Interlude - When the Trinity Fell
It was about to rain, Kaede noticed. That was just like the previous days, probably a little early for the middle of May. She did not mind it that much, though; the rain allowed her to stay inside and play around a bit without either of her big sisters making a face at her.

She was thirteen now and had been a Magical Girl for more than a year, member of the strongest group in the world.

Okay, her sisters had been around for three years now, but Kaede was getting there; she had lots of experience and was really, really strong.

To top it off, they had a day off today; the police ran riot control and no one attacked Japan for once. That was a wonderful thing to wake up to... but it only came a close second after her sister Miyuki's pancakes.

Speaking of, her big sisters were also there and seemed to do their homework. Or... well, Yukari was. Maybe she tried to be the responsible oldest sister again, even when neither Kaede nor Miyuki were actually diligent.

Not that it mattered much; all of them being together was enough, especially with everything going down in the rest of Asia. America was gone and Russia basically destroyed... and a lot of other countries over there, too. Kaede did not really remember all the names.

She knew that it was them that held Japan together, though. Eighty million people were under their protection.

Then the phone rung.

Three heads turned with black hair waving, and Yukari went to take the call. She talked quietly for a few moments, then put the machine down with a sigh. "Time to head out, there is trouble coming."

"What kind of trouble?"
"Code Black."

Kaede dropped her controller in surprise and Miyuki gave their oldest sister a disbelieving look. They all knew that Code Black meant only one thing. One thing that was really bad and she really did not want it to happen.

But Yukari nodded, determination written all over her face. "The bitch is coming here."

. . .
Line Break Recognised
. . .

It was weird, Kaede pondered while soaring through the air in her older sister's grasp. The White Reaper had not come to Japan before and now, in 2006, the war was almost over with how all those nations were gone... so why was she coming now?

Faintly, the thirteen-year-old realised how stiff her sister's grip was at the moment; it made sense to be a little scared with how dangerous they all knew this opponent was... but all her previous enemies had not been on their level. The Transcendent Trinity was powerful enough to make the difference.

And today, that dastardly monster would fall. She would punch it to pieces if Miyuki did not blast it first!

Right now though, her older sister's brown hair fell into Kaede's face and made it difficult to see anything; the rain did not help, either. But they were almost there, almost at the coast... their opponent was coming in from China, so they would not allow them to set a single foot onto their home.

Today would be a day to remember!

When the shoreline came into view, they could already see the bright light illuminating the dark clouds in the distance; a heavy feeling settled into Kaede's stomach and she knew that the White Reaper was there.

They all stood still under the premonition, hardly daring to breathe while every movement felt as if they were in slow motion; death was coming their way...

Then Yukari... no, Transcendent Will took a deep breath and slapped her cheeks, the dark blond hair sticking to her fingers for a moment.

Kaede followed her oldest sister's example and tried to get herself into position. She was Transcendent Strength, the strongest girl in the world. No one would get past her today.

And between them stood Transcendent Heart, who already moved to make their enemy pay for her very first mistake. It should be the last one, too.

To come in over the air was just an invitation to get shot down by the pink energy that gathered around the tip of Miyuki's staff, her white combat dress fluttering in the air current produced by gathering that much destructive power.

She aimed for a moment, then smirked and let loose. "Starlight Breaker!"

The ground cracked as her power surged forward, the sphere breaking and blasting into the sky in a bright light that cast away the shadows for miles. The clouds were scattered by its pure power and the rain stopped, as there was no longer water that could fall.

(Starlight Breaker: +300000 Base Damage, no dice = 300,000 Damage
Starlight Breaker: +300000 Base Damage, no dice = 300,000 Damage
Starlight Breaker: +300000 Base Damage, no dice = 300,000 Damage

900,000 Total Damage

Equilibrium: No Damage
Scion of Magic: 1,800,000 Total Damage

Equilibrium: No Damage)

But all it did was to show them their enemy; when the light died down, the bright white figure stared down at them without a single scratch. It was as if god herself had come down upon them, Kaede realised. A merciless goddess of slaughter that took up speed in a way she could not follow.

She tried to move, to do something, but she was so slow and their enemy so fast. Before any of them could act-

(The Equaliser: +3830224 Base Damage 3830 Disciplined, +1915 Superior Discipline, +28725 Superslayer, -25000 being careful, no dice = 9,470 Total Damage
Transcendent Heart: +600 Base Resilience, +8824 dice = 9,424 Total Damage Reduction Unstoppable

Transcendent Heart Health: 6,000 - 9,470 = -3,470)

-the monster descended from the heavens and brought down her waraxe on Heart, sending the sixteen-year-old flying.
""Miyuki!""

Transcendent Heart was thrown through the air with a crunch and before either of them could do anything... right in front of Kaede's disbelieving eyes, her big sister's transformation dissolved. Yukari was far faster than her, already blinking forward to catch the falling body.

But Kaede already knew... she could feel it deep in her heart.

Her big sister was gone.

Her vision blurred and the girl's knees gave in, feeling weaker than they ever did. The large gauntlets that were her arms and hands crushed the ground as she sat and stared.

"Miyuki? Miyuki?! Wake up, please!"
That was Yukari, holding onto their sister and calling out to her...
But then she looked up and her eyes widened. "Kaede!"

Huh?

Looking up, she found the Reaper standing above her, weapon raised and then hands on-

(The Equaliser: +3830224 Base Damage 17350 Disciplined, +8675 Superior Discipline, +130125 Superslayer, no dice = 148,150 Total Damage
Transcendent Will: +1500 Base Resilience, +3484 dice = 4,984 Total Damage Reduction Unstoppable

148,150 Total End Damage

Carry On (50%): 74,075 Total End Damage

74,075 Final End Damage
Transcendent Will Health: 11,500 - 74,075 = -62,575)

-her back that pushed her aside before the weapon connected, a sickly crunch followed by a splatter of gore over her back and side already telling her of what happened.

When Kaede managed to bring herself to look, Yukari was sprawled onto the ground a few metres away from her. Untransformed. Unmoving. And everything below her waist was gone.

Something within her broke.

And tears began to flow.
Her sisters were all she had... without them... without Yukari and Miyuki, what was there to live for?

Kaede turned when she heard a quiet splash, only to find herself face to face with the White Reaper again. This time, there was no one to save her... but she did not even want to.

It was not fair... first her parents, now her sisters... she had nothing now...

Transcendent Strength did not stand. She waited for the monster to raise that axe of hers, tears spilling from her eyes but never once obscuring her vision anymore. She would not sob; that one thing she would not give her, this person that took everything from her.

And then the Reaper stopped, her red eyes focussed on Kaede.
There was no warmth in them... but something else.

The hammer was a moment away from its strike, but that never came. Her courage began to waver as time passed and the rain started anew.

"W-What are you waiting for? K-Kill me!"

Her words had the other one narrow her eyes and Kaede got up to her knees, trying desperately not to break down. "Just do it, I don't want this life anymore! Let me be with my sisters again!"

Living without them... would be worthless.

But something in the monster's eyes changed. She lowered her weapon, never once breaking contact with Kaede's own gaze.

Then the White Reaper turned around, crouched and took off at high speed, leaving behind nothing but two corpses and a broken girl.

Kaede collapsed to the ground and screamed, her heart almost giving out as the adrenaline stopped pulsing through her veins.

She had lost everything.

And the sight of her assailant would be forever burnt into her memory.

I'm getting this impression that if Pris wasn't Bianca's little twin sisters the White Reaper would be the final boss...

On another topic, I think our intrepid group has about 10k EXP total remaining to earn in the remainder of the quest. I'd try to explain my reasoning but it's mostly a wild-ass guess :V

I'm expecting mission/event EXP to be the majority of our earnings and for only Pris to get those. So Incorporating others is probably a big negative from an EXP standpoint. It does improve our capabilities so it's best thought of as an odd capability boost, but do bear in mind that exponent scaling means it's always dragging from our biggest potential when EXP gets diverted.

So spending 1200 EXP on something is about a ninth of the remaining pool. And I'm a little peeved that:
Looking back, most of what we purchased was one-off shop items (1333+500+900+750) = (2733/3483), with the lesser part being actually leveling what we had (90+170+330+330+270+270+350) = (1460/1810). Actually, a rather typical pattern.
Because lots of the levels are exponential. Starving the exponential effects could leave us at, no exaggeration, one one-thousandth of our potential power.

My desire it to route out a spending agenda that is capable of dealing and surviving damage in the 100k range, preferably on the high end. At the moment, bringing Moon's Health to level 22+ and Sun's weapon to level 25 plus Overwhelm for Moon looks promising. Add on a spell or two for emergencies and Pris should be able to contribute to just about any combat.

I don't know, @kelllogo. Seems a bit too much.

Two most recent Supers aside, our current Pris damage potential is 35k on Sun melee, up to 100k with synchronization and now-replaced Radiance.

Our lethal spell damage is also at that level with Scorching Sunlight, with non-lethal at 80k.

Assuming Ludger accompanies Moon, her Overwhelm is superfluous. Probably. What's the third ability on her weapon, is it there already?

Sun's weapon at 25 has 2'017'287 magic modifier, and 3'768'885 expected damage. Moon's health at 22 is barely 1'927'593, so Sun runs a HUGE danger of dying to Smite.

I suggest we raise Scorching Sunlight a level or two instead, it is cheaper, applies to Sun AND Moon, and has a better scaling than either Scepter for damage.

At Scorching Sunlight 13 we have 163'840 snapshot cast, up to 163'840*2.5*2*1.4 = 1'146'880 for synch-radiance-ordnance blast.

At Veil of Lunar Goddess 18 we have 294'128 health - I support getting it. At 20 it has 752'966 health - I tentatively support it if we meet powerful enemies.

And to heal it promptly, Soothing Moonlight 13 will give 40'939 per beam, or 205-245k per dual cast.

Proposed spending agenda:

1) Veil 18 (480) - unconditionally yes
2) Veil 20 (370) - conditional on meeting enemy in battle with casual 100k damage potential. Upgraded DURING battle.
3) Scorching Sunlight up to 13, Baleful Eclipse up to 15 - same as 2, but as needed to one-shot.
4) Moonlight 13 (330) - if we purchase Veil 20
5) Veil 20+, Sunlight/Moonlight 15 - as necessary.

Naron is usually good at giving us warnings on meeting people out of our league that will kill us, BEFORE they can follow through with killing us.

So Veil 18 is our safety net, and damage/healing/health boosts after are conditional on our opposition.

I did some thinking about Celestial Ascension:

Don't even bother.

First, given the nature of quest voting, it's impossible to actually amass that much EXP. Expect it to get pulled into a Super a few times and leave you with a half-assed saving plan.

Second, given Pris' build at the time it would be actually impossible to survive some of these events without spending a goodly chunk of EXP. Those connections didn't come cheap.

Third, failing to grow in power should lead to Strength benching us or putting Pris on the backline as a healer. Right now the only justification, as I see it, for leading these missions is that Pris is expected to grow by insane leaps and bounds, if that stops manifesting when she's at the point where one of Nightmare Child's big zombies would reduce us to paste Kibo would be out of their minds to continue. So failing to spend EXP should lead to loss of opportunities to earn EXP.

(Actually, why is Pris leading missions again? There's a 'mature for ten-year-olds' comment from Strength and not much else before getting dropped in front of a particularly deadly team.)

From another angle. If CA actually is the most powerful item in the shop it should be so powerful that we wouldn't need anything else. The EXP shop would become a total non-issue, effectively removing it as an element. (After effectively removing the shop for months since no one was buying anything...) If you enjoy getting new shop items and trying to push a build to a nifty milestone you definitely don't want CA.

In my head I'm imagining an item that makes you invincible after defeating the boss rush in nightmare difficulty with only starter weapons and 1 HP. Yeah it makes you immune to damage, but if you could earn it you've proven you don't need it.

First. RSB was probably the last Super we'd get, too, on the twins. Beyond that, most else is bells and whistles - or straight levelups.

Second. Are you talking about past or future events? If it is about the past there is no point to complain on spending - it is done already. If the future? We'll take it as it comes.

Third. We were being sent out even before we were known as growing so rapidly. As volunteers on the first mission, as (probably) suggestion from Bianca on the second, and (definitely) as suggestion on Bianca on the third (current) one.

Also. You are exagerrating somewhat.

Those Zombies do 16000 damage - with 750+d465 resilience, 665+d465 intercept and 15000 negation, Moon is fine, and with d18348 on modifier save (0.6 is 10800) and 7300 post reduction, so is Sun. With Veil still on the menu and with Sun's expected saved value at 0.85 MM (15500 right now) we're looking at 20k-ish defense for both. And then there's Ludger and MOTT.

Certainly we are not the arny-killers by any measure, but that's probably what Supernova's third ability is. And in the world as it is, armies aren't expected anyway.

Just for people to know.
Sun Scepter 16 (150) - 29356 MM, 22-32k tankiness, 45-56k punch, 700 EXP to APT

Second, given Pris' build at the time it would be actually impossible to survive some of these events without spending a goodly chunk of EXP. Those connections didn't come cheap.
Um... I would have adjusted things if the players had been serious about saving up.

Nope.
The reason they even let you is because Bianca says she wants you to do it. Otherwise you would have been benched quite some time ago.

[X] Primordial Sun
[X] Primordial Moon
[X] World Eater
[X] Ludger

It is two really weird groups of four that gathers in the sealed-off main plaza. Strength's team looks really strong despite being made out of mostly small girls, a mixture of glory and creepiness. Yours, on the other hand... is three little girls and a corgi. The difference could not be more jarring if you tried.

Autumn is around, though she looks more apprehensive than you expected; her eyes dart from one corner to the next. Once you realise she is acting strange, you begin to notice Strength and Spring being tense as well.

And you find out the why rather soon; space amidst you tears open for but a moment, releasing a petite figure onto the plaza.

Her armour is a more pristine white than your own, but the similarities with both of your bodies are immediately obvious. It is the only thing you notice before it hits you, this feeling of insignificance in comparison to the Juggernaut before you.

Bianca told you about it before, the power of her presence. Yet, even though you know who she is and that she will never hurt you, just looking upon her makes you shiver. The feeling grows weaker in an instant, yet it already drilled itself into your mind.

The only ones actually surprised are Sky and Chi, both of which freeze up and make themselves as small as possible. Spiders skitter around and away from your big sister, whose red eyes carefully regard the large room. Only Nightmare Child is here to see you off, with everyone else already having said their goodbyes earlier. The Grim Reaper and White Reaper regard each other for a moment, then exchange quiet nods while Strength explains: "It was on short notice, but... she... will be our ride today."

There is no explanation offered and even though you are genuinely curious about the matter, you do not ask. Bianca is here and transformed, this ought to bring her into trouble if she stays for too long. Your big sister looks... tense, even more so than anyone else. Her gaze never rests and the hand on her weapon's handle is squeezing hard.

Tension within the room slowly fades while you all gather around Primeval Earth, her eyes going from one to the next. She does not comment on the group you chose and you can not bear meeting her gaze with how helpless you feel standing before her. Strength's expression is carefully void, lips pressed into a thin line.

"Absolute Movement."

Bianca's words are but a whisper, yet reality reforms around you in an instant. You are back on that world, at dawn. Your sister looks around for a moment, then casts her Spell again. You find yourself on an open plain. A few old huts stand huddled together some distance away and you can see a feral dog stalking around one of them, but it hides the moment you appear.

Strength looks around the place, taking in vibrant grass and fresh air before turning back to Bianca. "America?"
"Yes."

They both stare at each other for a moment, though Bianca averts her gaze first. "Take care. Absolute Movement."

You are gone before Strength can respond. Back on that other world however, your sister pauses and gives everyone left a short glance. "I'm... sorry I couldn't say anything before."

Her voice is gruff and dark still, though with a more gentle note now; you recognise the tone anyway, it being the same one she has whenever she gets really mad with something. Just... far less loud. In response... you do what you have long been thinking to do. It was on your mind day after day, a little plan for when you finally get to see her again. Despite of how scary she is and how this is earlier than expected... you gently shove Ana right into her arms.

The axe falls with a dull thud after Bianca drops it in surprise, but your adopted sister reluctantly wraps her arms around her waist just like you told her. Then you join, wrapping an arm each around Ana before enclosing Bianca as well. ""I missed you.""

After a moment of standing stiffly, your big sister relaxes and rest her arms around you; slender yet muscled, you can feel the strength in them and how gently Bianca actually is in this very moment. "I missed you, too. Welcome to the family, Anastasia."

"T-Thank you..."

You carefully rub Ana's back until the flood of feelings subsides somewhat. The embrace continues for quite a while, though; none of you really wants to let go. When you do, Bianca sighs quietly before rubbing her face. "I'm sorry to ask this of you, but we absolutely can not risk a fight breaking out here. Be careful and stay out of trouble as best as you can, yes?"

"""Okay~"""

The three of you chorus it this time, making the corners of her lips twitch. Bianca does not actually smile, but she looks a little bit better now. Then the expression falls away. "Gaia didn't tell me much about any of the people you will meet... just that Forsaken God is on par with Transcendent Strength and Nightmare Child. She is supposed to be amicable... but whatever you do, do not pick a fight with her."

You quietly exchange glances and feelings of unease at the news. After a few moments however, the one who answers is Ludger. He barks happily and gets on his hindlegs to lick Bianca's fingertips.

The tension fades as all of you have to giggle at the sight, though there is some amazement about him not being afraid in the slightest mixed in. Bianca takes another deep breath and scratches his head a few times. "There you go, Ludger. Be a good boy and look after the girls for me."

"Woof!"

She transports you while everyone is still smiling and leaves after one last hug, leaving you behind at the beginning of a forest in one direction and a large plain in the others. Each of you carries a pack with food, water and a few other things, but this is all you have with you. Ludger curiously runs around to sniff at plants while Ana and you huddle around the compass to find out where to go. Bianca mentioned that you would land a few kilometres away from the main city Forsaken God lives in.

You have some time to think about what to do, too.

Yeah I got nothing more to say on this one. Standard diplo procedure go!

Good idea overall. Had Ana been flight-capable in human form, I would have advocated low altitude flight along the road, though.

Harmonious Incorporation of Brave Heart if anyone is wondering.

No, I do not think this a good idea.

About RSU. It is both more and less convenient in terms of defense. It is better in terms of attack damage.

Ally boost. @Naron, does that +183 damage apply to ANY attack including spells?

Um... I would have adjusted things if the players had been serious about saving up.
I honestly cannot tell if you are serious and simply have different standards for "intends to save up"... Because your most prominent adjustment bumped UP the cost of both previously unpurchased Supers and lowered the power of level-able items (survivability of twins).

I do not think either of those made "Save EXP" options more lucrative. I know I was put into panic mode by that.

And prior to that, we've spent only some 2.5k EXP including Harmonious Incorporation that already paid for itself.

Moving on.

OK.

For those interested, the boost goes:

You constantly spent the EXP you had, before and after the changes.

That aside, 'adjusting' was not meant in regard to any EXP-cost.

I'm liking LightLan's plan (Which seems to be a theme). Since we don't need to look for them Pris should avoid having Ana's caterpillar form approach Forsaken God's home. I'm betting they'll know we're from Kibo right off the bat once they notice the language implants.

I'm interested in adopting Julia, she could use some more sisters :V.

...And I was not expecting World Eater to get that meeting EXP.

No, I do not think this a good idea.
I actually think it is. As you said, the last one already paid for itself, so that's not a concern. On the RP side, it wouldn't be an option if she wasn't interested in/fine with it.

I didn't guess unreal strength, but I was right about it not being crush (yet).

Sadly, Tiny Juggernaut will never be worth it. :(

Unlike most abilities, it has no flexibility benefit besides the number increase, and all it does is multiply our base damage by 1.5 in intercepts (1.5 relative to our existing unreal strength, that is). Leveling the scepter multiplies base damage by 1.6 in all cases, and also goes toward APT, abilities, and magic modifier.

Wait, maybe it applies twice in intercepts? I don't really want to check right now, but that would at least make it worth closer to 2 scepter levels... (which means it could be worthwhile sometime after level ~23 scepter instead of level ~45)

Which is really sad cause it seems kinda interesting.

Since this is an upgrade of Radiance, does this include the ability to use the old defensive effect of Radiance? Like how Nepgear's Supremacy Zone only explicitly states that she can auto-Intercept attacks on herself or allies while airborne, but still lets her Intercept attacks aimed at allies (but not ones aimed at herself) even when not airborne due to its prereq (Covering Fire) allowing her to do so.

Hmm. I don't know but I doubt it. As written, she now has this effect permanently, but ONLY when she is standing/hovering above the enemy.

It changed from once-per-turn to Anti-Anti-Air defense, and added a "boost yer army damage" effect.

I'd say it serves as a clear counterpart to MOTT, with Sun and Moon potentially serving as immensely potent army enhancers. But, it leaves Sun with only her magic for active offense, as her going whack on someone personally is likely to disable her ally boost.

I don't think so. It reminds me more of Brilliant Key's upgrade for lvl 100 auto rhythm.
