us.
Iron Man?

- The Iron Age. Hesiod believed he and his contemporaries were in the Iron Age, an age of desolation, destruction and pain. Humans would fight against each other and would only care of themselves. Because of lack of shame and indignation, humankind would destroy itself, and the gods would abandon them.
Seems fitting.

I now what you mean.

I just thought it seems to fit my intend and the Greek Mythology together perfectly.
And I made the comment because I think (that is this thing where you can be horribly/hilariously wrong) that's like camping outside in hurricane season without any shelter. Sure, it may work.

We can build Heman's temple during the winter. Won't be much else to do anyway...

We have a new start, no gods no masters.

We are ant's beneath a lions gaze compared to the gods and avoiding them is not an option, because they at least find us entertaining enough to keep around, where monster's however do not see us as anything but the next meal

Expecting us to survive, say nothing of thriving, without a gods blessing, when literally everybody else works on them, seems foolish way of playing

Especially since one of our major advantages is starting high in Hephaestus favor in the first place, which however might fall the longer we put off building a temple for him and thanking him for guiding us through our journey, a.k.a. stopping Poseidon from drowning us for not paying proper respect before sailing out into the open sea
