[X] Accept the truce. Neither side will cross the river until spring, then the clans leave, hopefully never to return. (May or may not result in large invasion next winter.)

I don't want us to be Borged into their faction, and I think that they are lying about their motives and goals. Also, I find any sort of cannibalism distasteful. If we're to merge with this clan, I'd prefer to do it on our own terms.

We specifically risk war only if they cannot find another place to winter. I.e. they'd come with a lot of dudes but they're going to be in utterly terrible conditions.
Endocanibalism - Ideal
The body is the vessel of the spirit and after death, some of it lingers. By consuming the flesh of the dead, a person might take some of their spirit into themselves, letting a small part of them live on.
- small food income due to deaths in the polity
- no stability check when forced to cannibalism due to food shortages
- diplomacy malus with any who do not share this value
Okay...this one is a bad one to mix with Ruthless. Its the type which is good in a specific circumtance(starvation level famine being common) while making conflict that much more likely(see how WE reacted to cannibalism)
Clans - Identity
While the tribe as a whole has value, it is the own close kin to which the greatest loyalty should is owed. These bonds of blood endure any hardship and shape the lives of the people.
- decreased faction influence
- instability can result in population loss due to migration, which lowers instability
- increased change of civil wars
Gives an outlet for stability....by spawning new tribes with your techs and values.
Double edged sword as a result. Very powerful with Cooperation/Harmony/Unity type values.

Toxic with martial values, you will spawn your own worst enemies.
You are going to struggle with the losses for at least a generation too. Make no mistake, you have been decimated so badly that it will be hard to do anything else then scrounge for food next year, since a second winter with excessive activity like this one will wipe you out.

In regards to their nomadic lifestyle, they would stay in the valley with you for the time being. The reasons for that are complex.
Oh yes, thats the point being made, that if they are pressed to come back for round 2 next winter...things are going to be more desperate and we'd probably have done some extreme trapping expansion by then.

But I can see why they're nomadic now due to their traits. They're stuck in a loop where they get driven from places due to the cannibalism trait ruining first contact, their perserverence trait forces them to keep trying and thus stressing society in a damned if you do, and then the Clans value trigger and spawns a new tribe with a chunk of their resources who'd then wander on. There's probably more of them scattered across the entire area, until they evolve a more stable set of traits.

Except there'd be a lot of throwback tribes hanging around as well.

Actually, there are a multitude of reasons that might trigger an invasion next winter and you should not assume exhausted remnants. Once they reunite with the other White Clans groups in the mountains, a lot of things might happen.

It can range from no one coming due to this group splintering and nobody seeing a point in messing with you and goes up from there to a full blown holy war being called for you committing what their culture considers war-crimes.

[x] Marry Snow-Fox and Red-Wolf to merge the tribe with the clans. Both sides will struggle to survive their losses, but united they have much better chances.

Hero units are considerably better in this civ game due to how little time passes, and given they are adding significant bonuses to the rolls, over their life time this benefit us greatly. We also acquire new population numbers which is valuable given how many we've lost and how everything is manpower centric.

Losing the duel would be devastating, and even if we win, our Ruthlessness could evolve towards Might Makes Right, which is a bad value because it conflicts with our triumvirate government form and overvalues hunters.

Marriage is just eh.

Can we swear oaths at the peace talks to not commit warcrimes (burning coats/eating dead) to each other respectively?

This and dueling are the only options
As shown by the QM, a truce means that we roll between a meh outcome and varying stages of shit ones.

Dueling + Ruthlessness => Might makes Right => Goodbye, Justice
Marriage => Merging of incompatible values, Stab shitstorms

We need population to ensure survival, and I'd rather not risk an invasion come next winter. We can also evolve or eliminate bad values we might get over time.

Truce => a Roll in which we decide between trying to survive with almost no population, stability issues already or in which we see how the White Clans fuck us up and murder us from the shamblings of the group were meeting or they summon a jihad on our ass and we insta die.

Except their trait is Clans (Loyal to family first, tribe second). Half of said nomad population will at best nope out when asked to stop cannibalism. And at worst cut us down from inside. Or become leaders and make it a tradition.
Which is better than just dying. We can mitigate bad traits, we can't mitigate them murdering us.

Mind you that truce is a valid and entirely survivable pick. I merely felt the need to stress the risk after the White Clans were repeatedly dismissed as harmless.

If you pick truce, you need to invest effort into defense and prepare for a siege, because otherwise a middling invasion force could easily kill you.

Ah i see, that makes it slightly more palpable since its no longer nigh suicidal sounding.

Honestly, I would be up for a truce. Since I believe that our tribe would have a significant advantage in battle in every season outside of winter due to our obsidian weapons being a bonus we have year round, while their snow gear is obviously limited by weather conditions. That said, I don't really want to put out luck to the test and roll on a table for the potential outcome after a truce. We can more easily influence what happens with a merger, even break it off if it turns out to not work. A truce is a wild element that sets me on edge when we're teetering on the brink, even if it is survivable. Right now, what ensures our survival comes before all else.

I would like to ask everyone to stay civil. There is a plethora of ways to discuss these choices, but ad hominem arguments ain't one of them.

Anyway, vote closed. Time for a wedding.
